Character ListQiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

The next day, Qiao Zhiya, who woke up and remembered what happened the day before, was so ashamed that he hid in the room and refused to come out. Chu Rong went in with a dark face, dug him out of the quilt, placed him on the sofa in the living room, and stuffed him with a lot of material.

“Planet F78, a recluse, an orphaned refugee after a planet-wide catastrophe that led to complete annihilation. Remember the terrain and location of this planet clearly, this is your hometown.” Chu Rong turned on a three-dimensional map of a planet to show him. He then zoomed in on a part, specifically a mountain range which was completely burned by a wildfire, “Here is the location of ‘Pariet’ Valley you are talking about, understand?”

Qiao Zhiya looked at the strange scorched valley. He immediately forgot what happened yesterday, instead he focused on remembering his official background, and nodded solemnly, “Understood.”

“Very good.” Chu Rong was very satisfied with his cooperation. The Marshal handed him the map and said, “You’re going to report to your new school tomorrow. As for today, you can learn more about the Recluse’s position in the Federation. In addition, I communicated with Master Ren that your mechanical dolls and all the things you created by your special spiritual power can be sold. However, you must use the identity of ‘Master Ren’s apprentice’. For the laboratory’s access, Tan Shengwei will give you a certified online account tomorrow. Use the identity of that account to sell things in the future.”

“Master Ren’s apprentice?” Qiao Zhiya wondered.

“This is just an identity for fooling outsiders. As long as you are hiding behind that identity, no one will know who you are, nor dare to dig deeper. You can go to your school with peace of mind. I will tell Master Ren about other things. That old man will deal with it,” Chu Rong explained succinctly. Still, the older man kept playing with Qiao Zhiya’s ears. He pinched his ear as he continued, “Remember not to say anything. When you become really strong, you won’t need to keep so many secrets. You can stand upright with your true identity, understand?”

It also meant that Qiao Zhiya could now freely buy and sell things. He didn’t need to worry about being found out and causing trouble, as long as he used this “Master Ren’s Apprentice” identity. All possible risks have been eliminated in advance.

“Thank you!” Qiao Zhiya couldn’t help but leaned over, rubbed his head against Chu Rong’s palm, and said, “I will work hard to make money! I will also work hard to train my power and cure your illness!”

Chu Rong frowned at the mention of treatment. He glanced at the youth’s happy face. It’s clear that this Bald Chicken wanted to repay something immediately. Remembering that made him relaxed. He continued to rub that fleshy, long ear and said, “There is no rush to treat my illness. Your spiritual power is too special, it should be a mutated variant, and not suitable to be publicly known. We will keep the third-level disability appraisal for you, as a kind of protection. Zhuang Yu will pick you up after school tomorrow to take you for a detailed physical examination. Cooperate well, my spiritual power pollution cannot be solved overnight. You don’t have to worry too much, take care of yourself first.”

Physical examination?

Qiao Zhiya blinked, nodded to express his understanding, and at the same time silently decided in his heart to practice magic well and cure the White-Haired Monster as soon as possible.

After explaining this, Chu Rong went out, while Qiao Zhiya stayed at home to cram as much information about the Recluse.

After learning about the various appearances and different abilities of the Recluse from the book, Qiao Zhiya finally understood why the White-Haired Monster and his group believed his words so quickly — it turned out that there were people like him in this world. A lot of them did have unique traits exclusive to their race, or at least, different appearance from a normal human. Compared to his unique ability and appearance, they were in the same category!

He also understood a little bit why the White-Haired Monster still believed that his ability was one of the mutated variants of spiritual power after listening to his confession. Here, a variant of spiritual power with the same healing effect as his wood magic power also exists. It’s just that after experiencing persecution from a few decades back, these people with mutated-type spiritual power disappeared from the public eye.

The only difference between magic power and those mutated variant spiritual powers was that magic power couldn’t be detected and recognized by spiritual power detectors. And this feature was precisely beneficial to him. In the future, when the things he made will be sold on the Internet under his new identity. While in real life, he wouldn’t attract unnecessary attention at all. As long as he kept everything secret, nobody would equate “Master Ren’s Apprentice” to him.

All the things that he didn’t understand and worried about before, were all explained by this thick pile of papers. He also understood that he was also given extra self-protection.

He took out his brand-new identity card, looked at the line on it that represented his origin, and pursed his lips into a smile — a refugee with special spiritual power. This would be the basis for him to start a new life here.

On the day of the report, Chu Rong personally sent Qiao Zhiya to Tan Shengwei who was waiting at the school gate.

“Attend the school diligently and don’t get into trouble,” Chu Rong frowned as he instructed.

Qiao Zhiya, who had already changed into the uniform of the junior college, nodded obediently. He leaned over to hug him with a blushing face, and whispered: “Be careful when driving, I will miss you.” Saying goodbye like this was giving a domestic taste to the whole interaction.

Tan Shengwei who was waiting on the side widened his eyes — Qiao1They really called QZY with only “Qiao” btw. This was quite unusual in Chinese standards actually. actually hugged the Marshal, my God!

Chu Rong was stiffened as he was hugged, but still raised his hand and patted him on the back. He then gently pushed him away, and said, “Concentrate on class, don’t think much about unimportant stuff. Go in.”

Tan Shengwei’s eyes widened to the size of a saucer — oh my God, the Marshal actually hugged Qiao back and said such domestic things in a gentle tone. Is it the end of the world???

The two men waved goodbye in a warm atmosphere. Chu Rong turned around and got into the car. Before leaving, he nodded slightly at Tan Shengwei. He instantly cooled off into his usual very perfunctory attitude.

Tan Shengwei: “…” Sure enough, this was the familiar Marshal.

The suspension car swished away, leaving behind a gust of wind.

“Tan-ge?” Qiao Zhiya poked the frozen Tan Shengwei, and motioned to the school gate, “We should go in.”

Tan Shengwei regained his focus. He restrained his gawkish expression, looked the youth up and down in surprise, and stretched out his hand to pat him on the shoulder. The captain  exclaimed, “As expected of Qiao… let’s go, I’ll take you to find a grade-examination teacher.”

On the way to the office building, Tan Shengwei explained to him a little about the federation’s higher education system.

Welfare colleges are divided into three types: junior, intermediate, and advanced. Both junior and intermediate were basic education and must be completed. Students could choose whether or not to continue to advanced college. But generally, except for children who were particularly stupid and innately untalented that couldn’t pass the entrance exam, would choose to continue to study in advanced colleges.

With the development of science and technology, there were so many disciplines to be studied in the education system. So after completing the courses of the junior college, students would choose their future study direction before being promoted to the intermediate college. After that, they finally went to the specialized intermediate college, usually in the same field of study. Of course, there were people who changed their field of study during this time, but the numbers weren’t much. Most people already know which field they’re good at or bad at by the time they get into the intermediate college. They wouldn’t waste time on the things they weren’t interested in anyways.

Basically, the study in the intermediate college is to prepare for the corresponding advanced college in the future. It could be said that starting from the intermediate college, a student’s future development direction was determined.

“Junior college’s courses were relatively simple and loose. There were only four classes a day, three in the morning and one in the afternoon. But there are many elective courses. You should choose a few you like to experience and prepare for choosing a specialized field of study for intermediate college in the future.”

The Teaching Building was within sight, and Tan Shengwei almost finished his explanation.

Qiao Zhiya thanked him for his time. His eyes fell on a little carrot-head2a fond way of saying children. I guess because carrots have a little sprout on their top? not far away, who was only about seven or eight years old, but wearing the same style of uniform as himself. He then asked the question he was most puzzled about after entering the school, “Tan-ge, the age of the students in the junior college…”

Tan Shengwei also realized that he had missed this, and looked at him with some embarrassment, “That’s right, because the junior college is the place where children receive the most basic education, the age of the students is all the same… that is to say, they’re still very young.”

Qiao Zhiya looked straight at him, and continued to ask: “Is there anyone with the same age range as me?”

Tan Shengwei avoided his gaze, and replied: “…there’s none.”

The junior college3To be honest, I think “college” is not quite accurate. It should be “school” as it’s more general. But since the previous tl used “college” and I thought it was also “college” when I first read it… I’ll keep using “college” for the sake of consistency. was a six-year program, while the intermediate college was a five-year program. Since children of the Federation usually started attending college at the age of six, people around his age were… normally preparing for the advanced college4If you want an equation: junior college = primary school; intermediate college = middle + high school; advanced college = university entrance examination.

The average age of the oldest student at junior college was only twelve years old. Qiao Zhiya was way beyond the average. By seven whole years.

The air seemed to freeze for a few seconds.

“I’m going to skip several grades.” Before stepping into the teaching building, Qiao Zhiya said with a determined face, his tone was affirmative and unquestionable.

Tan Shengwei understood this sentiment. He glanced at the youth and comforted him, “There are many Exoplanet Natives5I’m going to exert my creative license and use this term instead of “indigenous” or “aboriginal” because it’s more descriptive. and Recluses like you every year, it’s nothing strange. No need to think too much about it.”

Qiao Zhiya nodded obediently, and replied, “I won’t think too much about it, but I still want to skip grades.” As a person who prided himself in his intellect, he would never allow himself to be mixed in with a bunch of naive children.

Time was finite, and he needed to rush to get independent as soon as possible.

After greeting the teachers in advance, Qiao Zhiya met with the teacher in charge of the exam and was taken directly to the examination room. Meanwhile, Tan Shengwei stayed outside to communicate with the school principal about Qiao Zhiya’s arrangements.

With a fiery determination to skip as many grades as possible, Qiao Zhiya completed the grade skipping exam ahead of schedule. Five minutes later, the electronic grading machine gave out his result – his grades were just enough to meet the fifth grade standard. However,  because there were many missing knowledge points, it was deemed not enough for the fifth grade, but just right for the fourth grade.

Tan Shengwei was quite satisfied with this result. The junior college mainly focused on teaching the Common Language and the basics of many fields of studies. When Qiao Zhiya was still living on the warship, Lin Zhen did teach him a lot of these basics. Zhuang Yu also helped, especially in the Biology department. Seeing Qiao Zhiyan’s serious attitude when studying, his knowledge about these things were quite solid.

“Then go to the fourth grade. You can slowly—”

“I’m going to the sixth grade,” Qiao Zhiya suddenly interrupted him, looked at the middle-aged teacher in charge of grading him, and said, “Please let me go directly to the sixth grade. I promise to use the fastest speed to catch up with the knowledge points of the fifth grade and keep up with the sixth grade.”

Tan Shengwei was the only one who was stunned by this bold declaration. The gentle teacher wasn’t surprised at all. Instead, he looked at Qiao Zhiya with a warm smile and said, “How do you guarantee your promise?”

Qiao Zhiya thought for a while, then took out the textbook he got when he graduated from the Adaptive Education Academy. He flipped the book to the correct page and showed it to the teacher. “This is my self-study progress in the past half month, you can take a look.”

The “textbook” was actually an electronic file. It showed a detailed account of all the knowledge points of each subject that Qiao Zhiya has studied. The content was refined, which made it worthy to be used as an evaluation of his current study progress. This textbook should be a commonly-used one within the military.

The teacher flipped through the place where the notes were made, and was a little surprised, “How long have you been studying by yourself?”

“Half a month.” Qiao Zhiya was less confident when asked this question.

He didn’t need to learn the part about Common Language in this textbook again, so his self-study progress was very fast. But seeing the teacher’s expression… does this mean his progress rate was still too slow?

He became a little annoyed. In fact, if he hadn’t been distracted by carving that new piece of emerald jade, making and selling greatswords, and wasting all of his weekend vacations because of that confession, he should have been able to finish this textbook by himself.

Thinking of this, he quickly added: “Give me another week– no, just give me another five days, I will definitely finish this textbook, and then you can test me again, and I promise to keep up with the sixth grade classes, I swear.”

Both Tan Shengwei and the teacher stopped talking. It made Qiao Zhiya become more nervous.

“Qiao, you are really…” Tan Shengwei was in a very complicated mood.

It took him one day to complete the adaptive education, and half a month to complete the courses of several years in the junior college. Although most of the courses in junior college were very simple, this level of learning ability could be said to be against the heavens. [outrageously good.]

The teacher came back to his senses, and looked at Qiao Zhiya with an odd look. He filled in the information on his blank student card, assigned his class, and said, “Your classroom is in Building V, and there will be a teacher there to guide you. You go to that classroom to familiarize yourself with the environment. We welcome you to enroll in our sixth grade class.”

Qiao Zhiya’s eyes lit up, and he hurriedly took the student card. He was ecstatic, “Thank you laoshi6teacher. I normally translate this, but to keep things consistent with the usage of “Lao’er” “Erge” “Lao xx”, I’m not translating this~, I will study hard!”

Tan Shengwei had a hunch. With that abnormal learning speed, Qiao would probably skip a couple more grades even when he attended intermediate college…

Tan Shengwei left Qiao Zhiya after sending the youth to his classroom. Qiao Zhiya got to know the new teacher and the environment of Building V. He also received new textbooks, followed the instructions to download the student client on his communicator, and was finally arranged into the classroom.

Human children in the Federation grew fast. The sixth grade students were all about twelve years old, and their height was basically over 1.6 meters. Girls were generally taller than boys at this age, so when Qiao Zhiya entered the classroom, he found that most of the female students were not much shorter than him, but there were a few male students who were half a head shorter than him. With his tender, youthful looks, at least he didn’t look too out of place when he mixed with this group of radish-heads7again, another fond way of saying “children” and carrot-heads.

When he was introduced by the teacher, he found that most of the students in the audience were secretly looking at his ears, but their eyes were all very restrained. They were only curious without any bad intentions.

Seeing this, Qiao Zhiya breathed a sigh of relief, and at the same time felt very grateful — Fan Xiangnan helped him choose the school, and the other party has always been thoughtful and careful in his work. The school he picked was indeed very good.

After three regular classes in the morning, Qiao Zhiya and the students around him have almost gotten to know each other. Everyone here was very friendly and polite. They understandably still very childish, but they were easy to get along with.

After a morning of study, he finally felt the continuous daily usage of spiritual power in every aspect of life — connecting to the school network requires spiritual power, starting the school teaching program requires spiritual power, and going to the cafeteria to eat requires spiritual power, and taking even the school bus also requires spiritual power. To be fair, the latter two was to use the door as a measure against strangers with bad intentions… but still…

After the official course was over, spiritual power was also needed to enter the elective course program… In short, most of the things he can do manually at home were all driven by spiritual power here.

He also vaguely realized that the layout of the White-Haired Monster’s house had probably been deliberately altered to weaken the role of spiritual power in life. After all, the other party had been in a state where he could not use his spiritual power at will because of serious spiritual power pollution.

…it also suited his current situation.

I applaud QZY for being brave enough to study in the same room with a bunch of twelve year olds.
