The night gradually deepened, and the people who came to visit came and went. After the ward was completely quiet, Jian, who had been pretending to sleep, opened his eyes and looked at the nurse who was guarding the corner without any sense of presence. He said, “I’m not talking nonsense, can you stop releasing the soothing medicine?”

This kind of medicine was nothing to normal people, but for a weak person like him who has just experienced a near-death experience, it’s enough to make him unable to sleep.

The ordinary and harmless-looking nurse raised her gaze at him as he spoke. Then, she got up and turned off a small device in her pocket. As she walked to his bedside, she reached out and pushed the operating device next to the bed a few times.

A protective cover slowly rose on the hospital bed, covering Jian completely. Jian looked back and forth curiously, asking, “Are you a person from Marshal Chu? Is he going to kill me?”

The nurse looked at him again. She suddenly threw him a communicator that was flashing, then completely turned off the protective cover. It adjusted into opaque mode, and walked to the door of the ward to guard.

Jian glanced at the dense protective cover around him. As the communicator connected, he saw Chu Rong sitting in a heavily decorated study.

He struggled to sit up – he didn’t like to be loomed upon when they were negotiating.

“Your father’s name is Feng. He appeared in the Empire twenty years ago. He was once a good friend of the current Emperor’s second brother1clarity: so, the current Emperor has two (known) younger brothers: Prince An Xei and Prince An Lunn., Prince An Lunn. After the great war ten years ago, he was specially conferred the title of king because of his meritorious service in helping the Emperor and the people,” Chu Rong closed the information in his hand, looked at Jian with a calm expression, but the tone of his voice was rather fierce, “But Prince An Lunn unfortunately died in that Zerg raid, with all of his guard with him.”

Jian’s pupils shook, but he suddenly laughed. “Marshal, why did you suddenly mention this?”

Chu Rong observed his expression, the corner of his mouth twitched while his gaze was still frosty. He put aside the folder and said, “Jian, there are only two ways in front of you now, take the initiative to shut up, or be silenced forever.”

His tone indicated finality.

Jian sighed regretfully in his heart, lowered the smile on his face, and resumed his usual expressionless look. “Marshal Chu, don’t be overly nervous, I have no malice towards Qiao Zhiya. On the contrary, I still rely on him to continue to live. Believe me, I don’t want people to discover his special power even more than you.”

“What do you know about it? And how do you know it?” Chu Rong was not fooled by him, and asked the key point directly.

This Jian was obviously coming for Qiao Zhiya, and all the clues point to one thing – this Jian has long known about Qiao Zhiya’s special power, and all he did was to get close to Qiao Zhiya and force him to save him.

The so-called “repayment” was probably another conspiracy. He hated the feeling of someone he cared about being so unscrupulously conspired on, even if it’s for his sake.

Jian was helpless, the man Qiao Zhiya was looking for was really reckless, and his patience has long turned thin. He didn’t want to negotiate anymore, he wanted to dominate this talk and force Jian to do his bidding.

Jian, meanwhile, just wanted to sleep.

“Marshal, you specifically mentioned Prince An Lunn, so you must’ve already guessed. Yes, there’s something fishy about Prince An Lunn’s death back then, and it had something to do with my father2he’s referring to the Imperial High Advisor, Feng., but I must state my position on this matter,” He compromised as he untied the hospital gown on his body. He wiped his thin chest, revealing a fiery red mark emblazoned on it. “Actually, I am the biological son of Prince An Lunn.”

Chu Rong frowned, his expression became serious.

Spiritual branding, a unique symbol of the Imperial family. It could only be passed on from father to child. The branding method was very special, and it’s only known to the main branch of the Imperial family. That’s why this mark absolutely confirmed Jian’s bloodline.

He did find out some information, guessing that the Imperial High Advisor might have betrayed Prince An Lunn back then, and helped the current Emperor get rid of the thorn of his eyes. However, he didn’t expect the facts to be far more complicated than he guessed. Feng’s son was actually An Lunn’s biological son, so there must be a hidden story behind what happened back then.

“Secrets are exchanged for secrets. Now the Marshal should believe my sincerity.” Jian wiped his chest again, and the mark disappeared. He fastened the button of the hospital gown again, looked at him, and said, “Marshal, what else do you want to say? If there’s none, then please let me sleep.”

“There’s one more thing,” Chu Rong leaned back in the chair and continued asking him, “What do you know about Qiao Zhiya’s power, how do you know about it, and what is your purpose?”

“…” Jian could only curse internally.

Even with such a shocking revelation, the Marshal hasn’t forgotten about this topic.

“It seems that you want to choose to shut up forever,” Chu Rong once again showed his extremely impatient side. He said irritably, “I don’t like the deviousness of you smart people. If I can, I prefer to use absolute strength and force to solve the problem. The Imperial High Advisor, that is, your adopted father, does not have any real power. It’s not difficult for me to kill such a person.”

Plus, unlike Jian’s rare SS-level spiritual power, the Imperial High Advisor only had an A-level spiritual power. On top of that, he had black hair and black eyes, signaling that he’s ethnically foreign within the Empire. It’s no trouble for Chu Rong to assassinate him.

Jian’s expression faded, and the faint aura of indifference that had been on his body also disappeared. He looked at Chu Rong with dark eyes, and there seemed to be a coldness flowing in it.

“Your mood now is my mood when you were scheming on Qiao Zhiya,” Chu Rong looked at him without giving way, “Jian, you should understand that a person who holds the Emperor’s power will be removed by him sooner or later. I don’t have to do it myself.”

Jian’s grip on the quilt tightened, he lowered his gaze, then looked up after a few seconds of silence. He then said, “My adopted father… Just like Qiao Zhiya, he also has special spiritual power. However, to use his power, he must consume his life force. A year ago, he figured out a way to extend my life at the cost of blindness.”

Chu Rong relaxed, his fingers tapping the desk in front of him. ‘The Emperor has been in poor health since a year ago. Jian also said his life was extended a year ago… such timing could not be a coincidence. So, the reason why the Imperial High Advisor can hold onto his position for such a long time must be because of this power. Is he trusted by the Emperor because he could prolong his life?’

‘And a year ago, for the sake of the adopted son’s life, the Imperial High Advisor chose to use his power on the adopted son and gave up the Emperor. Then the Emperor’s move to search for a pharmacist may not be a real pharmacist, but a substitute for the Imperial High Advisor.’

‘In this way, his position should no longer be stable.’

Various clues and speculations went around in his mind, and the coldness on Chu Rong finally calmed down a bit. He took out a small medicine box and put it on the table, and said, “Your adoptive father sent you here so you can find a way to extend your lifespan, and als to keep you away from the Emperor’s harm.”

Jian’s eyes immediately fell on the medicine box. After such medicine was used on him by Qiao Zhiya, he knew the meaning of this box.

“I can provide this to you, and let your adoptive father use this as a cover to continue to ‘extend your life’ for the Emperor. This can keep your adoptive father’s status and safety as the Imperial High Advisor.” Chu Rong threw out the bait, and seeing Jian’s eyes widen subconsciously, he knew that his guess was spot-on. He continued, “In exchange, I will put a spiritual lock on your brain to ensure that you will not reveal anything about Qiao Zhiya.”

“I promise!” Jian immediately agreed. Once his father came into the conversation, he lost his calm. He eagerly said, “As long as I can save my father’s life, I can promise you anything.”

Chu Rong was very satisfied with his reaction. He replied, “This is of course the best. In addition, I want to know the reason why Prince An Lunn was murdered by the Emperor.”

Jian trembled and pursed his lips.

“I only give you a minute to think about it. Everyone knows that my patience is not very good.” Chu Rong looked at him leisurely, and dialed the communicator on his wrist, “Time is precious, you should think clearly.”

Jian struggled. He looked up at him, his mouth opened and closed intermittently. After a minute passed, he said, “My biological father was killed by the Emperor when he was secretly investigating something. He suspected something about …black holes.  In fact, we prefer to call it a wormhole, and suspect that its appearance is not due to natural causes, but… man-made.”

As Jian’s voice weakened, Chu Rong paused. His expression changed suddenly, remembering the cause of his parents’ death. His spiritual power immediately surged. With a deep voice, he asked, “Do you understand what you are talking about?”

Jian blinked, looking at Chu Rong’s harsh glare. He raised his voice slightly and said. “How can I not understand? Marshal, haven’t you been investigating this all these years? Have you found out the clues to the ship that my biological father abandoned on the mining planet your family owns3yes, this is the planet Chu Rong met Qiao Zhiya back then. They got trapped inside a “foreign Imperial spaceship, most likely owned by the Royal Family”.?”

Finally, a thread end was pulled out of the ball of yarn. Chu Rong slowly relaxed his tightened palms, suppressing his spiritual strength. After some time staring at the black-haired youth’s face, he finally restrained all his bubbling emotions. “I need to talk to your adoptive father in person. The Imperial High Advisor must’ve known some things. I’ll contact you later.”

With that, the communication ended.
