Chapter 1: A Living Soul?

In the white, elegant hall, numerous celebrities and artists were gathered to bid farewell to the famous director Chu Xiaxing. Dressed in formal clothes, they took turns lining up to the mourning hall to complete the ceremony, shaking hands with the relatives in grief.

As Chu Xiaxing did not have a husband or children, the funeral was organized by her niece Han Chuning. Han Chuning was 24 years old this year. At the moment, she was full of grief, wearing gloomy expressions. Although Chu Xiaxing was her aunt in name, she was no less than a godmother to her emotionally. Of course, she would be in shock.

Han Chuning tried hard to meet everyone who had come to mourn. Chu Xiaxing had a high reputation in the entertainment circle, so there was a long line of attendees.

“If it wasn’t for Director Chu promoting me, I don’t know where I’d be now. She is definitely a great director who is not inferior to men…” The man’s eyes turned red when he said that. He suddenly cried out, “Director, Xiao Wang has come to see you.”

Han Chuning looked at the man crying on the ground. Suddenly, she was a little at a loss, finally weeping in silence. When everyone saw this, they didn’t know how to cheer her up. The man who sat on the ground crying had worked with Chu Xiaxing for many years. Outsiders only thought that he had deep feelings for Director Chu.

“Drop it already. I don’t remember you telling me that I am better than a man when I promoted you.” Chu Xiaxing lazily drifted past Xiao Wang, who was crying bitterly. She felt that the other party’s cries were really irritating, so she floated back. She couldn’t help but mutter, “You actually came down here to meet me but created such a drama for yourself…”

Chu Xiaxing was a soul now. She was patrolling the sky above her funeral, and it was quite disturbing to hear the crying below.

She did not feel grief over her own death. More than sixty years of hardships of a journey had added to her experience. By her age, she had seen many things, and a funeral was just a play in the final analysis.

She wandered in the mourning hall for a while, then got bored. She wanted to drift away with the wind. The sincere tears of relatives and friends made her feel blocked, and the hypocritical performance of the passers-by irritated her. She just wanted to blow the heads of these people.

As she had worked in Vanity Fair all her life, even at her farewell funeral, this habit of acting was not reduced by even half. She broke up with her former friends for profit and reconciled with rival alliances. Now, everyone seemed to have forgotten the past love and hatred entanglements and gathered here to mourn her, true or false.

Chu Xiaxing was loved and hated by others, but after her death, she became a goddess because of her achievements. She became a perfect person in film history.

" "

She was too lazy to listen to the audience praising her achievements at the funeral. She simply floated out leisurely, flying to the sky freely without even looking back.

She felt that it was pretty interesting to be a wandering soul. She also saw a lot of ghosts who had just passed away. They were floating in the sky together, waiting for the first seven days to return home. It was said that after the first seven days, they would disappear naturally.

“Why is it different from the rest of us?” Chu Xiaxing looked at the blueish soul beside her that looked like a Milky Way. She discovered that there was a light blue unknown creature in it. Naturally, she was quite curious. She had always been fearless and frank in her speech. Even if she did not know the spirits around her, she dared to open her mouth to ask questions.

“Ah, it’s a living soul. I guess it was accidentally mixed in…” the soul next to her actually responded.

“A living soul?”

“Yes, the body is not dead, but the soul is accidentally detached. If it does not return in time, it will lose his life.”

Chu Xiaxing was quite surprised and exclaimed, “You seem to know a lot? What did you do in your life?”

The soul who answered was embarrassed and said, “I just know some trifling things.”

When Chu Xiaxing heard the other party’s claim, she had an idea. It turned out that the soul was a monk before he died. She casually joked, “Then you really only know a little bit. Otherwise, you wouldn’t get mixed in our group.”

Chu Xiaxing: “Don’t all of you who engage in metaphysics be immortal?”

The Taoist priest spirit said helplessly, “Beyond life and death is the spiritual cultivation. I’ll naturally experience birth, aging, sickness, and death…”

Chu Xiaxing: “How long can the soul be separated from the body?”

Taoist soul: “Ordinary people can last at most two hours. Any more will be dangerous.”

Chu Xiaxing was stunned when she heard the words. She immediately leaned over, floated down to the soul, and said in a hurry, “Then, why not drive it out? Are you going to let it follow us to death!?”

Taoist soul: “Oh my, most of these spirits are unstable. It might think you are poking your nose in its affairs.”

The soul of an ordinary person usually did not separate from the body. The living soul of the separated body was more or less problematic; it might have been seeking death for a long time.

When the Taoist’s soul voice fell, Chu Xiaxing had floated far away. Her authoritative voice returned with the wind, “I don’t want what it thinks; I want I think!”

As a former director, Chu Xiaxing had a strong desire for control. She gave orders to her crew, meant what she said, and couldn’t wait to dispatch everyone around. She had taken care of her niece, Han Chuning, since she was a child, not to mention the other subordinates that she met at work were all manipulated by her.

Chu Xiaxing was not afraid to be scolded at all. If she thought something was wrong, she would bring out the facts and reasons clearly to the other party. Hence, she went straight to the living soul.

In the golden white Milky Way where the souls converged, a faint pale blue soul was looming.

In the sky, countless souls were dancing, just like a mysterious and magnificent painting and also like a fantastic dream.

The blue soul was crying and had no intention to leave. It said that it couldn’t live any longer. It was better to die. Chu Xiaxing had always been vigorous and resolute. She first beat the blue soul and then painstakingly persuaded it for a long time. She poured a lot of life chicken soup in it. Finally, she tried to dissuade the soul who was clamoring for suicide.

Unfortunately, although the blue soul gave up the idea of death, it had spent a long time wandering and did not know how to return to its body.

“This is probably God’s will. Although I can’t find a way back home, there are still people willing to persuade me to live before I am completely gone. I am already satisfied…”

“I’m sorry, I’m not a human, either. I’m just a soul.” Chu Xiaxing looked at the blue soul, which was getting dimmer. She could not help but say, “Wait, there must be a way. Where is that Taoist Soul just now?”

The Taoist Soul drifted down and said helplessly, “It’s useless. It needs a living person to call it by its name to find its way home. We are all dead souls, and there is no way to help it.”

“No one will call my name. My mother is gone, and I don’t have a home anymore.” The blue soul said in a low tone, “That’s it. I was scared of pain when I cut my wrist. It would be nice to disappear in this way…”

Chu Xiaxing watched the soul fade away in the wind and gradually dissipate. Although she had become a dead soul, witnessing the living soul’s disappearance, she felt quite uncomfortable in her heart. She simply asked: “Girl, what is your name?”

When Chu Xiaxing persuaded the soul, she had heard some things from the other party. She always felt that the soul was a young girl. Despite not feeling touched at her own funeral, she couldn’t bear to watch the fall of a young child.

“My name is Chu Xiaxin.”
