On the sofa, Qiao Zhiya touched his belly and throat in a panic. He found that the warmth had completely disappeared, and the rabbits had returned to normal. He frowned, tried to mobilize his strength, and found that everything was normal.

–So, he became confused.

‘So what exactly is that item? If I eat that, will there be any problems? What if this is some evil thing that can manipulate other people’s brains and control me to harm Chu Rong while he is sleeping…’ He was so frightened by his wild guesses that his ears stood up. He looked back at Chu Rong, becoming more and more flustered, and hurriedly mobilized his magic power to do a full-body scan.

However, he still didn’t find anything wrong. He was so anxious that he began to regret that he had not told Chu Rong about the thin flake-item-thing before. Now he wanted to admit his mistake, but he was afraid of disturbing the conversation between Chu Rong and Chu Huai. After thinking about it, he simply stood up and hugged Chu Rong. He put the rabbit into the basket and ran out of the room, heading towards the medical room which was temporarily closed after Zhuang Yu left.

Chu Rong noticed his departure and thought he might have gone to get some snacks, so he just glanced at him and ignored him, and continued to talk to Chu Huai about the current situation in the Federation.

After arriving at the medical room, Qiao Zhiya turned on the testing equipment and checked himself. Then he took the test results to find Zhuang Yu’s assistant who was transferred to the guest house to take care of the Emperor for her interpretation.

Zhuang Yu had accompanied Chu Rong to the Empire and stayed in the Chu family’s warship, still stationed in the Empire. So, she had not returned. Before she left, she specifically asked her assistant to pay attention to Qiao Zhiya’s physical condition at all times, so the assistant’s attitude was very cordial when he approached her.

She took the test results, turned over them, nodded and said, “Well, you are right to take the initiative to check.”

Qiao Zhiya immediately became nervous. “Is there something wrong? For example, something foreign that mixed into my body?”

“So you also know that you haven’t eaten well during this period?” The assistant lady put down the test result. While Chu Rong and Zhuang Yu were not around, she boldly reached out and pinched his face, and lectured him in a gentle tone, “Look at your thin face. Remember to eat well in the future and don’t stay up late. If you keep going like this, you might get sick. Look at your weight. You’ve lost weight again. You can’t do this anymore.”

Qiao Zhiya was confused. He asked, “So I’m just losing weight?”

He spent the past month learning how to make magic puppets. He often relied on nutritional supplements for all his three meals, and at times, actually forgot to eat altogether. It was inevitable that he lost weight.

“What else?”

The assistant girl pinched on his ear again, waved her hand towards him and said, “No need to worry, you can go out and play. Jiejie still has something to do. Remember to ask the Marshal to prepare more delicious food for you. Eat well and be healthy.”

The inspection result came back in vain, and Qiao Zhiya was a little worried as he walked back. He even wanted to go to the Imperial High Advisor to ask, but he was afraid that he would be stuffed with something strange again, so he backed down silently and slipped back to the study to wait eagerly for Chu Rong to finish his business.

When Chu Rong saw him sneaking out and running back, still looking at him, he guessed that he was bored. So he quickly ended the conversation with Chu Huai, stood up, walked to him, and asked, “Bored?”

Qiao Zhiya hurriedly stood up to greet him, waved his hand and said, “No, it was me just now–”

The door was suddenly pushed open, and Gu Yan’an appeared at the door and said quickly, “The Emperor is awake.”

‘So fast?’

Chu Rong frowned, raised his hand to touch Qiao Zhiya’s head, and coaxed him in a low voice, “You play by yourself for a while longer, and I’ll go see the Emperor.” After that, he and Chu Huai hurried out the door.

Qiao Zhiya watched him leave, even more confused.

The Emperor did wake up, but he simply opened his eyes and talked some nonsense, and was not fully conscious. His illness was somewhat similar to Chu Rong’s. Both were affected by radiation, but the radiation dose they received was different, so it only damaged his physical body and not his spiritual power.

The Imperial High Advisor also rushed over after receiving the news. He took a look at the fat and old Emperor on the hospital bed and said, “He can’t die, at least not now.”

Of course Chu Rong knew that the Emperor couldn’t die now. In fact, he could die wherever he wanted.

–Just not in the Federation, in his Chu family’s territory.

Thinking of this, he frowned, took out a high-grade potion, poured it directly into the Emperor’s mouth. Then he motioned to Zhuang Yu’s assistant to come over for treatment.

The Emperor’s situation was somewhat repetitive, and it was not until dinner time that he completely settled down. Chu Rong returned to the main house, and Qiao Zhiya hurriedly greeted him. Just as he was about to speak, the butler came to call for dinner, so the whole family ate again first. After the meal, he stuck to Chu Rong returned to the room and was sent to the bathroom by Chu Rong before he could speak.

He felt that everything was a little weird today, as if everything was preventing him from confessing to Chu Rong. So he took a bath obediently and prepared to talk to Chu Rong when he went out. But after he went out, Chu Rong asked him to drink a glass of milk again. After drinking the milk, he didn’t know what happened, and he immediately felt sleepy.

“No, I have something to tell you…”

He struggled to open his eyes, too sleepy to speak clearly.

Chu Rong kissed his forehead, covered him with a quilt, surrounded him with spiritual power, and asked in a low voice: “Tell me what?”

“There is something strange… in my stomach…” He was too sleepy. After holding on to say what he wanted to say, his breathing slowed down and he fell into a deep sleep.

Chu Rong touched his face and looked at him quietly for a while. After the sedative took effect, he lowered his head and touched his forehead, and then used his spiritual power to reach out into Qiao Zhiya’s brain.

In his dream, a familiar sharp force floated over. Qiao Zhiya subconsciously wanted to use his magic power to rub against it, but found that the magic power seemed to have fallen asleep with him, too lazy to move.

‘So lethargic…’

He muttered, feeling that the familiar force was approaching him on its own initiative. He felt at ease again, and his consciousness drifted to a darker place.

Perhaps because of the long-awaited embrace and sleep, he had a dream that night. In the dream, he was just a little baby, living with his parents in the territory of the elves, and being carried around by his father every day.

Then the scene changed quickly. He had grown up a little, and his body was obviously smaller than other elf babies. He was often bullied. His father sighed more and more, and finally decided to take him and his mother to live in a dwarf village.

The scene changed again. For some reason, he and his parents failed to go to a dwarf village and continued to live among the elves.

He grew up little by little, and when he reached about his current age, a black hole suddenly appeared in the sky, and a strange ship emerged from the black hole. The ship’s hatch opened, and countless giant monsters that looked like bugs flew down and rushed towards the elves.

As the sun went down, the previously peaceful village became a hellscape. Various bodies of injured and dead elves scattered everywhere, blood pouring down the ground as if it was a red river. He walked through it in confusion and despair, looking for his parents, but suddenly the scene changed again, and he appeared in a laboratory-like room.

In that room, his limbs were tied. He was sometimes injected by an unknown agent, and sometimes, something was extracted out of his body. His captors were unknown people clad in sterile-white garbs. Around him, there were several other strange-looking people who were also suffering the same treatment.

Then there was an explosion, an earth-shattering one… and the scene flashed to when he was abducted by a group of strange people. Finally, he was stuffed into a dilapidated ship and transported to an unknown place.

There was a sudden stabbing pain in the depths of his brain, and the feeling of eating that strange flake-thing in the afternoon emerged again, and then slowly disappeared. He opened his eyes, was stunned for a second and then immediately sat up, holding his head in shock and fear.

‘What happened? How could I dream of these things that I had never experienced before?’

Of the things he dreamed just now, only the first few things from his childhood were true, and the rest were all false. It was as if someone had implanted a set of memories to his brain.

‘What exactly is going on?’

‘Wait, that flake-thing! It has a faint power fluctuation, so could those memories by Feng’s? But why did he put these into my mind, and changed the protagonist to look like him and let me dream about all this? What is the purpose of-’

“Don’t be afraid.”

His body was suddenly hugged very tightly. He was surrounded by Chu Rong’s smell, his back was patted comfortingly. His strange-toned voice came from his head, as if he was trying to conceal something.

But Qiao Zhiya, who was distracted, didn’t notice it at all.

“Did you have a nightmare? Forget it. It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. No one can hurt you anymore.”

His thoughts stopped and the fear in his heart disappeared. His mind was confused for a moment. Sleepiness suddenly surged up, and then he slowly closed his eyes.

As he was in a muddled half-asleep state, he vaguely thought, ‘What on earth was the Imperial High Advisor doing? What was the point of letting me have such a strange dream? Want to scare me? And the feeling when the thin flake disappeared, it was warm like a mother stroking the top of my head, so strange…’

The Emperor’s condition is caused by a huge amount of ionizing radiation in a short period of time, as a black holes do let out a fuckton of those. Simply put, the radiation can rips electrons out of its proper place, creating many free radicals, so it leads to many cell and DNA damage. Very fun indeed.

Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules that are highly reactive (very much can and WILL bond to a lot of things) and unstable (they do not like being in the structure they currently are, because of the “wrong” number of electrons). They’re formed when molecules or atoms gain or lose electrons. This results in an unpaired electron that can easily react with other molecules. These unpaired electrons don’t like being alone, so they search the body for an electron to pair with, which means, they will rip out the normal bond of molecules in your body for themselves, resulting in many damages.

Yes, “anti-oxidants” can fight those, by bonding with them. But not for radiation poisoning-level of damage.
