Character ListQiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

Chu Rong: Marshal ML.

Fan Xiangnan: ML’s second-in-command.

Zhuang Yu: A doctor in ML’s army.

Chu Yan: ML’s younger brother. Is the same age as MC, currently attending intermediate college.

A robotic voice rang inside his ears. Qiao Zhiya was stunned for a moment, and then he wanted to sit up excitedly, but he slammed into the closed hatch.

“Hiss—”

He fell back into the cabin, raised his hand to cover his forehead, and the robotic voice repeated its question. This time Qiao Zhiya was prepared, he hurriedly opened the hatch by pushing the switch, and crawled out. He looked at the device with shock in his eyes.

What happened? How could this starnet cabin detect unbound spiritual power fluctuations? The power in his body was obviously magic power. Even Zhuang Yu-jie failed to detect his power with various high-end instruments…

He raised his hand to touch his spiritual power simulator, but found that the power stored inside didn’t deplete. There shouldn’t be any fluctuation, then? He frowned in doubt.

If it’s not because of this, what’s going on? Could it be that this starnet cabin really sensed his magic power?

He wanted to try again. But he remembered what Chu Yan had said – most of this school’s equipment was connected to the military headquarters, so he didn’t dare to act rashly. After thinking about it, he briefly summarized the matter, and sent a communication message to Chu Rong.

Ten minutes later, Chu Rong sent out a video call request, and Qiao Zhiya quickly accepted.

“What’s going on?” Chu Rong was sitting in his study with an electronic notebook at hand, obviously busy just now.

After seeing him, Qiao Zhiya felt much relieved, and hurriedly explained what happened just now in detail. He asked, “Could it be because of the spiritual power simulator? Though…I found that the spiritual power stored inside has not decreased.”

“No. It can’t be. “Chu Rong frowned, his eyes became serious and explained what he knew, “Firstly, your Starnet account is bound to your spiritual power, as each person’s spiritual power signature is unique. This was made to prevent other people logging in to your account. That’s why you can’t log in to Starnet with the spiritual power in the simulator. Did you use the starnet cabin after that?”

After listening to the Marshal’s explanation, Qiao Zhiya was stunned for a moment.  He shook his head first, and then asked: “So that means… this starnet cabin really sensed my magic power?”

If this was actually possible, it was very beneficial for him. His magic power was incompatible with many devices used in this human world. It really hindered his everyday life, and especially his future career.

As for Chu Rong, he thought this situation could be a potential hidden danger to Qiao Zhiya. He almost followed his impulse to bring the youth back, but he held back. Thankfully, Qiao Zhiya left the starnet cabin immediately after discovering something was wrong, and did not continue to log in. The overall situation could still be under control.

“When the managers come to collect the starnet cabin tomorrow, they will definitely find that it was activated tonight. You tell them that it is because of the simulator. If they don’t believe it, you tell them that the spiritual power in your simulator is at the SSS-grade.” Chu Rong fingered his electronic book to vent his irritation. But he kept his tone very calm to not make Qiao Zhiya panic, “Tomorrow I will send someone to send you a special Starnet helmet. Try again to log in. If you can still be detected, then this weekend you must come back. I’ll take you for a checkup.”

“Okay.” Qiao Zhiya nodded, seeing Chu Rong’s expression was not good, he hurriedly comforted him, “It was just an accident, I will pay more attention to it in the future, don’t worry.”

Chu Rong frowned. He didn’t like how cautious Qiao Zhiya looked, and said, “You don’t have to be too careful. Even if something happens, I’m still there.”

After speaking, he glanced at the youth sitting on the bed in his pajamas. He eased his expression a little and asked: “How is school, who is your roommate?”

“The college is really good, Xiao Yan took me…” Afraid that he would be worried all the time, Qiao Zhiya hurriedly answered his question. He deliberately made himself look more excited  than he actually was as he described his life.

Seeing that he was talking happily, Chu Rong’s expression really eased. He gave appropriate responses during Qiao Zhiya’s answer from time to time. The overall atmosphere gradually became warmer.

After talking for half an hour, Qiao Zhiya began to yawn.

“Go to sleep.” Chu Rong interrupted him, and said in a gentle tone, “Tell me when you know the name of your roommate. Take good care of your studies. I will pick you up on weekends.”

Qiao Zhiya rubbed his nose embarrassedly and smiled at him, “Then you should also go to bed early. Don’t be too tired. Good night, have a good dream.”

After rubbing his nose until it’s red, the Bald Chicken looked even more stupid. Chu Rong liked this stupid look, though. The corner of his mouth slightly rose. He whispered, “Good night, good dream.”

Finally, he hung up the communication first.

The holographic projection of Qiao Zhiya gradually flickered off. Particles of light lingered at the place the youth was sitting, leaving only a deserted room. Chu Rong clicked on the communicator, glanced at the unfinished documents on the table, and was still concentrating on Qiao Zhiya’s matter. After returning to his senses, he sent a message to Fan Xiangnan to continue the previous video conference.

In the dormitory, the smile on Qiao Zhiya’s face disappeared. He made sure all of his devices were shut off. He then turned around and climbed onto the bed, pulled the quilt to cover himself, and closed his eyes.

“Boom!!”

Qiao Zhiya sat up suddenly, stared at the door, and realized that the sound came from the living room outside. It should be that his roommate came back.

He ran outside to check, and saw a blurry figure of a taller man.

“You, are you okay?”

The figure who was climbing up froze for a moment, and looked back at him.

It was a very cold face with nice features, but his expression was slightly distorted. He looked displeased by something.

Seeing that he was frozen and not moving, Qiao Zhiya thought that he had fallen somewhere, and rushed to help him. Anxiously, he asked, “Did you fall and get hurt? Do you want to go to the school infirmary?”

The stiff man came back to his senses, turned slightly to avoid Qiao Zhiya’s outstretched hand. His previous displeased expression smoothed out into a neutral one. He had a cold face with beautiful brown eyes. However, he had this slight condescending look towards Qiao Zhiya. With a calm tone, he responded, “No, need. Thank you for your concern, are you the freshman who moved in today?”

The voice had an overall cold yet airy tone. It was very nice sounding.

As someone who secretly liked looking at good-looking people, Qiao Zhiya reflexively smiled at him. He introduced himself, “Yes, hello, I am Qiao Zhiya, a first-year major in mechanical design. I just attended college today.”

“I’m Sang Bu, a fifth-year information system major. Good night.” The cold-looking beauty briefly introduced himself. He snuck a glance at Qiao Zhiya’s pointy ears, then turned around without changing expression. Maintaining a noble and elegant appearance, he returned to the room.

“Boom!!”

The cold beauty Sang Bu accidentally bumped into a stool on the side again. He staggered a bit before standing still, and then maintained an elegant state. His posture was a little stiff, and he speeded up back into his room, as if there was a ghost chasing after him. The whole process was suspiciously smooth. He didn’t dare to look back.

“…”

Qiao Zhiya would just pretend he didn’t see his roommate’s reddened ears. He silently  stepped forward to help the stool up, and moved it to a place in the back where it would not be easy to be hit. He pursed his lips into a smile. This roommate of his seemed to be very cute.

At 7:30 the next morning, Qiao Zhiya woke up as the second the school’s wake-up bell rang. He got up quickly and changed his clothes. After washing up, he went to the first-grade morning training hall1think of it as a combination of outdoor and indoor gym. according to his class schedule and the navigation guidance. Along the way, he drank a nutrition solution for his breakfast.

Because the college was connected with the military department, the schedule of this college was partly influenced by military training. While there was a wake-up bell and morning training, the training time was relatively short. It was also not required to go every day, only needed to fill up a monthly quota.

Qiao Zhiya, as a transfer student, didn’t have enough training time to fill out this month’s quota. So for the rest of this month, he must go to morning training every day to clock in.

According to the guidelines, he came to the training hall where the first grade was located. He swiped his client terminal to enter the hall, and first went to the testing device to measure his physical power qualification. The device also spat out a training program suitable for his level of physique. He decided to follow along with the program. According to the list, he just needed  to find the corresponding equipment for training, then use it accordingly.

The morning training lasted for half an hour, and the program asked him to run on the treadmill with a weight load. At first, he was a bit wary of operating this foreign machinery. But thankfully, he just needed to swipe his student client to turn it on. The setting was also easy to navigate, he just needed to input the training time and the load weight. The machine immediately gave him the appropriate equipment.

“…” It’s very convenient.

Qiao Zhiya put on the novel weight-bearing equipment. He waited for the treadmill to start, then started running.

Both dwarves and elves were species that were used to run in the forest. Running was no pressure for Qiao Zhiya, but running around like this was boring. He simply took out a course-related e-book and read it.

There were many basic courses in the mechanical design department, most of which were concentrated in the first three years. The next two years were all professional research courses, mostly actually applying their knowledge to build a prototype. Qiao Zhiya did not have much theoretical knowledge, but had rich practical experience. It seemed that the basic theoretical knowledge was quite short. He made the holographic image to stack up for easy reading. He set out a personal goal: to finish reading it by the time his training time also finished.

The physical education teachers scattered around the training hall quickly noticed this strange student. At first, they thought he was being lazy and skipped his training, but they found out that the treadmill was operating normally. In fact, the speed kept increasing, and yet the student had no trouble keeping up while reading something.

One teacher was a little confused. The student looked thin and small, but he ran at the most difficult variable speed run. Did the system make a mistake?

The teacher was worried that the system made a mistake. He hurriedly ran back to check it, only to find that the student profile corresponding to that machine was actually marked with S-grade physical qualifications. He was immediately stunned.

That skinny and petite boy was actually S-rank??

He turned his head to look at the boy. He should’ve been running at a fast speed, but he looked like he was just taking a stroll in the garden. He didn’t look exhausted at all. He even had the time to focus his mind at the holographic textbook projection that kept flipping up in front of him. The teacher fell silent—forget it, there were still scarier monsters in school. This boy was probably a new young genius in the mecha driving department.

Thinking like this, the teacher directly ignored the words “mechanical design major” on his student profile.

At 9 o’clock, the first class began. Qiao Zhiya glanced at his five-years-younger classmates with a weird look in his eyes. He gripped the barrel of his electronic pen with prejudice. He vowed in his heart – he must skip grades, as soon as possible!

Today’s class ended successfully, and Qiao Zhiya went to the cafeteria to have dinner and returned to his dormitory. There, he found that the people from the starnet cabin tech support had arrived.

“Excuse me, are you Qiao Zhiya?” The serious-looking middle-aged man asked, pointing to the star network cabin that had been moved to the living room, and asked: “We detected that the star network cabin was activated last night, but according to the data, you don’t have spiritual power yourself. Can you please tell us the specific situation?”

Qiao Zhiya, who remembered what Chu Rong ordered him, hastily explained according to the rhetoric finalized yesterday. The middle-aged man looked at his colleague in tandem suspicion. They both expressed wanting to see his spiritual power simulator.

Qiao Zhiya graciously took off the simulator and gave it to him, adding, “The spiritual power in my simulator is at SSS-level. You should be careful when you handle it, it might backfire.”

The middle-aged man’s hand holding the simulator froze for a moment, but in the end he still took it. Then, he carefully probed into the device with his own spiritual power.

A sharp and domineering spiritual force counterattacked ferociously after sensing his probing. The middle-aged man hurriedly cut off the connection and returned the simulator to Qiao Zhiya with a pale face.

Not long after that, the starnet cabin tech support left.

Sang Bu, who had been sitting by the side as a mere onlooker, glanced up and down at Qiao Zhiya. His sharp eyes glided over the simulator in his hand, and muttered to himself, “SSS-grade spiritual power…   it seems that he is a child of a wealthy family.”

In the Federation, any people with SSS-grade spiritual power were all in the government or military, and their number was so small that you can count them on one hand. He didn’t expect this newcomer to have such a powerful background.

Qiao Zhiya turned to look at him, shook his head honestly, and replied, “I’m not a child of a powerful family, but I was lucky enough to accept their help. Sang Bu, it’s wrong to look at people with colored glasses.” He might have misheard, but with yesterday’s stares directed at him, he still had a thought that Sang Bu’s ridicule and disdain wasn’t actually directed to Qiao Zhiya personally.

Seeing his earnest eyes, Sang Bu froze, a faint blush suddenly appeared on his face. He got defensive, “I’m not going to use colored glasses to look at a little first-grader. You’ve only been weaned for a few years—”

“It’s been fifteen years since I was weaned, and I’m seventeen years old.” Qiao Zhiya seriously corrected, “Not a few short years.”

Sang Bu choked. With widened eyes, he exclaimed: “You’re seventeen years old? I thought you…wait, why are you still in the first grade then?”

“Because I’m a Recluse – an Exoplanet Native who just entered the Federation not long ago.” Qiao Zhiya thought his wide-eyed look was much cuter than his cold face. He replied with a smile, and pointed to his long, pointy ear, “I thought you had already seen this.”

“I thought you were stupid and had too much money in your hands, so you made a fake in order to make yourself look special—” Sang Bu rambled, but then covered his mouth when he realized he said it outloud. He looked positively ashamed. He apologized quickly, turned around, and ran away – hitting a wall on his way out.

Qiao Zhiya: “…”

Again, Qiao Zhiya didn’t mind that, and decided to take a shower. After washing himself up, the dorm manager sent a message telling him to pick up a package. Thinking of the special starnet cabin helmet that Chu Rong mentioned last night, Qiao Zhiya’s eyes lit up. He hurriedly dressed and ran outside.

When he reached the corner of the corridor, he almost bumped into a person head-on. Fortunately, the other person moved to the side nimbly, and he took a step back in time, otherwise the two of them would have “hugged” each other fiercely.

“Sorry.” Qiao Zhiya apologized hastily. As he was in a hurry to get his helmet, he quickly speed-walked downstairs before properly seeing the other person.

The tall, gentle-looking man watched him leave. His eyes moved when he thought of the little pointed ears that flashed past, hidden in the half-dried blond hair.

“Kongran! What are you doing standing there? Come here quickly, the game is about to start.” A big head poked out from behind a dorm room. His voice was booming as he called out to the man.

The man regained his senses, took one last look at the empty stairs, and walked towards his friend.

After getting the helmet, Qiao Zhiya hurried back to his dormitory room. He locked the door and let Qiuqiu listen to the movement outside. He followed the instruction manual. He dismantled the packaging, inputted the appropriate option, laid down on his bed eagerly as he put on the helmet. After feeling comfortable inside the starnet cabin, he closed his eyes.

“An unbound spiritual power signature has been detected. May I ask if you want to bind your account to this device?”

The familiar prompt sounded again, and he suppressed his excitement and chose to confirm. The next second, some light spots suddenly lit up in front of his eyes. It blinded him until he felt a bit dizzy. After adjusting with the brightness, he opened his eyes. It seemed he was currently inside a huge, blank space of a room.

“Welcome to Star Network Cabin Virtual World! After a cursory scan, we found your spiritual power has not been bound to any Starnet Account. Please bind it before signing up. Do you wish to bind and sign up a profile?”

A prompt appeared in front of his eyes. The transparent panel gave him two choices.

Qiao Zhiya looked at all this in amazement. He found that wherever his eyes turned, the corresponding sliding symbols would flash on the panel. Recalling the knowledge of the Star Network that he had learned before, he tried to think of the word “Meissen2the original is “Degu” 德古 which means Antiquated Germany. Since it looks silly as a name, I chose “Meissen”, a town in German famous for 15th century architecture such as Albrechtsburg Castle and Meissen Cathedral. With this, apparently Qiao Zhiya is from a German-inspired medieval fantasy world.” – the name of the hometown. He found that the name was inputted into the account name query box inside the panel.

It really worked!

He was overjoyed, and hurriedly continued to fill in the remaining account information, selected OK, and started to set up his avatar’s appearance.

The helmet automatically scanned his facial data, so in the image setting column, there was an identical black-haired boy with closed eyes. He wanted to reach out and touch him, but found that the avatar was incorporeal – just a manifestation of his subconscious.

After thinking about it, he changed his hair to the same shade of white as Chu Rong’s, adjusted his height to be the same as himself, chose black for the color of his pupils, and chose 30% normalized facial features, so that his avatar wouldn’t be identical to him. After feeling satisfied with the avatar’s appearance, he chose OK again.

“The setting is complete, please watch the novice tutorial.”

The screen changed, and his body became heavy. This time he finally had a physical body, and was taken by the system to start the compulsory novice tutorial.

Fifteen minutes later, the tutorial was over. He filled in “mecha manufacturing” and “mechanical design” as the fields he was interested in, then officially logged into the Internet.

In the next second, overwhelming cheers came from around him, and he found that he was randomly sent to a lively square by the system, surrounded by excited people.

On the floating screen in the square, a line of large characters with special effects was pulsing: [The 1105th Star Network Mecha Manufacturing Competition is about to begin, and the countdown is ten, nine, eight… The competition officially begins. Let’s cheer for the players!]

The crowd became even more excited, and at the same time a reminder sounded in Qiao Zhiya’s ear.

“Would you like to pay 100 star coins to watch the game?”

Today’s second update will be uploaded… uh… soon-ish, I hope.
