In the morning, as the sun rose up, Qiao Zhiya slowly opened his eyes. He raised his hand in confusion, touching his faintly buzzing head. ‘Strange, why did it seem like I heard Mom’s voice…?’

“Woke up?”

Chu Rong’s voice sounded above his head, prompting him to look up. Then, his wrist was gripped, as his body was gently pushed down. A familiar whiff of smell pressed against him.

Chu Rong’s eyes were filled with a sense of intimacy – his gaze was dark and hungry. The taller man then kissed him, separating his legs with his own knees. Chu Rong used his much-larger hand to slowly move down from his shoulder, to his waist, lifting his crumpled pajama up.

“Huh? Mhm…” He stared ahead, mind still buzzing. After gaining some clarity, his body stiffened, but it quickly softened as he enjoyed the kiss. His cheeks slowly turned red, while his mind was consumed by the simmering lust.

The two lingered in bed for a long time before getting up. By then, Chu Rong took Qiao Zhiya for breakfast, then went to practice. After the practice, they played with the rabbits until lunchtime.

Chu Rong, in a rare case of not being busy, accompanied Qiao Zhiya to enjoy a weekend holiday.

After lunch, Chu Rong took Qiao Zhiya to the side of the star net cabin.

“Just try your best.” Chu Rong squeezed his ears, bent down, and kissed him. “Go, I’ll take you out for dinner.”

Qiao Zhiya’s heart was warmed, knowing that Chu Rong was trying to cheer him up. He shook his head and replied, “No, I want to cook for you for today’s dinner instead.”

“Okay.” Chu Rong’s mouth faintly upturned. He patted his head again. “I’ll help you.”

Qiao Zhiya gave a smile in return and happily logged in.

Maybe, it was because his sullen mood was uplifted, but Qiao Zhiya played extremely well in this round of the game, and did not make any mistakes. It was the first time that he won all his games.

He was still in the player’s waiting room when he was finished, and it was still rather early. Since there was nothing to do, he simply logged in to his social media account and studied how to open a live broadcast.

He definitely wanted to talk about the Ning family’s dubious drugs, but he didn’t want to speak on the Chu family’s behalf, nor he wanted Chu Rong to say in his stead – he wanted to say it himself, in his own name.

He had his considerations for this decision:

First, should he act on behalf of the Chu family to intervene in the pharmaceuticals, it might lead to some negative reactions. He didn’t understand family struggles nor the political landscape that well, but he knew that rashly meddling with something involving the interests of the entire population, even if he was in the right, the process would definitely not go smoothly. With the upcoming presidential change, he didn’t want to affect the Chu family because of this.

Second, the issues with some pharmaceuticals that couldn’t be detected by existing instruments. He could detect those harmful substances because he has Qiuqiu and his own unique powers. Therefore, the points he brought up might not be very convincing and weren’t suitable for official channels.

Third, and most importantly, in case criticizing the existing pharmaceuticals led to some adverse consequences, he could also sever his connection to Chu Rong to save Chu Rong’s reputation.

Of course, he did not dare to confess to the last one with Chu Rong.

In addition, he was not prepared to simply ask questions – he also wanted to solve the problems.

Over the past year, he has successively developed many kinds of potions for various ailments, some could only be done by himself, and others could be mass produced thanks to Zhuang Yu’s efforts. He hopes that these potions can help more people, especially those who have inadvertently been poisoned by the Ning family’s drugs.

After his account was successfully applied before, Chu Yan immediately linked his account with his own social account, so he now has a lot of followers, saving him to think about how to attract viewers.

After confirming his decision, he logged out, and unexpectedly found that Chu Rong was waiting beside him while pouring over a file in his hand. A smile bloomed in his lips, and the youth rushed at him.

Chu Rong put down the file to catch him, then kissed his forehead.

The two made dinner together, and during the meal Qiao Zhiya carefully articulated his idea of wanting to talk about the drugs during a live broadcast.

Chu Rong looked at him as he talked. After Qiao Zhiya finished, reached out and patted his head, saying, “Just do what you want, I’m here.”

Qiao Zhiya’s ears fluttered happily. He leaned in on Chu Rong’s palm, then nuzzled it.

After dinner, they walked around the house to aid their digestion. Then Chu Rong sent Qiao Zhiya to the laboratory, before going to his study and took out a custom helmet. Chu Rong used that to log in to his anonymous side account to enter Qiao Zhiya’s live broadcast channel just opened.

The title of Qiao Zhiya’s live room is very simple and clear: “Pharmacy Class”. Because this is a stream that opened via his social media, there’s a prefix of his username before the title. Reading them together, it became “Qiao’s Pharmacy Class”.

All the fans who received the live broadcast notification were stunned for a moment before realizing who “Qiao” was referring to. What the “Qiao’s Pharmacy Class is Live” reminder represented, after coming to their senses, they hurriedly flooded into the live broadcast room.

The comment section has already been opened, so early viewers had already conveyed their confusions: [Why isn’t this a “Qiao’s Mecha-Making Class”? Why is this a pharmacy class? Is the title wrong?]

The comment area could be seen as a holographic projection for Qiao Zhiya. He was packing up the operating platform to prepare for a pharmacy demonstration, and had just seen this question. He looked at the live broadcast equipment flying directly in front of him and seriously replied, “Because today, I’m making potions and drugs, not mechas.”

After saying that, he paused a bit before adding, “If you want to learn mecha manufacturing, I will teach you some tips when I have time.” Then, he smiled at the camera.

He has watched the live broadcast tutorial. In that tutorial, they suggested that the streamer should be friendly towards their audience. He agreed with that, so he followed it.

The audience who had just entered the stream was instantly taken by his smile. Many commenters feel embarrassed by such an obvious answer.

As a star network celebrity and the fiance of a marshal, Qiao Zhiya’s popularity was terrifyingly high. Soon, there was an announcement on the Starry Sky Forum that Qiao Zhiya was going live, and fans even spent money to buy reminders from the entire star network. So, while Qiao Zhiya was organizing the control panel, the number of people in his stream had already exceeded a billion. The system had to open comment dilution for his live stream, otherwise, the comment section simply couldn’t handle the flood of people posting comments at the same time.

After feeling ready, Qiao Zhiya clicked on the camera, so the indoor picture changed. Except for the area where he was standing, all the walls changed into an appropriate virtual background, this time an auditorium like the one in the mecha manufacturing competition. The audience would be “seated” in the seating area, while Qiao Zhiya, the streamer, stood in front of the hall.

“Good evening everyone.” He greeted everyone and introduced himself, “I am Qiao Zhiya, the creator of the Stone Grass potion.”

In order to increase the persuasiveness and authority of his discourse, after consulting Chu Rong’s opinion, he decided to tell everyone his identity. Otherwise, everyone would doubt his credentials and thought that his conjectures were just baseless bullshits.

The audience fell silent for a moment, before exploding into a cacophony of exclamations.

From the holiday to the present, the Stone Grass potion has been officially released for several months. Because of its cheap price and excellent efficacy, it has officially become one of the people’s go-to choice for spiritual soothing. There is no way that people could ever mishear that name.

Today Qiao Zhiya suddenly went live with such a title, and everyone thought it was just a bored kid wanting to come up and play with the fans for a while. However, little did they expect that even before the live broadcast began, they would learn about such explosive news.

“This is the patent certificate and the trial certificate of the Stone Grass potion.” Qiao Zhiya did not wait for them to respond. He moved his finger to project the documents he said, then took out a few medicines and put them on the table, pointing to what he previously prepared.”Now, I’ll demonstrate and explain the basic process of drug-making for everyone.”

In this first lesson, he was going to start with the most basic and simple substances, and at most, only expose some problems that won’t shake the foundation of the Ning family. It was enough to shake everyone’s blind trust towards such drugs. This included discussing potions that were mislabeled and shouldn’t be considered as such due to marketing manipulation.

He took out several types of materials, explaining while using various instruments to process them. He then placed the refined medicine into a reaction apparatus. During the process of creating the medicine, he continued speaking, “Just like what you saw a moment ago, the energy-boosting drug that people often drink and commonly purchase is made this way – very simple, with no technical difficulty. Its raw materials include refined Baby’s Snare1…sorry for the weird names, none of them are real plants (i think, I baidu’d them all to make sure). 婴罗 (yingluo), which means “suffer, fall into a trap, metaphor for suffering”. Separately, 婴 means baby, so I combined them into Baby’s Snare (so it sounds similar to Baby’s Breath). Of course I didn’t use Baby’s Trap because baby trapping is a thing., Field Grain2田禾 (tianhe), which does composed of the word “field” and “grain”. I’m not creative., and Earth-Sitting Grass3土坐草 (tuzuo cao), I also translate this literally.. You should be familiar with these herbs because they are commonly used ingredients in confectionery.”

The audience only blankly stared ahead. Qiao Zhiya actually made medicines and potions. He also looked quite proficient with them, but this is not the point. The point is that… this is a very highly-praised medicine, the holy grail of energy boosting drugs. It’s actually made from these kinds of confectionery materials? Why does it sound funny?

“Ding” the reaction apparatus closed, and the drug was ready. Qiao Zhiya took the liquid, poured it into a vial, and placed it next to the unopened commercial energy-boosting drug bought earlier. Comparing the two, he said, “You can take a look. This is the commercial product, and this is what I just made. They look the same on the outside. If anyone wants to taste it, I can randomly select someone here and mail it to them.”

The audience was still a bit lost. The two liquids looked identical visually. They felt deceived!

Seeing that the audience did not want to test them themselves, Qiao Zhiya paused and continued, “As we all know, Baby’s Snare is a herb that is suitable as a houseplant. It releases a cool substance that makes people feel refreshed. As food ingredients, Field Grain and Earth-Sitting Grass can enhance this “refreshing” feeling. Of course, they also contain many sugars and can enhance the sweetness, so they are widely used for candy-making.”

The audience looked like they were gaining new knowledge.

“A lot of people are used to drinking a dose of energy-boosting drugs when they are feeling tired. I personally recommend that you try to stop this habit and save some money instead. If you feel tired, you can pluck a couple of Baby’s Snare leaves, wash them, then chew on them.” Qiao Zhiya suggested sincerely and took out a set of kitchen utensils. “Or, if you don’t like the taste, you can make them into a snack. Not only can you relieve your fatigue, it will taste good, and you can save money on top of that! Now, I will teach everyone my recipe of Baby’s Snare snack.”

The audience: “???” How did the topic get here?

Qiao Zhiya carefully made a snack with the leaves of Baby’s Snare. He also added a handful of Field Grain and Earth-Sitting Grass to improve the taste, then put the finished snack on top of a saucer, next to the two vials of drugs. He asked, “Now tell me: If you are tired, which refreshment will you choose? “

Presentation matters. Compared to the cold feeling of the vial of drugs, a warm, tasty snack is much preferable. Many of the audience sent Qiao Zhiya monetary gifts as a sign of gratitude.

“I will post the detailed recipe later on my social media accounts. If anyone is interested, you can learn; it’s quite simple.” Qiao Zhiya was very satisfied with their reactions and projected a list, saying, “These are other herbs with refreshing effects without toxic compounds in them. If you don’t like the taste of Baby’s Snare, you can try these.”

Even the taste has been taken into consideration, is there a more intimate and conscious streamer? The audience excitedly sent another wave of gifts.

Qiao Zhiya didn’t even know what those gifts were. He only knew that the special effects looked pretty. He thanked the audience, and quickly ended the live broadcast after giving a closing remark. He then logged in to his social media account via his photon computer, and posted the promised recipe.

After doing all this, he stumbled stupidly for a while, and then went to the Starry Sky Forum to see the public opinion towards the Ning family. He found that the scandal had cooled over, and not many people were interested in discussing it.

Sure enough, public opinion alone couldn’t shake the status of the Ning family. At present, the Ning family was  still one of the Four Great Families, although its reputation has slightly deteriorated. But he knew that the Ning family could rise again.

This was a really depressing fact. He wanted to open everyone’s eyes about the tight grip the Ning family had in the pharmaceutical area, even fooling the government. He wanted everyone to know that there are many problematic drugs.

But he knew that currently, those are not possible.

He can’t kill them in one hit. He had administered a slow-acting poison to them.

Then, his lab door suddenly opened. Chu Rong strode in, and immediately went to hug him.

He snapped back to reality, wrapping his arms around Chu Rong’s neck and leaning against him.

“Don’t worry, the Ning family has already paid the price. The position of the federal president is permanently out of reach for them, and the shops they closed won’t ever reopen. I will make sure they can never launch a new drug either.” Chu Rong reassured him in a low voice, as if he knew what was on his mind.

Qiao Zhiya straightened up, looked at him, nodded, and closed his eyes, leaning in to give him a kiss.

On the other side, the Ning family, who wasn’t paying much attention to the live broadcast, strangely noticed a significant drop in the sales of energy-boosting drugs. However, as these drugs were just one of the most basic and lowest-priced pharmaceuticals, the Ning family didn’t pay much attention to it. They currently had no energy to focus on the sales of such low-level products.

Soon after, they found that things were not right.

Another night, Qiao Zhiya started a live broadcast. He greeted the viewers who had come early, then, as usual, took out several drugs and a pile of materials, placing them on the table. After scanning the audience, he earnestly said, ‘Today, let’s get to know an intermediate potion – Stamina Conversion Agent.

And this will be the first time, after so many broadcasts on basic drugs, that he will touch upon a type of drug with severe side effects.

A PSA: this is a work of fiction, and the author never claimed to be someone with the knowledge of medicines!

The translator is also not a pharmacy student nor a doctor, so take me with a grain of salt.

Even if a drug’s composition sounds funny, please remember that they can react with other substances/your body and thus, change the properties of the substances (or even become a wholly different one). For RL modern medicines, I would suggest that you mostly trust them (never blindly trust anything), especially if they have gone through clinical trials. They’re very safe. It’s just in this novel world, the pharma is very, very corrupt and mired in conspiracy, so it can’t be trusted.

Also, many substances are destroyed by heat, so let’s just say that the energy-boosting compounds in those plants are thermostable so Qiao Zhiya can make them into snacks without lowering its efficacy. Also, many compounds can only be effective in a very specific condition, and can easily be destroyed during the digestion process. That’s why drug-delivery is a very finicky thing.
