Kakashi Hatake wakes up in the soft morning light filtering through his bedroom window. He stretches his limbs, feeling the satisfying pop of his joints as he works out the stiffness from a night of rest. Cracking his neck with a practiced ease, he sits up and swings his legs over the side of the bed.

With purposeful strides, Kakashi heads to the kitchen. The enticing aroma of sizzling bacon and brewing coffee fills the air as he expertly prepares his breakfast. The clatter of utensils against pans echoes through the quiet apartment. He flips the eggs with a swift flick of his wrist, a testament to his ninja reflexes.

Sitting down to eat, Kakashi savors each bite of his meal. The rhythmic ticking of the clock on the wall provides a steady background beat to his solitary morning routine. With efficiency, he cleans the dishes, leaving the kitchen spotless.

A light shower refreshes him, water droplets cascading down his lithe frame. He towels off quickly, not wasting a moment. Kakashi picks up his attire for the day: a long-sleeved anchor-grey shirt with a zipper running down the front, a green scarf wrapped snugly around his neck, and slate-colored shorts that allow for freedom of movement. His feet slip into blue sandals, completing the ensemble.

The familiar weight of his mask settles over his face, obscuring his features from the world. Kakashi gazes at himself in the mirror, a silent acknowledgment of the ninja he has become. Alone in his apartment, he adjusts the hitai-ate headband on his forehead, a symbol of his village loyalty.

Despite the solitude, Kakashi moves through the routine with the ease of someone accustomed to such a lifestyle. The sun slowly rises from the horizon, casting long shadows on the buildings.

The crunch of gravel underfoot announces Kakashi's arrival at the training grounds. Minato-sensei and Rin are already present and engaged in conversation. Minato smiles warmly and waves him over.

"Kakashi, good to see you. We've got a lot to cover today," Minato says, gesturing to an open space for training.

Kakashi nods in acknowledgment, his eyes are focused and alert. "I'm ready, sensei."

Rin, however, wears a worried expression as she speaks up. "Sensei, it's been the third day in a row that Obito hasn't shown up. I'm getting really concerned."

Minato's expression softens, and he places a reassuring hand on Rin's shoulder. "Rin, I understand your concern. I spoke with Obito's grandma yesterday. It seems he's come down with something really nasty. She's taking care of him, so there's nothing to worry about. Obito just needs some time to recover."

Rin relaxes slightly at Minato's words, but concern still lingers in her eyes. "I hope he gets better soon."

Minato nods in agreement. "We'll manage for now. Kakashi, let's focus on our training today and give Obito the time he needs to recover."

Kakashi gives a silent nod, understanding the importance of prioritizing their teammate's well-being. The trio then shifts their attention back to the training grounds, ready to make the most of the day despite the absence of their comrade.

But Kakashi... doesn’t really care about Obito being sick. He is an objective person. If the other is sick, then he just needs to recover, and when he does, then that’s good.

"The Senjutsu Tree's special effects are about to expire. I want you Rin to make the most of it while you can. Practice with the tree, and harness its disadvantages to improve your skills. As a medical-nin, it should help you with your Chakra control." Minato’s words elicit a spirited response from Rin.

“Yes, Sensei!”

As Rin readies herself for practice with the Senjutsu Tree, Minato beckons Kakashi aside. They move a short distance away from the training area, engaging in a hushed conversation.

"Kakashi, I need you to focus on something important," Minato begins, his tone serious.

Kakashi raises an eyebrow, curious. "What's going on, sensei?"

Minato sighs before responding. "It's about you being a Chunin already. The Chunin Exams are approaching, and Obito and Rin are aiming to advance. For them to succeed, you need to be cautious in your actions. There will be overseers during the exams, and if you intervene too much as a member of Team Minato, it could influence the results for Obito and Rin negatively. I am just saying, give them a chance to shine for this exam!"

Kakashi scowls, crossing his arms. "Why don't I just not participate then? I'm already a Chunin."

Minato shakes his head. "It doesn't work that way. The Chunin Exams are designed for three-member teams. You're getting extra consideration because of your abilities, but it's crucial for Obito and Rin's advancement.  Teamwork is a major criterion, and your involvement is necessary. It is not like they can just find a third person…"

Kakashi grimaces, his frustration evident. "Being a babysitter wasn't part of being a Chunin. I'm here to train and improve myself. This is the Training Grounds, isn’t it?"

Minato chuckles lightly. "I know, Kakashi. But this is part of the responsibility that comes with being a Jonin,” The way he says ‘Jonin’ suggests a hidden meaning. “You're not just here for yourself; you're here for your team. It's a chance for them to grow, and you're a key part of that process."

"Moreover," Minato grins slyly, "Think of it like this. If Obito and Rin raise their rank, then we'll be able to get higher difficult tier missions. Even a Rank A mission won't be too far from our reach!

Kakashi rolls his eyes, but he nods begrudgingly. Deep down, he understands the weight of his role, even if it means putting up with what he considers babysitting. Still, the term ‘Jonin’ does catch his interest.

The upcoming Chunin Exams are about more than personal achievements; they're about the cohesion and success of Team Minato. Every new Genin Team operates according to these principles. That’s why it is led by a Jonin leading a group of Genins. Jonins after all more than their combat prowess, also possess excellent leadership and observation abilities.

Minato leans in, his voice low and serious. "Kakashi, HQ is considering removing your Chunin qualifications if we don't see satisfactory results in terms of teamwork during the Chunin Exams."

Kakashi's eyes narrow slightly, a rare crack in his usually stoic demeanor. "Removing my Chunin status? That's a bit extreme, don't you think?"

Minato smirks, his eyes glinting with sly amusement. "Well, here's the interesting part. If you show exceptional leadership and teamwork during the exams, they might reconsider you for Jonin rank qualifications."

Kakashi's eyebrow quirks in surprise. "Jonin? That would make me the youngest Jonin ever if it happens."

Minato nods. "Exactly. It's a rare opportunity, Kakashi-san. HQ is giving you a chance to prove yourself not just as a skilled ninja but as a leader. If you shine in the Chunin Exams, Jonin status might be within your reach."

Despite the gravity of the situation, Kakashi can't help but mutter childishly, "This is too much of a drag."

Minato chuckles. "Well, sometimes, the path to greatness isn't the easiest one. Embrace the challenge, Kakashi. It's an opportunity that doesn't come around often."

Kakashi exhales, his demeanor shifting back to a more composed state. "I'll do what needs to be done, sensei. Jonin or not, I won't let my team down."

Minato nods approvingly. "That's the spirit, Kakashi. Let's make this Chunin Exam a turning point for you."

“Yes,” Kakashi adds. “I won’t let my team down as long as it is for the sake of the mission.”

“…”

Minato is momentarily speechless. He has always known that Kakashi is not the flexible kind. “Sigh… yes, yes… as long as you understand what the HQ wants…” But truthfully, Minato hopes that what Kakashi understands is ‘Minato’s intentions’ instead.

As Kakashi contemplates the weight of his responsibilities, a realization dawns upon him. "So, the Chunin Exam isn't just about promoting more Chunin. It's a test for me," he states with a mix of curiosity and understanding.

Minato nods solemnly, confirming Kakashi's deduction. "Yes, Kakashi-san. The higher-ups want to evaluate your leadership and teamwork abilities. You're in a unique and sensitive situation, especially given your lineage."

Kakashi furrows his brow, seeking clarification. "What do you mean?"

Minato sighs, choosing his words carefully. "You're the son of Sakumo Hatake, a highly skilled but controversial ninja. The stories surrounding his actions and subsequent disgrace are still fresh in people's minds. Having you in the limelight, especially if you don't perform well, wouldn't be good for Konoha's image. By 'perform', I don't mean your abilities from ninjutsu, taijutsu, etc."

Kakashi's expression remains unreadable, though a flicker of concern crosses his face. "So, this is about protecting the village's reputation, not just testing my abilities. I understand. It really is a mission."

Minato nods again. "Exactly. The higher-ups are cautious, and they see the Chunin Exams as a way to gauge not just your skills, but how well you can handle the spotlight. If you excel, it's a win for you and for Konoha. If not, then you drop a rank."

Kakashi absorbs the information, his mind racing with the implications. "I see. So, I need to not only prove myself but prove it in a way that will showcase my leadership more than just my abilities."

"I accept the mission," Kakashi declares, his voice steady and determined. "I'll lead my teammates in the Chunin Exams, and I'll make sure they showcase their best qualities."

Minato's lips curve into a wry smile at Kakashi's choice of words. "It's not exactly a mission, Kakashi. Consider it more of advice for your career. How you handle the Chunin Exams will play a significant role in shaping your path as a ninja."

Kakashi nods, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I get it, sensei. I won't take it lightly. I'll do what needs to be done."

Minato places a hand on Kakashi's shoulder. "I have confidence in you, Kakashi. Lead your team well, and make the most of this opportunity. It's not just about the exams; it's about building the foundation for your future as a ninja."

After the session of training, Kakashi and Rin walk home together. They both seem equally tired, and Rin can't help but express her curiosity.

Rin stretches her arms, feeling their ache, as she recalls Kakashi's rather intense sessions with Minato-sensei. "You know, Kakashi, what's it like? Being so capable and all. Your training sessions with Minato-sensei seem intense."

Kakashi looks at her and replies, "Don't envy or pity me, Rin. I asked for this kind of training from Minato-sensei."

Rin laughs lightly as they continue walking. "Envy or pity? No, Kakashi-san, it's neither. It's a genuine concern from your teammate. Pity and envy are for hypocrites. I genuinely care about you."

"You are surprisingly outspoken today," Kakashi raises an eyebrow, prompting Rin to explain. Rin shakes her head, grinning, "Yeah. I am usually timid, but for the past three years, I have seen what you can and cannot do. I see the hard work you put in, and I just want to make sure you're okay. You push yourself so much."

Smirking, Kakashi responds, "I can handle it."

Because Kakashi is wearing a mask, Rin cannot see him smirking, but somehow she can tell.

Smiling for some reason, Rin says, "I know you can, Kakashi-san. You can handle it. I believe in you. But it's okay to take it easy sometimes. You don't always have to be the toughest one."

Kakashi nods and adds, "I appreciate the concern, Rin-san. But I have my reasons for doing things this way."

Rin raises an eyebrow, asking, "Reasons?"

Kakashi looks ahead and explains, "Yeah. I have goals, and this is the path I chose to reach them."

Smirking, Rin says, "Well, just don't push yourself too hard, okay? We're a team, and we're here for each other. Though me and Obito might not be as capable as you, if there is a kunai that you cannot parry or dodge, we’ll catch them for you."

Kakashi grows silent… and comments, "You are kind in a strange way, just like Minato-sensei. But please don't catch any kunai for me. I don't mind Obito doing it though... he can rot and die for all I care."

Laughing, Rin responds, "Maybe I've picked up some wisdom from Minato-sensei. But seriously, take care of yourself, Kakashi-san. We're not just teammates; we're friends... and I will forget you dissing Obito just now, so you better listen."

Kakashi nods and says, "I hear you, Rin-san."

“And as I said... I hope you listen,” Rin emphasizes stubbornly.
