Welp, today I got such rotten luck. First, I failed at gaining that sweet, sweet 1,000 USD thesis funding. And second, I twisted my ankle,,,, (╯_╰) let’s hope this means I’ll be lucky next time.

Character ListQiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

Chu Rong: Marshal ML.

Fan Xiangnan: ML’s second-in-command.

Zhuang Yu: A doctor in ML’s army.

Chu Yan: ML’s younger brother. Is the same age as MC, currently attending intermediate college.

Yuan Xiu: Chu Yan’s bestfriend.

Sang Bu: MC’s roommate. Information System major.

Yun Xiachu: MC’s classmate, a first-grader at intermediate college.

Ning Kongran: A fifth-grader at intermediate college.

In order to more accurately verify Qiao Zhiya’s conjecture, Chu Rong took him for another inspection early the next morning. It turned out that the instrument that detected Qiao Zhiya’s mental fluctuations yesterday did not detect anything today.

Qiao Zhiya’s magic was “gone” again.

Chu Rong put down the test results, glanced at Qiao Zhiya who had just climbed out of the testing instrument, took out a few pieces of ink jade and handed them over. He said, “Make the stone grass potion again.”

Qiao Zhiya, who had expected this result, reached out and took the jade. He then sat at the small laboratory-grade table that Zhuang Yu gave him.

A few hours later, the potion came out. Qiao Zhiya laid in the testing instrument again.

“Spiritual power fluctuations detected. Grade: E, stability: high.” Zhuang Yu handed the test results to Chu Rong. Her expression scrunched up, she was completely unhappy, “It turned out to be stone grass, this is really…”

She was disappointed. She was excited that the Cutie could have spiritual power, but her hope was dashed.

Chu Rong took the result and looked at it, frowning deeply.

After finishing lunch outside, Chu Rong took Qiao Zhiya home and motioned him to release his magic power outside.

Qiao Zhiya obediently spread his magic all over the house, then looked at him nervously.

“I really can’t feel it.” Chu Rong finally loosened his frowning brows. He raised his hand to rub the youth’s blond hair, and said, “It seems that the spiritual power simulated by stone grass can only be detected by a machine that is very sensitive to spiritual power.”

Qiao Zhiya was also greatly relieved. He couldn’t help but tilt his head and rubbed it into Chu Rong’s warm palm. With a grateful tone, he thanked the Marshal. He understood his worry over him. And overall, he was thankful that the White-Haired Monster was very patient with his abnormalities.

“Stupid.” Chu Rong pinched his ears, withdrew his hand, and sat on the sofa. He thought for a while, and instructed, “The activity of stone grass can last in your body for about five days. During this period, you should pay special attention to this artificial spiritual power you gained. You have to learn how to fool the machine’s detection and make sure nobody can notice how different your spiritual power is from the normal. You can keep the starnet cabin helmet. Since you want to learn mecha manufacturing on the Internet, then learn it hard. Don’t waste your time on unimportant things and don’t reveal your identity online. The account you own isn’t bound to an actual ID. Nobody but me can ever know this fact, understood?”

Qiao Zhiya nodded obediently. As soon as he heard the Internet being mentioned, he finally couldn’t help leaning over to ask a question he kept inside his heart, “I heard Xiao Yan say that your Internet account is at the level of a national idol. What is your ID? Can I add you as a friend?”

Chu Rong paused after hearing QIao Zhiya’s request. He was silent for a few seconds, shook his head, and replied: “No, you can’t”

Qiao Zhiya was taken aback, and asked doubtfully, “Why? Is it because—”

“Because I haven’t logged in to my account for ten years.” Chu Rong interrupted his reply. He messed up his own bangs, then gave the youth a small smile, “Qiao Zhiya, it’s not appropriate to disclose the fact that my spiritual power condition has improved. That’s why I can’t log in and add you as a friend.”

Only then did Qiao Zhiya realize that he had entered a blind spot in his thinking. He forgot that Chu Rong was supposed to be “crippled” by his spiritual power pollution. He looked at the Marshal apologetically and embarrassedly, “Then I will wait for you to go online next time… And uhm… you should treat your illness first.”

‘Waiting for you to go online next time.’

It was just a simple sentence, but it made Chu Rong’s heart feel really funny again. He looked at the relaxed and defenseless young man who came to him, and suddenly felt that happiness in life could be very simple. The federal situation, historical hatred, family responsibilities, the future of the country… All the things that weighed heavily on his shoulders blurred and disappeared at this moment. Now there was only a silly youth waiting for him to recover and go online.

Huh, this boy really got heavier recently. Did he grow up again? He was still so short…

This kind of simple life… was very good.

“It doesn’t matter if you grow up slowly.” He softly tugged at the youth’s ears, and promised softly, “I can afford to wait.”

As for what he “waited” for, he still didn’t know. But there must be something worthy for him to wait.

He thought that it weirded Qiao Zhiya when he said this, but the youth didn’t say anything. He only stared at the Marshal with an understanding gaze. His pointy ears twitched, and his body leaned on his more.

He was a bit sleepy. He slept a little late last night because his head was full of thoughts, and it also woke him up early. Now, he could feel how comfortable it was to be held in the White-Haired Monster’s embrace. Somehow, he also became gentler and it slowly lulled Qiao Zhiya to another sleep.

Chu Rong tacitly understood what the youth wanted. He let Qiao Zhiya snuggle closer with a comfortable position. Instinctively, he curled up his limbs and closed his eyes. He fell asleep within seconds.

Qiao Zhiya ended up sleeping too much during the day. He successfully got insomnia later that night.

At night–

After failing to fall asleep for the third time, Qiao Zhiya finally climbed up resignedly. He glanced at the direction of Chu Rong’s room through the wall, and secretly took out the starnet cabin helmet. Rather than wasting time trying to sleep, might as well play for a while until he felt naturally sleepy.

When he went online again, he was still standing in that spacious amphitheater. The big screen that attracted everyone’s attention had disappeared, and there were fewer people around him.

The only friend, the red-haired strong man named Raymond, was not online. He closed his friend list, but then he remembered what Ning Kongran said to him. He looked up what he needed with the search engine, and found the mecha manufacturing area in the VR world.

There was the coin exchange area, free-trading area, practice area, education area… Qiao Zhiya immediately fixed his gaze and went over to the education area.

The screen changed, and he appeared in a classroom. On the screen in front of him were the options of elementary education, intermediate education, and advanced education. He turned to elementary education without hesitation.

The screen zoomed back until it covered the entire wall of the classroom, and the previous writing on it disappeared. A teacher walked from the edge of the screen to the middle, looked at Qiao Zhiya, and spoke to him with a friendly smile, “Dear , welcome to the elementary classroom. Please follow your own learning progress and choose a course.”

At the end of the sentence, another row of options appeared in front of Qiao Zhiya. The first one was the material recognition and tool use that Qiao Zhiya had learned in the Intermediate College.

Qiao Zhiya was taken aback by the teacher who appeared out of nowhere. As he panicked, he hurriedly got up to greet him politely. But he found that the teacher did not respond to his greeting, and was still waiting for him to choose a course.

The starnet system gave him a reminder that all teachers in free class were all AI. If he wished to have a real teacher, he needed to choose a paid class.

Qiao Zhiya, a poor man with a balance of only 900 star net coins, sat down silently. He had no choice but to study in the free class.

Playing didn’t get Qiao Zhiya addicted, but learning1God please give me this superpower. did!

He was like a dry sponge dipped into water, crazily absorbing the knowledge taught to him by the AI teacher. He only needed to be taught once to understand. He even blazed through the mid-class quizzes with glowing full marks.

The phrase [congratulations on finishing this subject!] sounded frequently. Not long after, he was kicked by the system out of the classroom because he had been studying for too long. In the end, he had already completed 80% of the course!

His learning speed was against the sky. Other students, who were proud of their studying speed, looked at the free class leaderboard2if you are weirded about this, me too. Basically, there is a leaderboard for everything. Mostly for completion speed and/or high score., and ended up abused, crying, shouting, and cursing angrily – who was this ?? How could he learn so fast?? He must be a master who only came here to shoot fish in a barrel3bullying the noobs! Where was his conscience??

Qiao Zhiya, who was kicked off from the class, immediately felt drowsy. He took off his helmet and put it aside, then fell asleep with his head tilted.

He slept until the afternoon. The face of Ancestor Chu, who planned to take him to the ancient martial arts hall for training, turned black.

“What did I tell you yesterday, why did you stay up late?”

Qiao Zhiya obediently finished his lunch. He bowed his head and admitted his mistake, “I’m sorry, there will be no next time.”

Chu Rong rapped his fingers on the table in his irritation. He glanced at Qiao Zhiya’s bloodshot eyes, and frowned. He waved his hands as he spoke, “Finish your meal and go to sleep. Tomorrow is a school day, so you need proper rest. If this happens a second time, I’ll confiscate your helmet.”

Qiao Zhiya, who knew he was wrong this time, bowed his head and obediently listened to Chu Rong. He looked particularly pitiful despite his words, “I’m not sleepy anymore.”

His eyes were red like an albino rabbit now. And he dared to say he wasn’t sleepy?!

Chu Rong gave him a cold look. Without a word, he got up, picked him up, and stuffed him back into his bedroom.

Qiao Zhiya couldn’t fight back. He limply hung as he was carried, and went back to sleep.

After dinner, Chu Rong sent Qiao Zhiya back to school. The hover car stopped at the south gate, Qiao Zhiya stepped forward to hug Chu Rong, and whispered, “I will miss you.”

Chu Rong raised his hand and patted his head without saying anything. He opened the door and signaled him to get out of the car.

Qiao Zhiya looked at him reluctantly, lowered his head and got out of the car. As he  watched the car drive away, he felt a little lost – the White-Haired Monster seemed to be very angry this time. He didn’t even reprimand him.

Returning to the dormitory listlessly, he saw Sang Bu, his roommate who ran back-and-forth to his laboratory every day. The cold beauty sat in the living room, flipping through books. When he saw Qiao Zhiya coming back, he greeted him actively and “rewarded” him with some lovely pastry. Then, he returned to his room gracefully.

Qiao Zhiya took a look at the exquisitely packaged, high-end snacks he was given. He also remembered Sang Bu’s very deliberate, slow and “elegant” walking posture. The youth’s moody demeanor improved a little. He stepped forward to pick one pastry, pursed his lips and smiled.

The pastry was sweet.

After washing up, he went to the Internet again to continue his unfinished study yesterday.

It took him two hours to complete the rest of the junior courses. Then, he rented a junior laboratory for 500 starnet coins, and started to practice using materials and tools—fortunately, the data on the VR world were all virtual. So, all the materials and tools were very cheap.

But even so, his starnet coins were still quickly spent.

At ten o’clock in the evening, he quitted the Internet without further ado, took off his helmet and prepared to be a good student who took a break on time. But just as he closed his eyes, Chu Rong’s videocall request popped up. He was taken aback and quickly connected.

“Sleep.” As soon as the video was connected, Ancestor Chu’s chilly voice was heard.

Qiao Zhiya looked at his dark face, and the disappointment when he returned to school in the afternoon was swept away. He raised the corner of his mouth and raised a big smile, nodded vigorously and replied, “Well! I’m going to bed now. You also go to bed early. Good night, have a nice dream!”

After speaking, he took the initiative to hang up the communication, covered himself with the quilt, closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Chu Rong, who was hung up abruptly, froze. He looked at his communicator with a frown, then leaned back in the chair irritably. He subconsciously rapped the table with his fingers for a long time. Finally, he couldn’t rein his temper. He dialed Fan Xiangnan’s number, and as soon as it connected, he ordered, “Tomorrow, send me a starnet helmet. I want to modify it.”

Fan Xiangnan, who was changing into pajamas and didn’t know any context: “…”
