Bowen felt that he could easily finish his second mission. Moreover, it had to be accomplished tonight. The Herald's task can wait. When Bowen questioned why the beginner's gift had not been given to him for free just like other Mcs in novels and mangas, the system shut his mouth by telling him that their company does not encourage free gifts and all employees are rewarded based on their performance.
Soon, the full moon spread her glory throughout the pitch-black sky, and every living creature was put to sleep. Bowen was licking his lips not because of birthday sweets but because he was anticipating the rewards he would get the next morning. All he had to do was wait for the peaceful night to pass.
"Bang…aaaaahhhhhhhh….. " Felina’s sleep was put to an end due to the rising uproar outside their hut. The mother and son couple ran outside only to find many villagers gathering and running outside. "There… There …mountain Boar", shouted someone. Blending with darkness, there stood a huge pig-like animal, five times bigger than what Bowen had seen on wild life television programs when he was back on earth. Many armature warriors of the village started their attempt to chase away the unwanted guest. Some ran; some bravely confronted the pig with any weapon they could access. The pig suddenly went to rage and started attacking the people gathered by the commotion. Felina saw the boar hasting towards Jago, who stood unmoving due to shock. "JAGOOO..RUNNN", shouted Felina. Startled Jago ran to his side, slightly missing the boar by an inch. Enraged by the missing prey, the boar fixed Felina and Bowen as its next target.
"s**t I really should have doubted the system missions when they seemed easy as pie", frustrated Bowen shouted internally. He immediately went for the rusted fire poker that lay on the pile of scrapes, and it was the best weapon he could grab at that moment. He pushed Felina and ran towards the animal. One huge monster against a short, fragile child. It looked like an ant going for an elephant. Felina shouted.. "aaahhhh bowennn nooooo…...." Bowen could only place his hope in the fencing techniques he had learned as a hobby in his previous life.
Bowen slightly missed the head-on collision and stuck the bear with the iron on its side. The poker just bounced when it touched the hard animal skin. Bowen was thrown three meters away by a single hit from the animal. His head hit hard on the ground. Blood dripped from his head and mouth. The boar still doesn’t want to leave until it had killed its prey. Bowen was lying on his back from the previous impact. The pig rushed to impale him to the ground with its thick, sharp tusks, which gave Bowen the opportunity to stab one of its eyes with the sharp iron stick when it came closer. The animal let out a loud roar and groveled in pain. It also missed Bowen, who somehow managed to establish a considerable distance from the animal and started running towards the opposite side. The pig started to chase the person who hurt it, furious as ever. The distance between Bowen and the boar decreased considerably. At the end of the day, Bowen was still a severely injured little kid, and the animal soon caught up with him.
"Ah, my life here is going to end even before I complete a single mission," he thought. He was satisfied that he could save his mother. It doesn’t matter if he died; he can reincarnate into a new world with a new set of missions or go to hell for the punishment; he wouldn’t really care. Still, his instincts urged him do everything to avoid the pain of death for a second time. Just as the pig was about to land a forceful hit, a dazzling, warm fire landed on its head. Second one, third one... multiple fireballs landed and soaked the whole animal, which started to get roasted alive. The fires tactfully avoided Bowen and only hit the animal.
Bowen noticed two people in the distance. One man and a young girl who were not a part the village. The man in his thirties held something like a wand and murmured unknown words that seemed to be spells for the fireball. Soon the boar lost all its vitality, and its burning corpse fell to the ground. Peace returned to the village. The fight with the boar was short, and all of it happened in a matter of minutes before adults could react. Felina and Jago ran with wet eyes to ensure that Bowen was safe. Felina felt so guilty looking at her injured child. She wished to replace herself in the place of Bowen, even if it caused her death. Jago stood there crying for his best friend.
"Woman, your child is not in a critical condition. He is such a brave child for protecting his mother." The man who killed the boar spoke to Felina.
"Sir, you are…..? Felina uttered looking at the unknown man.
"Oh, I'm a ranker," he said.
