Character ListQiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

Qiao Zhiya hurriedly repeated what the teacher said about his patents, and looked at Chu Rong.

Chu Rong tapped his knees, but didn’t answer.

Chu Yan couldn’t help but sneered first, and he said with anger in his tone, “He is trying to rile you up. He probably hoped that you would retaliate to his untrue words, and with that, he can blow it out of proportion. Although the public will mutter something about stuffing a student into the school, it was still within… understandable range. However, snatching other people’s patents is different. That’s outright intellectual theft, a punishable crime. If this isn’t handled well, the Chu family will be sprayed1being scolded/berated. to death by all researchers. This teacher should be from the Xiang family. That family likes this kind of dirty tactic the most. So disgusting.” He curled his lips in disdain, his eyes full of disgust for the Xiang family.

“Xiao Yan.” Chu Rong called him and gave him a warning look.

Chu Yan immediately turned his head and closed his mouth tightly—he knew the truth that “disaster comes from one’s mouth” since he was a child. His elder brother taught him that even if he was dissatisfied in his heart, he could only express it with graceful words. He should rein his temper and not try to choke his opponent to death by his words. And his words just now had crossed the line.

During this period of time, Qiao Zhiya, who has often heard the grievances between the Chu and Xiang family, was a little depressed and distressed. He complained, “But how can I prove that the patent is mine? Or…or I will go get another patent again. That should prove my credibility, right? I recently researched a new mechanical design theory. I found that I have an axle processing method that can be used on the mecha, which may improve the flexibility of the mecha joints. But I hit a bottleneck because the production method is a bit complicated, and I haven’t fully understood the conventional method yet. I used an unusual alloy as the materials. The load bearing should be sufficient, but it needs further testing. Furthermore, I have an idea I wanted to test – I want to swap one of the metal-mineral mix to the secondary mutated red tin ore I made last time— err, what are you looking at me like that? Did I say anything wrong?”

Chu Yan couldn’t help but look at Qiao Zhiya with a gaping mouth. After the blond youth finished talking, he silently retracted his gaze, looking at the sky–

‘Qiao was super good at studying but… what the hell? I’ve been in school for how many years but my knowledge about mecha is inferior to his… Is this because my IQ is too low?? Do I actually have a negative IQ??’

“That’s right, it seems that Qiao has been working hard in school during this time.” Fan Xiangnan changed the hover car to automatic driving. He turned around and praised him with a smile, and then added, “It’s within your rights to not respond to that teacher. I think it’s a wise choice to leave him immediately. Qiao, you are getting better and better.”

If Qiao Zhiya argued with the teacher about this matter at that time, it was tantamount to giving an opportunity to the other party to make it into a big deal. If this happens, the Chu family will become very passive in choosing how to deal with this matter.

“It’s a good idea.” Chu Rong eased. Again, he patted Qiao Zhiya’s head, “After you go back, you can talk to Master Ren about this. Ask him to arrange someone to do the experiment for you.”

Qiao Zhiya was embarrassed by their praise. His ears earnestly twitched happily as he replied, “It’s good that what I said is useful, I didn’t think so much when I responded to the teacher… Then after this research is done, can it prove that the Chu family did not rob others’ patents to stuff me to school?”

He was an Exoplanet Native, and not a human. While he wanted to keep his true capabilities a secret, he also didn’t want others to think he was faking his strength. He was also indebted to the Chu family, so it was natural he didn’t want to be a burden to them. He needed to prove the authenticity of his patents. And as for the method, he could only think of this for the meantime.

“Using new patents to prove your past patents is a straightforward idea, but it was very effective.” Chu Rong played with the cute twitchy ears. Then, he narrowed his eyes, and changed his tone, “But… why do we need to prove it? “

Qiao Zhiya was taken aback and looked up at him.

Chu Rong lowered his eyes and looked at him, hooked his lips, and showed an unfathomable expression. With an airy tone, he said, “Your accomplishment is real, and that patent certification issued by the Federation is already the best proof.”

And now, what everyone doubted now was that proof.

Qiao Zhiya couldn’t understand what Chu Rong had implied. He only knew that somehow, he felt that the White-Haired Monster looked very handsome. He blushed a little as he suppressed the urge of hugging and rubbing his head into the older man’s embrace.

This thought was too embarrassing. He couldn’t help shaking his ears, lowered his head and tightened his face. Secretly, he took a deep breath to calm himself.

Chu Yan had been paying attention to their conversation. He finally understood what his elder brother’s cryptic words meant, so he explained it, “Qiao, have you ever read the words in your patent book? One of the printed words there is about the duration of the approval time. After all, a patent is not something that you apply for today and can be finalized tomorrow. It needed to be reviewed by professionals. Think about it, is it possible that during the time Erge was on his way back to the Capital Planet, he somehow had the thought and the time to search for a newly-minted patent, robbing it for a rescued Exoplanet Native who didn’t even know the lingua franca? Then, somehow, he thought of using the said robbed patent to send him to a very famous intermediate college branch of the Federal Military Academy? That sounds astronomically impossible. If this fact was spoken out loud, nobody would believe the nonsense the Xiang family was spouting, right? Looking at it from this angle, this stupid accusation has too many holes. It’s easy to refute.”

And actually, this move from the Xiang family looked like a not-so-serious attempt at targeting the Chu family. They probably saw a chance to splash some dirty water while they’re able. Especially since the  new round of parliamentary elections was coming, and Chu Huai was a popular candidate. Even if this scandal was small, it was enough to shake him up a bit.

But these explanations were too complicated – you need a solid background knowledge about the political landscape and the power balance of the Federation’s big family to understand it. Qiao Zhiya was very new to the Federation, so Chu Yan didn’t bother to explain this.

That’s what competition for power was all about. Any little thing could be used by the opponent to catch you, after all, a death by a thousand cuts was still a valid way to kill someone. For example, you could clarify the matter of patents afterwards, but the impact had already been caused, and the loss may have already occurred. The public at large might already have a negative preconception of the Chu family, and Chu Huai’s public approval might be lower than expected. With this, their enemy would have a victory.

If they wanted to solve this matter cleanly, they had to start with the other party’s goals. Qiao Zhiya’s enrollment and patents were not the main focus. He’s just a means to an end.

Although Qiao Zhiya didn’t hear the detailed analysis from Chu Yan, he already had an insight of what’s going on.

He sat in the back seat with a blank expression on his face. He was taken aback by the power struggle of humans, and almost doubted this world. Compared to them, he was the simplest creature in the world! Could he really adapt to this cut-throat environment?

“Don’t think too much, this matter is easy to solve, you can just concentrate on going to school.” Chu Rong raised his hand to stroke Qiao Zhiya’s hair, and said in a light tone, “It was still a baseless rumors now. As long as we deal with them in time, all the negative speculation will be gone. There will be no consequences.” After speaking, he looked at Chu Yan.

Chu Yan smiled triumphantly, and patted his chest: “Don’t worry, you can count on me!”

Qiao Zhiya came back to his senses, with doubts in his eyes – how would Chu Yan solve it?

A day later, he finally knew Chu Yan’s means.

Third Young Master Chu,  who seldom went out to cause trouble recently, took advantage of the weekend to go out again. There, he “coincidentally met” the Xiang family who was taking a new batch of sponsored students to the mall to buy mecha materials. With a righteous demeanour, he mercilessly scolded Xiang Kun. Very, very loudly.

To summarize, he basically had three points:

First: “Your Xiang family is shameless. You actually went to my Chu family’s mining planet to steal mines, and even captured underage slaves for forced labor! Your conscience is very bad! If my Erge hadn’t kindly taken in the underage slave and treated him properly, I’m afraid he would have died on that mining planet long ago!”

Second: “You (Xiang Kun) spread rumors maliciously in the school, causing a serious psychological harm to this simple-minded Exoplanet Native teen. Do you have a grudge on him or something? It’s not easy for a Recluse to live in the Federation. Why are you, a Xiang family who claims to love every student, so narrow-minded!”

Third: “Why is your Xiang family so vengeful? My Erge has already said that he will not care about the matter of Xiang family stealing mines anymore. But your Xiang family is still deliberately retaliating! It is that poor Recluse who was captured and enslaved by your Xiang family, and now, you are causing further hardship by accusing him of stealing others’ patents! How ignorant! You don’t even look at the approval time on the patent certificate!”

Finally, Chu Yan asked: “Do you think that Exoplanet Natives are inferior to us? So they can’t have skills that passed down from their ancestors? Because otherwise, you wouldn’t think that he is a thief! Is this how your Xiang family treats talented Recluses? They are called ‘Exoplanet Native’ because they are from a marginal planet, therefore, didn’t know our common tongue and had to adapt to live here! Are you implying that they are a bunch of incompetent idiots, and couldn’t possibly be a genius back in their home planet?”

After ranting loudly – and basically making these innocent Xiang family sponsored students into scapegoats by relation of Xiang Kun – Chu Yan pretended to be forced to run away, leaving a bunch of passersby in shock over his words.

Now they wanted an explanation of what’s actually going on!

These groups of sponsored students were just nobody in the Xiang family – the bottom of the bottom. They had never seen much about the internal matters of the Xiang family, and yet they were somehow accused by Chu Yan without any room for retaliation.

The rumor spread more quickly, and they were no longer limited to the upper circles. The public became a member of the discussion of this rumor.

The situation was reversed. This time, the target of the rumors was the Xiang family, and the Chu family basically successfully cleaned themselves up from any blame. They suddenly become a charitable family who kindly rescued the enslaved Recluses and took the initiative to help them apply for patents to take root in the Federation. People who felt that the Chu family was very distant due to their iron-blooded and domineering style, somehow turned around and thought that the Chu family was actually very kind and righteous.

The Chu family also explained with actions how to counterattack properly. It wasn’t to follow the opponent’s train of thought, entangle for a long time in a situation that cannot be explained clearly, and let the opponent’s “time lag” strategy succeed. The right way was to throw their version of the “truth” first, and drag the enemy into the muddy water! It’s better to turn around and blame them!

Then another day later, the public was talking about the public outburst of the Third Young Master Chu and the mine stealing incident of the Xiang family. Xiang Kun, who was overwhelmed by Chu Yan’s “splashing dirty water” move, approached Chu Yan on his own initiative. They met inside a mecha model shop and had a direct confrontation with him. They turned over all kinds of old scores, and finally got into a fight!

The public was happy to eat another mouthful of melons from these two young masters’ fight. About the truth of the matter? Well, it isn’t as entertaining as watching these two mortal enemies having a messy fight in public.
