Chapter 6: I Thought You Were Better Than Me As A Director! (2)

The director was the organizer and commander of the crew. He needed to coordinate and dispatch the work of various departments. If the director was a fool with no idea, then the crew would run on the wrong path. Once it got going, it couldn’t be stopped.

Cao Yangang and the group of actors ran a lap again, but Director Wang was still not satisfied with the scene. He said thoughtfully, “I think we should take another one…”

As soon as Director Wang’s voice fell, the grievances of the crew almost reached their peak. Although no one dared to complain, they were obviously quite impatient. The staff was already working very hard in the high temperature, and now they couldn’t finish a scene after a long time. They naturally felt depressed.

Facing everyone’s heated gaze, Cao Yangang felt uneasy. No one would blame Director Wang for his erratic behavior. Instead, they would think that Cao Yangang’s acting skills were not good.

After all, Chu Xiaxing would get a pass for her every take, but Cao Yangang struggled every time. Besides, the hot weather wasn’t doing him any favor. In fact, Cao Yangang really couldn’t be blamed for this matter. Chu Xiaxing had her own skills and didn’t need Director Wang’s guidance at all.

Chu Xiaxing originally didn’t want to be nosy. However, when she saw Cao Yangang about to become a public enemy of the crew, she couldn’t bear it. She frowned and said, “The one just now is fine.”

Suddenly hearing Chu Xiaxing’s voice, Director Wang was shocked. He turned his head to see her leaning over to the monitor and said in surprise, “When did you come here!?”

Chu Xiaxing ignored Director Wang. She glanced at the record slip in the script holder’s hand and asked while pointing with her finger, “What kind of scene is this?”

Production notes were used to record the number of sets, fields, mirrors, and strips so as to indicate the shooting content and time code. The production notes would record the number of pieces that the director was satisfied with, which would then be handed over to the editor to guide the later editing.

When the script holder saw Chu Xiaxing, he was also surprised, but he responded honestly and described the scene that had just passed.

After Chu Xiaxing heard it, she looked at the thick production note and said lightly, “That’s enough. No need to take another shot. There were so many materials in the later period.”

Director Wang had no idea, so he naturally had to shoot all kinds of scenes, which made the progress of the crew surprisingly slow. As a matter of fact, experienced directors knew which scene could be used for editing. In the early years, the fault tolerance rate of film shooting was extremely low. If the shoot was like what Director Wang did, he would be killed. After all, filming meant spending money!

When Chu Xiaxing took a few extra shots back then, the producers would complain. She naturally couldn’t understand Director Wang’s approach. Even with the current technological advancement, digital shooting was not used for repetitive work.[CHIHIPEPH.COM]

Everyone’s eyes brightened when they heard that “No need to shoot anymore.” Director Wang looked at Chu Xiaxing, who suddenly spoke up, and his face was a bit unsatisfied. He said, “Hey, who said it’s done? I still have scenes to shoot…”

Hearing his nonsense, Chu Xiaxing’s face turned cold. She frowned and asked, “What scene is still missing? Is it that you want a drone to fly around?”

The budget of “You Who in The Distant Heart” was not high, and there was no UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle/drone) available for the crew. Chu Xiaxing’s words were obviously insinuating. The script holder uncontrollably let out a laugh. He then quickly covered his mouth, restrained his smile, and looked uneasily at Director Wang’s face for fear of being hated by the other party.

Director Wang rebuked, “I’m the director. I have calculations…”

Chu Xiaxing thought to herself, You have calculations, my ass. On the surface, though, she looked calm and said plausibly, “Okay, then let’s talk some sense. What scenes are still missing? What scenes are not covered?”

Two days ago, Chu Xiaxing was too lazy to talk to him, but it didn’t mean she could be casually fooled by him. When she was a director back then, he was still playing with mud!

Director Wang’s face suddenly turned ugly because of anger. There was no lack of scenery in this scene. Most likely, a better shot would mean filming it with a drone. Chu Xiaxing’s words were not wrong, but he just couldn’t tolerate being confronted by the little girl in public. The rest of the crew would see him as a joke.

When Cao Yangang saw the situation, he could hardly understand the atmosphere and intervened, “Director Wang, let’s shoot another one. She’s just joking with you…”

Once others started jumping in, Director Wang swished his sleeves and simply walked away. He barked, “Shoot what again! Change the scene!”

The long and tormented filming finally came to an end temporarily. The crew could take a breather, but assistant Li Jing was shocked by what Chu Xiaxing had just said and done.

" "

Li Jing said carefully, “Sis, did you insult the director just now?”

Chu Xia Xing had gone to the place with shade to drink water, she was not afraid of the director’s distant glare, and said in a calm way: “Didn’t you can’t get used to him?”

Li Jing said in panic: “…But I don’t dare to insult directly.”

Chu Xiaxing was under a shade to drink water. She was not afraid of the director’s distant glare and said calmly, “Weren’t you getting fed up with him?”

Li Jing said in a panic, “…But I don’t dare to insult directly.”

Producer Xia Hong was not on the set now, so Director Wang was the top leader of the crew. If you offended him, it was no good.

Cao Yangang was also scared. He hurried to Chu Xiaxing’s side and said in an advising voice, “You, come with me and apologize to Director Wang. You will get an underhanded punishment if it goes on like this…”

Cao Yangang knew that Chu Xiaxing had stood up for him, but she was full of hostility. She had become an eyesore for Director Wang.

Chu Xiaxing sneered. “He deserves it?”

If it was in the past, she would be too lazy to talk to people like Director Wang. Any more words would be a waste.

Cao Yangang saw her fearless attitude. He was shocked after hearing her words and said weakly, “…Ain’t you be a little too bold like this?”

At first, Chu Xiaxing still remembered her promise of not fighting. But when she heard that she had to apologize to Director Wang, she immediately recovered her former violent temper. She said confidently, “Why won’t I dare? I’ve been daring for a lifetime!”

Cao Yangang: “…” Where does this ‘for a lifetime’ come from?

Chu Xiaxing had never been a humble and respectful character. If she could really swallow her anger and be polite, she would never be able to get ahead in the directing circle in her whole life. Without a backbone, she would have been trampled on.

“Anyone in the crew who wastes time is wrong. It’s already good enough I didn’t make him apologize to me, yet you want me to go over there to apologize? Don’t even think about it!” Chu Xiaxing rejected Cao Yangang. She was amiable to Han Chuning and other children, but there were some bottom lines in work that couldn’t be compromised.

Cao Yangang really had no choice. He could only apologize on behalf of Chu Xiaxing; however, Director Wang’s anger didn’t seem to be reduced.

When the shooting resumed, Chu Xiaxing was really hated by Director Wang. She was constantly being told to stop when she acted. She had to go back and forth four or five times. Chu Xiaxing didn’t want to delay others at the beginning, so she bit the bullet and pushed forward. However, Director Wang’s idea of revenge was so obvious that the atmosphere of the film set was tense!

Cao Yangang was caught in the middle. He tried many times to ease the tension between them, but all his efforts were futile.

When Chu Xiaxing saw this, she didn’t even have the intention to act again. She simply put away the emotions of the character she was playing, looked directly at Director Wang, who was in front of the monitor, and said calmly, “Then, why don’t you talk about how to act in this scene?”

Director Wang misunderstood that she knew her mistake and had bowed her head. He immediately ridiculed her, “Now you remember me. Didn’t you know how to do it just before? Why can’t you act now? I thought you were better than me as a director!”

Chu Xiaxing had never been scolded on her face by someone for many years. When she heard the words, she was not annoyed. Instead, she said with a smile, “I haven’t made a rubbish drama before. Naturally, I don’t know how to act in it. Of course, I have to ask the experienced one.”

When everyone heard this, they immediately took a breath of shock. Even Director Wang was flushed with anger. No one expected her to speak so rudely!

Director Wang was furious. He stood up abruptly and started insulting her, “What high-sounding sentiments! Do you think that you are Xu Xiancheng and can shoot “Man Ran” at a young age? Or do you really think of yourself as Chu Xiaxing? Could it be that you think you shot “Blood Sky”!?”

Xu Xiancheng and Chu Xiaxing were both young and famous directors, and their follow-up works were as stable as ever. They almost never did any sloppy job and already had a divine status in China.

At this time, Director Wang mentioned two famous directors to ridicule Chu Xiaxing for not knowing how high the sky was and how thick the earth was. He mistakenly regarded “Xin” as “Xing”!

Chu Xiaxing was taken aback when she heard the words. She then said frankly, “Yes, that’s what I think.”

She was indeed the one who shot “Blood Sky.” There was nothing wrong with that.

The other party actually dared to answer and even compared herself to the two famous directors. Director Wang was stunned by her shamelessness. For a while, he couldn’t respond: “…”

Director Wang: You dare to say yes. You really are shameless!
