As time slipped away unnoticed, the first snowfall of winter arrived, marking the beginning of the joint trial against figures such as the Ning family, Long Ruifeng, Prince An Xei, and others.

Today was a rare day when Qiao Zhiya did not go to the laboratory. Instead, he nestled on the sofa with Chu Yan and Gu Yan’an, waiting for the trial to begin.

“Maybe watching this isn’t suitable for the baby…” Qiao Zhiya expressed concern as he placed the steaming hot snacks on the coffee table using a heat-insulated tray.

“It’s okay, the baby is asleep and can’t hear anything,” Gu Yan’an reassured, leaning comfortably against the cushion arranged by Chu Yan. She smiled and reached out to gently pat Chu Yan’s head, silently thanking him.

Feeling a bit embarrassed by her touch, Chu Yan, who had gradually regained his vitality, stretched out his long legs, grabbed a cushion, and slumped onto the sofa, adopting a posture as if he were about to watch a movie with popcorn.

Seeing everyone so relaxed, Qiao Zhiya set aside his worries about the little baby and sat down as well.

At 1 PM, the trial started on time. The screen flickered on.

Qiao Zhiya quickly located Chu Huai, representing the Federation, and An Tyn, representing the Empire, at the plaintiff’s table. Then, he scanned the room and found Chu Rong’s figure sitting in the back among the spectators.

“I didn’t expect An Tyn would come here in person. Right– now we should refer to him as Emperor.” Chu Yan muttered, stuffing a snack into his mouth.

Qiao Zhiya heard his commentary. He turned his attention back to An Tyn, his mind was slightly distracted.

Just one year had passed, yet An Tyn had completely transformed. He had grown significantly taller, his features had sharpened, and he had matured into a composed young man, no longer resembling his youthful self but rather exuding a sense of maturity.

With these thoughts in mind, he turned his head to look at Chu Yan beside him. His gaze lingered on the mature features that Chu Yan shared with Chu Rong, and he compared their significant height difference to his own unchanged slender arms and legs. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia.

In a flash, everyone around him had grown from simple teenagers into full-fledged young adults.

It’s been two years… No, it’s been two and a half years. He’s been in the world for two and a half years without even realizing it.

He then looked up at the screen displaying the trial scene, his gaze falling on the slightly furrowed brow of Chu Rong’s profile. He clenched his fists — after more than two years, he had found someone he cared about, and finally touched upon a hint of truth about why he had come here.

Chu Rong had analyzed with him that the Zerg was attracted by someone, and the passage was artificially created. So, if he was also attracted artificially — wait a minute! If he was also brought here artificially, did that mean that there was a teleportation passage on the Chu family’s mining planet where he first arrived in this world?

No, that’s not right. He shouldn’t have been intentionally brought here by the Ning family or the mastermind. His arrival was probably just an accident; otherwise, the Ning family wouldn’t have failed to capture him.

His face tensed as he quickly pondered the situation. Then, he suddenly remembered something — there seemed to be an Imperial warship buried beneath the place where he was transported!

According to Chu Rong, that warship belonged to Jian’s father, who was the lover of the Imperial High Advisor, the late Prince An Lunn. He was killed by the former Emperor when he found an opportunity to investigate the secrets behind the Zergs… So it’s highly possible that An Lunn had already discovered something back then, perhaps even obtained a device capable of creating teleportation passages! However, for some reason, An Lunn’s warship ended up being destroyed on the Chu family’s mining planet.

……It was very likely that there was a black hole transmission device on the warship that really brought him here!

His thoughts instantly cleared. He was immediately excited.

He currently has the device from the Zerg Queen’s transmission black hole and the raw material, black stone, for making the device. If he can find the teleportation device that brought him here in the first place, then there’s hope of going back home!

As long as he thoroughly studies that device, analyzes its specific usage methods, and determines the correct direction… he needs to ask Chu Rong to obtain An Lunn’s warship and thoroughly search it!

At that time, his magic power had just been activated, it was relatively weak, and many important clues might have been missed! So he must search again! Maybe there will be new discoveries this time!

The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. He couldn’t sit still any longer and was about to contact Chu Rong, when suddenly he heard exclamations from Chu Yan and Gu Yan’an beside him. It snapped him back to reality, making him realize that Chu Rong was currently participating in a public trial and wouldn’t be available to take his call.

He paused, lowered his communicator and looked up at the screen. Immediately, he almost let out an exclamation.

While he was lost in thought, he didn’t know which stage the trial had reached. Currently, evidence was being presented in court. Behind a large stack of classified documents and testing reports on harmful drugs from the Ning family, a video was playing.

The content of the video is very familiar – it was of the Zerg Queen whose limbs he tore off brutally before.

In the video, the Zerg Queen was trapped in a sealed environment, already awake but only able to struggle meaninglessly. Its appearance had changed from before; it was covered in unsightly slime, with a large hole in its head. It made one wonder how it could still be alive with such injuries.

The prosecution zoomed in on the video and then produced a device resembling a remote control. They explained in detail, saying, “This is the tool used by Ning Tianya to control the Zerg Queen. There’s a sensor device inside the Zerg Queen’s brain that can release different types of neurotransmitter, affecting the queen’s actions. For example, this button…”

The prosecution pressed a button, and the writhing Zerg Queen immediately stopped still. And then, it began to crazily ram its body to the wall.

“That cage must be made of Grade 10 materials. It didn’t even break despite the impact,” Chu Yan sighed, his face creased with concern. He even shielded Gu Yan’an’s view with a pillow, and didn’t touch the snacks. “Dasao, Qiao is right. Watching this isn’t good for prenatal education.”

Gu Yan’an also felt that the scene was too grotesque. She took the pillow from Chu Yan and covered her own view.

The people watching the trial on Starnet were all shocked and disgusted – the Zerg Queen was really hard to look at.

The prosecution probably realized that the footage could cause discomfort to viewers, so they quickly turned off the video. They then presented some potions and analysis reports, continuing, “The substances used by the Ning family to control soldiers are made from this kind of secretion found on the Zergs. This slimy substance can corrode the human mind, and prolonged use causes physical stiffness, turning people into mindless zombies.”

The public frowned, and their hatred against the Ning family was raised again – they couldn’t believe that the Ning family would slip this kind of substance into their medicines and drugs. Truly abhorrent!

After discussing these major crimes, the prosecution presented another video recording, revealing the Ning family’s involvement in human experimentation and Ning Tianxing’s use of his own son for research purposes.

The public froze, and then exploded into discussion.

What did they hear? Human experiment? Experimented on his own son? Creating Zerg was inhumane enough, but the Ning family just straight up was doing human experiments? Using their own blood-related family members??

Everyone remembered Ning Kongran and was confused again.

But that’s not right. Ning Tianxing’s son Ning Kongran looked normal – he was healthy, didn’t look like he was experimented on.

As if sensing their doubts, the prosecution showed the evidence — a small boy, probably not older than 10, lying on a cold table, struggling in pain.

Although the picture was censored, the people were shocked. Then, they finally realized that Ning Tianxing had another son besides Ning Kongran.

Ning Kongran actually has a younger brother!

After that, there were various terrible experimental pictures. The public’s exclamations of shock never stopped. The pillow that Gu Yan’an used to cover her eyes has never been taken off.

After the end of this part, all the Ning family’s crimes were all laid out. It’s finally time for Long Ruifeng and An Xei’s trial.

Long Ruifeng’s charges were straightforward: treason and the use of drugs to harm and manipulate members of the You family. His case was quickly summarized.

Finally, it was An Xei’s turn. At this point, the prosecution team from the Federation stepped down, and the prosecution team from the Empire took over.

The charges against An Xei were listed from most severe to least severe: slaughtering members of the royal family, colluding with the Ning family in an attempt to overthrow the governments of both the Federation and the Empire, and attempting to provoke war. Among these charges, the most egregious to the public was the one involving providing human test subjects to the Ning family for their experiments.

All the evidence was too solid. There’s no way to justify their crimes. The public’s anger continued to rise.

The trial proceeded according to the process, with witnesses coming forward one by one to recount their experiences as victims. Among them, a group of Hermits with distinctive appearances attracted the most attention.

As the day darkened, the public trial finally reached the last stage: the sentencing. All the defendants were brought forward.

They were separated and locked in transparent containment booths, their limbs restrained, and their heads fitted with spiritual power suppressors. Some were even in a state of unconsciousness. But there was no sympathy for them. After learning about the atrocities they had committed, the public was eager to see them punished without mercy.

“The verdict… Ning Tianxing is to be sentenced to a spiritual execution.”

Hearing the judge’s sentence, Qiao Zhiya looked puzzled. He looked at Chu Yan, then asked, “What is a spiritual execution?”

Chu Yan’s relaxed mood these days was once again weighed down by this trial. He frowned and replied, “It’s just a means to prevent them from dying so easily. Spiritual execution, or spiritual death penalty, is the cruelest punishment in the Federation, something that hasn’t been used for hundreds of years. The specific procedure involves slowly disturbing and stimulating a person’s spiritual power, making the prisoner gradually experience the process of spiritual power dissolution and physical death, which is much more painful than simply injecting a poison needle to kill them. And throughout this process, the prisoner remains fully conscious.”

Qiao Zhiya couldn’t help but think about the soldiers who had been poisoned by the Ning family’s “medicine”. He silently suppressed the unbearable feelings in his heart.

Chu Yan knew he might not be able to handle something like this, so he raised his arm and put it on his shoulder, changing the subject, saying, “I’ve eaten a ton of snacks, I probably won’t be able to eat dinner later… By the way, final exams are coming up soon, have you prepared? Don’t mess up the exams.”

Qiao Zhiya glanced at the time upon hearing this, thinking of the baby in Gu Yan’an’s belly. His attention was immediately diverted, and as he got up, he said, “I’m prepared, don’t worry, I won’t mess up. I’ll go check if dinner is ready—”

“What is that?”

Gu Yan’an made a sudden noise, with a hint of panic in her voice.

Chu Yan and Qiao Zhiya looked at each other then at the screen.

In the middle of the screen, after the judge pronounced the verdict on each of the convicts, a small black hole about the size of a human head appeared inside the containment booth of An Xei. An Xei, who was originally unconscious, was now involuntarily moving his head, looking extremely eerie.

“Ah! Black hole!”

The screams echoed across the Starnet, causing panic among the populace who, having felt a sense of relief upon seeing the convicts sentenced, were once again thrown into a state of fear and chaos, shouting in alarm.

The soldier standing behind An Xei was shocked for a moment, then immediately moved to pull An Xei out. Chu Rong, seated in the spectator’s area, swiftly approached, first using his spiritual power to push the soldier away, then using it to firmly surround An Xei’s containment booth. He then ordered in a commanding tone to the surrounding area, “Evacuate the area! Nobody get close here, be cautious, the black hole is expanding!”

Everyone woke up from their panicked state. The soldiers waiting in the corner of the field started to act and began to protect everyone, leading a swift evacuation.

As Chu Rong reached out towards the containment booth to pull An Xei out and dispel the black hole, before he could touch the barrier, An Xei, who had been struggling meaninglessly, suddenly opened his eyes wide and lunged forward. At the same time, a powerful force erupted, forcibly pushing Chu Rong’s hand away.

“It’s you…” An Xei’s eyes flickered as he coldly fixed them on Chu Rong, who stood composed in front of him. His tone was eerie as he said, “It’s you… who destroyed my little pet.”

The voice was still An Xei’s, but the viscous, slippery tone… Chu Rong’s eyes flickered, retracting his hand. He squinted back, a cold smirk playing on his lips as he said, “Finally daring to show yourself, you coward.”

“An Xei” was visibly provoked by his words, his expression shifting rapidly, but then he quickly laughed, murmuring, “I’ll remember you.”

With those words, he suddenly extended his arm and leaned his body into the now half-person-sized black hole, fixing a gaze filled with murderous intent on Chu Rong. He then twisted his neck and said, “Chu family… Hahaha, Chu family, you’re doomed.”

The black hole expanded sharply, engulfing An Xei’s body,  before suddenly collapsing.

All the violent force vanished in an instant, and Chu Rong looked at the now empty containment booth with a deep, intense gaze, his eyes filled with killing intent.

Finally showing their face, this damned monster.
