Character ListQiao Zhiya: Half-elf, half-dwarf MC.

In the end, Qiao Zhiya waited for the announcement of the entrance exam, and tried his best to dodge every attempt of the bearded teacher in asking for his real name. The bearded teacher thought he was afraid to shame himself if he failed to be admitted, so he did not continue to ask.

At the end of the morning class, Qiao Zhiya’s good mood was completely gone. His mind was chaotic, not knowing what to do.

Chu Rong reached out and swept his bangs, then met his gaze. Seeing how downcasted he was, he asked, “What’s wrong?”

With flattened, quivering ears, it’s easy for Chu Rong to see his mood. He nuzzled against Chu Rong’s warm fingers, and simply repeated what the bearded teacher had said to him, expressing his guilty confusion and distress.

“Federal Military Academy teacher who has been resting for two years due to injury?” Chu Rong’s reaction was somewhat strange. He raised his eyebrows slightly with squinted eyes. After recalling things about teachers, he assured Qiao Zhiya, “Don’t worry, just tell him straight after passing the exam. It’s okay to meet and reveal your identity. Your teacher is not a bad person.”

“Wait, huh?” Qiao Zhiya nodded then looked up at Chu Rong with blank eyes. He understood each word Chu Rong said, but when those strings of words combined, he became confused. “W-wait, does this mean… you know his identity?”

Chu Rong nodded as he picked up a dish with his chopsticks. “If it’s the person I guessed, then he’s completely safe. Don’t ask me about his identity, you can ask him yourself. Eat, don’t be picky.”

“I’m not picky…” Qiao Zhiya whispered as he picked his food in small bites. His mind was filled with questions and unquenched curiosity, but he was obedient enough not to ask Chu Rong more about the bearded teacher.

Since it’s someone Chu Rong knew, then the bearded teacher was definitely someone decent at least. But… maybe… he was Chu Rong’s teacher in the past? That’s why he knew and could vouch for his personality?

During class in the afternoon, Qiao Zhiya wanted to observe the appearance of the bearded teacher secretly, and compared it with the public information available. However, he found that his facial features were hidden behind his thick beard, and besides his red eyes, he couldn’t observe anything. Plus, there’s a chance that his online avatar didn’t match with his real-life appearance…

“When will your last two theoretical exams be held?” The teacher asked suddenly.

Qiao Zhiya reflexively replied, “Tomorrow.” After answering, he looked back and saw the bearded teacher looked at the youth with a hint of disapproval. He panicked, and picked up his textbook again, apologizing for his negligence. Then, he continued to concentrate on studying the lecture given.

The next day, Chu Rong went back to the military department, while Qiao Zhiya went to school with Chu Yan to take the last of his theoretical exams.

“Hahaha, she deserves it!”

Chu Yan laughed as soon as he got in the car. He used his photon computer to access the forum, and pointed out one of the posts with visible glee. “The Imperial Princess made a blunder yesterday. She ran into the military, but she was caught directly by a soldier who did not know her identity, and was almost locked up for questioning. Fortunately, the president’s son, Long Xuyang, passed by and recognized her. The poster is really good at weaving a story out of this, and it became viral as a result. But sadly, it seems that Miss Protagonist had caught wind of this post, so this should be deleted soon.”

‘Imperial Princess?’

Qiao Zhiya’s ears twitched at the mere mention of her, and he immediately zoomed in on the forum. He saw the “love at first sight” posted on the forum’s homepage yesterday had been sunk, and was replaced by the “romantic” encounter of a certain Princess AL and Noble Son XY1I paraphrase it so it’s easily understood in English. The original is “Princess A and Prince B”. Xuyang is the President’s son, so he’s not a prince in the royalty sense..

This generation of netizens truly had a wild imagination.

Knowing that he was interested, Chu Yan narrated in more detail despite the trace of hesitation in his heart: “Yesterday, Yuan Xiu went directly to the military department to find his dad after the training, and saw a little bit of this event. He told me that the Princess even disguised in a male soldier’s uniform… putting aside the whole “crossdress play” accusation, she… Hahaha! She was wearing a white uniform, which is the Xiang family’s military uniform! It’s so stupid that she wore that uniform when trying to get close to Erge in the Chu family’s territory!! It was so hilarious.”

Qiao Zhiya was tense. His upbringing told him that it was wrong to laugh at a girl’s humiliation like that, and gloating over her misery was also frowned upon. But his mood was definitely uplifted by miles. In regard to Chu Rong-related news, it seemed that he had become more machiavellian.

“I think this Princess probably watched too many idol dramas and got brain damage because of it. Her mind is nothing but romance fluff. I saw her and Erge during a friendly exchange between the two civilizations seven or eight years ago. At that time, Erge defeated the Empire’s number one mecha warrior. The princess was only a little over ten years old, so I don’t really believe it to be love at first sight as she claimed. Though, I can understand her a bit because Erge in his early twenties was incredibly handsome!”

Once Chu Yan said that, the topic shifted into some tidbits of the past, making Qiao Zhiya curious. Chu Yan graciously opened up his communicator and flipped out some of the old photos to show his blond friend. “Qiao, you must not have seen Erge when he was young. While he’s not really that old now and only a couple years older than us, the difference is still quite big. In short, he was a fresh-faced handsome young man back then! Much, much cooler than now!”

He projected the old photo, and Qiao Zhiya immediately took a good look at it.

It was a picture of the three brothers. The background was the living room of the main house of the Chu family. Chu Huai, in his early twenties, was standing behind the sofa. Chu Yan, a little radish head, held his hand beside him. On the sofa, sat an impatient white-haired boy with a wrinkle on his forehead, looking focused. His white hair was messy as it clung to his forehead. His eyes were full of pride, like a beautiful proud young lion.

“Well, Erge was angry during that fight, and only Father could hold him back…” Chu Yan said, his eyes drifted away, and he quickly turned back and took the photo down. “Look at this, this is Erge during his first fight in that exchange with the Empire. Isn’t he handsome?”

New photos slide over.

This photo was obviously a sneak shot, and it was taken from relatively far away. Only a slender figure wearing training clothes facing the camera can be seen.

Chu Rong, who was still a young man, stood in front of an unfamiliar black mecha. In front of him, lied a scrapped red mecha, likely trashed due to his effort. His white hair was soaked with sweat, and a few strands were stuck on his forehead and ears. His expression was tight and indifferent, his eyes drooped slightly, covering the turbulent emotions inside.

He was really handsome, but far too thin.

Qiao Zhiya’s intense focus was due to this. Chu Rong’s cheeks were a bit gaunt, making his heart feel sour.

“At this time, Erge was actually about to enter a spiritual riot, but he kept on until the previous President Rory left after he gave his speech…”

Chu Yan sighed, and found that the old photos only made the mood more somber. He simply put the photos away and put his hands on Qiao Zhiya’s shoulders. He said, “That’s why, it’s a miracle that Erge’s spiritual sea can heal. Seeing him laugh happily like last time shocked me…. Qiao, once again, thank you very much.”

Qiao Zhiya tilted his head, only to see Chu Yan’s expression matched Chu Rong’s. His emotions collided, and he suddenly wanted to rush to the military to hug Chu Rong.

How terrible the battle was then. In just a few years, the young Chu Rong, who was once as motivated as Chu Yan, has become what he is today.

There was also the empty main house of the Chu family. With so many buildings, there must have been many people in the Chu family once upon a time. But now, there were only these three brothers and Gu Yan’an…

They spent the rest of the journey in complete silence. Chu Yan and Qiao Zhiya’s examination room were on different campuses, so they left after entering the school gate.

Qiao Zhiya took out his school’s hover car in a spirited manner and drove towards his school district. His mind was in a mess, and it was not until a white car arrogantly blocked in front of him that he finally recovered and stopped the car.

“Hey! What are you doing! Have you forgotten all the safe driving rules!” Yun Xiachu poked his head out of the white car in a rage.

The passing students heard the sound and thought that there was a conflict here, and they turned around and looked at it. Seeing that it was only Yun Xiachu, they turned back again. At this point in time, Yun Xiachu’s temper had spread. At school, they dare not mess with this “short-fused bomb” whose background cannot be found.

When Qiao Zhiya saw him, a smile appeared on his face, and he got out of the car and stowed it aside. He walked to Yun Xiachu’s car, and invited himself in, saying, “Send me to the school building. I’m going to be late for the exam.”

“You, who asked you to sit in!” Yun Xiachu raised his eyebrows, but did not kick him out. He started the car obediently and drove for a while, then suddenly said, “I have finished the exam.”

Qiao Zhiya turned to look at him.

Once he started to talk, Yun Xiachu actually found it hard to actually speak. After he glared at Qiao Zhiya, he dully said, “I’m going home today… Don’t think I’ll bring you a souvenir  this time! I’m not going to cheer for you! Also, after going to the Federal Military Academy, you are not allowed to be reckless, jumping blindly. You’re not a flea, you know!”

Qiao Zhiya only smiled, and took out a small pendant with a Disc Stone centerpiece from his storage ring and said, “Here, I found this mineral during Xiao Yan’s graduation exam. I heard that this mineral has a good effect on your spiritual strength. Carrying it with you also brings good luck. “

“Humph, this is just superstition, how can a broken stone bring good luck?” Yun Xiachu said as he quickly took the pendant. He removed the Disc Stone from the center of the pendant with a squint. He snorted and said, “This stone is very valuable. If you give it away, you will not be allowed to ask for it back. I will not return it.”

Qiao Zhiya couldn’t help but raise his hand and patted Yun Xiachu’s head.

“Don’t mess around, take your hands down!” Yun Xiachu was angry again. He shook off Qiao Zhiya’s hand, turned his head, and continued to drive.

After that, Yun Xiachu only concentrated on driving safely. Even though Qiao Zhiya murmured to himself, he didn’t reply to him. Once he parked the car downstairs, pretended to impatiently say, “Get out of the car now. You’re way chattier than my Mom.”

Qiao Zhiya stopped talking, rubbed his hair again, turned around, and got out of the car. As he waved his hand at him, he entered the exam building.

“Wait a minute!” Yun Xiachu poked his head out of the car with a complicated expression. Finally, he somehow got angrier. “Once you attend the Federal Military Academy… don’t you dare get bullied again! Fo-forget it, no matter what you do, I’m not going to care!”

He then slammed the car’s door, and drove away before Qiao Zhiya could reply to him.

Qiao Zhiya watched him leave with a smile. But as he was about to enter the building, he saw Ning Kongran popping his head from the railing on the second floor. He raised his voice to greet him:  “Kongran, why are you here? Do you have an exam too?”

Ning Kongran retracted his peeking head and looked at Yun Xiachu at the distance. He bowed his head and smiled at him, took out a box of snacks from his space button and threw it at him. With a waving hand, he shouted back, “Here, for you. Good luck on your exams!” Then, he left.

Qiao Zhiya caught the snack and watched his figure disappear, wondering, ‘So he came here only to give me a snack?’

The theory test was very simple. Qiao Zhiya passed it with full marks, and then said goodbye to the fifth-grade classmates who he met in the classroom for the first time.
