Just so you know, a typical chapter in this series is about 7k-8k words. While in Fake Master, it’s about 4k-5k. No wonder translating this series feels like crawling at times,,,,

Character List

Qiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

Chu Rong: Marshal ML.

Ren Mo: aka Master Ren. A mecha master making full manually-piloted mecha.

Chu Yan: ML’s younger brother. Is the same age as MC, currently attending intermediate college.

Chu Huai: ML’s older brother, he’s in politics.

Gu Yan’an: Chu Huai’s wife. A doctor/physician.

Yuan Xiu: Chu Yan’s bestfriend.

On the balcony of the main house’s second floor, the Chu family watched this event going down. They collectively retracted their gaze, and looked at the sky with complicated emotions—

‘Lao’er really hasn’t been enlightened.’

‘Erge is so stupid.’

‘Hopefully the Second Young Master is not a fool and will make a proper move soon.’

Qiao Zhiya found that the Chu family members suddenly became more enthusiastic about him. Although yesterday they were also very enthusiastic, it was on a completely different level than today, as if a layer of gold had been attached to him.

After thinking about it, he guessed that their change of attitude was because he cured the White-Haired Monster last night. This made him more determined to treat the White-Haired Monster himself every week!

In the afternoon, everyone moved to the mecha training hall. Chu Rong took out his black mecha, and Chu Yan took out his silver-gray mecha. After doing a set of basic training moves, they stood in the battle arena.

Qiao Zhiya sat on the lifting platform. A protective layer of barrier was erected to protect the spectators. With bright eyes, Qiao Zhiya’s attention was glued onto Chu Rong’s very cool black mecha.

‘Last time I just took a quick glance and couldn’t see clearly. Now that I look carefully, that black mecha looks a thousand times cooler! Thankfully, my understanding of mecha has deepened, so I can judge his mecha with a more critical eye.’

For example, the golden pattern on the mecha body was made from a material extracted from space beasts. When applied to the shell of the mecha, it can deter and mislead the enemy’s spiritual power scan.

Probably aware of his gaze, the black mecha suddenly turned to the side. Qiao Zhiya hurriedly averted his gaze. After being found out, his ears honestly reddened and he was too embarrassed to turn back. He forced himself to look at Chu Yan’s silver-gray mecha instead.

Chu Yan’s mecha was smaller than Chu Rong’s. It had slender limbs to match its smaller frame. It didn’t look as menacing, if anything, it looked a bit inconspicuous.

“Xiao Yan’s mecha is custom-made. It prioritized nimbleness and speed to match his preferences in fighting.” Chu Huai, who was sitting next to him, explained as he pushed a plate of dimsum in front of him.

Qiao Zhiya came back to his senses. He thanked the eldest Chu brother, suppressed his over-excited emotions, and concentrated on waiting for the match.

After both parties got ready, the silver-gray mecha pulled out an energy blade, disappeared in place and left only afterimages. When it appeared again, it had already attacked the black mecha.

The shumai Qiao Zhiya had just picked up dropped back into his plate. His eyes widening at the unimaginable speed he couldn’t properly see.

Seeing this, Chu Huai showed a satisfied smile, and said, “It seems that Xiao Yan gained a lot from the experience during the holiday. He is faster again.”

Gu Yan’an, who was quietly accompanying him, nodded with a smile, agreeing with her husband’s statement.

The silver-gray mecha attacked fiercely, but the black mecha stood still. Then, when the silver-gray mecha approached, it slowly raised its hand, and directly blocked the tricky strike of the silver-gray mecha with its arm..

“Boom!”

The energy blade collided with the black mecha’s arm, making a piercing metallic sound. In response, the black mecha mercilessly raised its foot, as it was about to kick the silver-gray mecha.

“Erge! My end-term examination is near! Don’t destroy it or I can’t fix it!!!”

Chu Yan’s voice came from the silver-gray mecha, and at the same time the black mecha quickly flashed to the side. The black mecha paused, retracted its leg and did not kick him. He also dodged to the side, and then an impatient voice came out, “Come again.”

Qiao Zhiya’s eyes fell on the silver-gray mecha. The energy blade was made using minerals that resonate strongly from spiritual energy, thus it would amplify its reactions. However, those materials couldn’t be used in thermal weapons1aka hot weapons. Any weapons that use gunpowder.. A good mecha master could greatly improve the energy reflection of the energy blade, allowing the energy blade to exert greater power when attacking, and he just learned this part recently.

Judging from its appearance, the energy blade in Chu Yan’s hand should be made of the highest-grade gray snake ore.

Although colloquially referred to as an “ore”, it’s actually the bones of a high-level beast, the Gray Snake. Gray snakes were mostly born in areas with strong radiation, like the M76 planet, and live underground. They were not venomous, huge in size, omnivorous, and aggressive. Its whole body was full of treasures, the most valuable being its bones.

And to make the gray snake’s bones into a weapon, the process steps required were also very complicated. It’s not something you could succeed at the first time trying. He suddenly remembered the situation and production process when he dealt with the mutated red tin ore last time. Though this also brought out the unpleasant memories of being enslaved in the mines. He whipped his head, trying to forget it.

In order to ensure the safety of the students, the use of thermal weapons was banned in school competitions. Each student was only allowed to equip one cold weapon2In comparison, this refers to anything not using gunpowder, but also made of metal. So, things like crossbows couldn’t be categorized as cold weapons. on the mecha, so the performance of cold weapons was particularly important in the competition. Maybe he could help Chu Yan improve the performance of the energy blade, so that Chu Yan might be able to get a better ranking in the final competition.

While thinking wildly in his mind, there was a sudden “clang” sound from the field, and the energy blade in the silver-gray mecha’s hand was actually cut in two by the black mecha.

“Ahhhhh!!” Chu Yan immediately collapsed, manipulating the mecha to pick up the broken energy blade, crying loudly, “Erge!! I said that the end-term exams are soon! Why on earth did you break my weapons!!! What will happen to my exams!!!”

Chu Rong didn’t expect that to happen. He was distracted by thinking about that stupid Bald Chicken, and he accidentally broke Chu Yan’s weapon. He retracted his attention and apologized, “Sorry, I’ll take you to buy a new one later.”

“I want two weapons! I also want two mecha models!” Chu Yan immediately sat on the ground and raised the price, taking advantage of this situation.

Chu Rong didn’t speak, just manipulated the black mech to turn his head to his side, and raised his hand.

“One! One weapon! But you have to give me two mech models, don’t be so stingy!” Chu Yan immediately stepped back, very spineless.

The black mech waved his hand, agreed to his request. Then the black mecha stopped in place. The cockpit opened, Chu Rong emerged from the inside, looked at Qiao Zhiya who was lying on the protective cover and staring directly at the energy blade. His brows furrowed again as he beckoned, “Come here, let’s go buy a mecha model.”

“Can I go too?” Qiao Zhiya immediately moved his gaze to him, and his eyes lit up.

Seeing Qiao Zhiya’s gaze shifted, Ancestor Chu was finally satisfied, nodded and said, “Yes, but only two models are allowed.”

Qiao Zhiya quickly waved his hand and said that he didn’t want models, as long as he could follow along to see the store that sold energy blades.

Hearing this, Chu Rong’s expression became more gentle, and he took the initiative to say, “Then I will buy some materials for you first, and I will buy the model next time.”

Chu Yan who just jumped out of the mecha: “…” Ah! He is so jealous! Jealous to death!

Saying goodbye to Chu Huai and Gu Yan’an, Chu Rong went outside with the two juniors.

In the car, Qiao Zhiya walked up to Chu Yan, stars glittering inside his green eyes, “Xiao Yan, what will you do with your broken energy blade?”

Glancing at his erge, he complained, “That energy blade was custom-made for me by Master Ren, and it’s troublesome to repair. I’m sure I won’t be able to catch up with the final competition. The weapon I’m used to is broken. My combat effectiveness in the competition will probably drop by 30%!!”

Chu Rong ruthlessly exposed Chu Yan’s exaggerations, “You said the same thing when your dagger broke last time, and then you put the dagger away on the second day after you got this energy blade. Not long after that, you forgot all about your dagger, and didn’t care when it broke when you spar against Yuan Xiu.”

“B- but this one is custom-made! Made-to-order!” Chu Yan retorted, never admitting that he likes the new and dislikes the old.

Qiao Zhiya, who probably heard the status of the energy blade, moved forward again, tugged on Chu Yan’s sleeve, and asked carefully, “Then can I try to repair that energy blade? Although your energy blade is already a finished product, and has already been combed by other manufacturers with spiritual power… well, it means it cannot be mutated again to improve its performance. What I’m trying to say is that with my fire magic array, the melting and repair of weapon will be much faster, and I found that the magic array can partially improve the performance of weapons. So are you willing to let me try? Of course, it doesn’t matter if you don’t want to, I haven’t done this before, and I haven’t done it yet—”

“Eh, just take it.” Chu Yan simply threw the space button with the broken energy blade to it. He nonchalantly added, “If you want to fix it, you can fix it. Anyway, I’m going to buy a new one now, right, ge?”

Chu Rong rarely indulged in this embarrassment of a brother. But this time, he nodded and said, “I’ll buy you a new one.”

Glancing at Qiao Zhiya, he added, “Two.”

Chu Yan’s eyes lit up when he heard that, and then he became indignant—erge was really biased, and he was not allowed to ask for two before!

Unexpectedly, the exorbitant request he made would be immediately agreed. Qiao Zhiya felt warm, held the space button tightly, and promised, “I will fix it properly! I will definitely fix it for you!” This was the first time he handled a real mecha weapon. He must do well, and must not disappoint Chu Yan’s trust in him!

Seeing his blushing face full of fighting spirit, Chu Rong curled his lips, and reached out to stroke Qiao Zhiya’s bangs.

With Chu Rong’s capital, he could buy these juniors many mecha weapons without sweating. Chu Yan knew this, so when they arrived at the shop, he didn’t hesitate to pick two of the most expensive energy blades, he even picked one that had hidden weapons inside of it. Qiao Zhiya obediently didn’t ask for anything, but looked around curiously and gained a lot of knowledge. In the end, Chu Rong took the initiative to buy him a batch of elementary materials, saying that they were for his practice.

After buying the weapons, the three of them went to the mecha model shop again. Chu Rong bought two models for each of the two younger ones, and then brought them home.

After dinner, the old butler said that the new room had been cleaned, and Qiao Zhiya didn’t have to squeeze with Chu Rong anymore. Chu Rong paused when he got up, didn’t say anything, and went for a walk in the yard with everyone to calm down as usual. While Chu Yan pulled Qiao Zhiya to the back, lowered his voice as if they wanted to share secrets.

Chu Rong and Chu Huai went to the study to discuss things, Chu Yan took Qiao Zhiya to study the mecha model, Gu Yan’an and the old butler went to discuss the usual management of the main house. They all did not gather together again.

It was very late after talking with Chu Huai. Chu Rong glanced at the room next door that had been sorted out for Qiao Zhiya to rest. He went up to knock on the door, but was afraid of waking him up. In the end, he went back to his bedroom with a frown.

There was a small, dim light inside his bedroom, but it was enough for Chu Rong. He went directly to the bathroom, and came out wearing only a bathrobe after taking a shower.

While wiping his hair, he walked to the edge of the bed and sat down. He stretched out his arms and turned off the small lamp beside the bed, threw away the towel for wiping his hair, took off his bathrobe, lifted the quilt and lay down on the bed… Then his body tensed up quickly.

——The quilt was warm. And lumpy.

He finally registered a shallow breathing sound from inside the lumpy quilt. The mattress moved, and a small body huddled in the corner rolled closer to Chu Rong, as if sensing a familiar presence. Without any shred of shame, the lump rubbed to Chu Rong, then a thin limb stretched out from inside to hug his waist. Not content with this level of clinginess, the Bald Chicken’s blond head poked out of the quilt, then inched closer to Chu Rong’s lap.

The sound of heartbeat and breathing became too clear. It echoed inside his ears, and it traveled far down into his heart.

Chu Rong, who was almost naked, immediately stretched out his arms to grab the man in his arms. He covered up his temporarily blank mind with anger, shook him vigorously, and asked with a growl, “Qiao Zhiya! Why are you here?”

Qiao Zhiya, who was shaken violently, opened his eyes and looked at him in a daze. He was still half-asleep and didn’t register what Chu Rong said. Instead, he hugged the older man even closer, and even put his head in the crook of Chu Rong’s shoulder.

Chu Rong didn’t give up. This was improper. He must be too tired from today’s exercise and shopping trip, but still.

He let go of Qiao Zhiya’s collar he held, the veins on his forehead popped up and down, and the muscles on his body were almost stretched out of irritation. He pulled him out again, and said, “Go to sleep next door! That’s your room.”

“So noisy. Shut up.” Still half-asleep, the good-tempered Qiao Zhiya also started to lose his temper. He couldn’t help reaching out to pat him, and hugged him harder, and said anxiously, “I want to sleep next to you. Don’t bother me.”

Ancestor Chu’s hands froze, and his strength loosened, allowing the clingy blond to stick to his body again.

Five minutes later, Qiao Zhiya fell asleep again, but Chu Rong was still sitting with stiff muscles. Another five minutes passed, and Qiao Zhiya began to move uncomfortably—Chu Rong’s muscles were too hard to sleep comfortably on.

Chu Rong’s patience was at its limit, but he managed to swallow it down. He took several deep breaths before he moved. With a dark face, he raised his arms around Qiao Zhiya, and stroked his hair in comfort. He laid down next to the youth, covered them up with a quilt, then closed his eyes.

‘It really is troublesome to raise a child!’
