The audience watched as they exchanged wave after wave of potentially decisive attacks, only to have each one narrowly avoided by the other, leaving only minor damage. They were on edge, feeling trapped in a state of suspense, their faces turning blue from holding their breath.

After more than twenty minutes of intense competition, Chu Yan finally finished his own battle and rushed over. Seeing that Qiao Zhiya was still in the midst of his match, and the situation was still tense, he became anxious and began cheering for Qiao Zhiya from the sidelines, injecting a bit of liveliness into the tense atmosphere of the match.

In the twenty-eighth minute, Qiao Zhiya escaped a barrage of attacks from Irene.

In the twenty-ninth minute, Qiao Zhiya tried to fight back, but was interrupted by Irene.

The audience subconsciously held their breath, and Chu Yan was so anxious he wanted to rush in to help Qiao Zhiya fight.

If thirty minutes of the countdown finished before a winner was announced, then the system will determine the final victory based on the total damage inflicted and the degree of damages suffered.

The current situation is that neither of their mechas has suffered significant damage, which isn’t enough to determine a winner. Therefore, the final decision will likely be based on the amount of damage inflicted. However, due to the nature of their weapons and attack frequencies, Irene’s use of the rapid-fire handgun would likely result in higher damage overall.

Qiao Zhiya’s arrows were all dodged by Irene in the end, each shot only scratching the outer armor of the mecha, so it wouldn’t be counted as much damage! But Qiao Zhiya was cleanly shot several times, so despite it not causing much damage, it would be counted higher!

Come on, come on, come on!

Chu Yan lay down on the protective barrier of the waiting area, and his face was a little distorted because of tension.

In the final ten seconds, Qiao Zhiya finally managed to evade Irene’s entanglement and shot out the last arrow. However, the audience couldn’t help but cry out in despair. Whether it was due to nervousness or a slip of the hand, Qiao Zhiya’s shot was clearly off-target. He hadn’t anticipated his opponent’s movement trajectory properly, causing the arrow to miss its mark!

“Swish!” The arrow flew swiftly towards Irene’s side. Seeing this, she deftly dodged to the other side, but her mecha suddenly paused in a strange manner. Then, it toppled over directly towards the direction where the arrow was headed.

“Pss—st!”

The sound of the arrow piercing through the mecha’s protective armor echoed, and at the same time, the system displayed the result: Irene’s mecha lost its mobility, and Qiao Zhiya emerged victorious.

The audience was stunned, and so was Chu Yan. The youth quickly snapped out of it, and jumped happily in place, while the audience looked at each other in astonishment.

‘What’s going on? Why did Qiao Zhiya win?’

Although they were somewhat biased towards him, the situation just now was too strange, as if Irene deliberately let the arrow hit her, losing the match.

And why did it result in a loss of mobility? It was just a shot to the shoulder; damage should have been calculated. Irene’s mecha shouldn’t lose mobility just from being hit in the shoulder; it’s not like it was struck in the power core area.

After the iron-grey mech fell, it remained motionless, giving the impression that it had indeed lost mobility. As speculation about possible “foul play” began to circulate among the audience, the cockpit of the iron-grey mech opened, and Irene stepped out. She looked towards the brown mecha, which had just retracted its bow, and raised her voice in frustration, asking, “Qiao, what did you shoot into my mech? It can’t move anymore.”

Upon hearing this, the brown mecha took two steps towards them, and then its cockpit opened. Qiao Zhiyajumped out from inside and replied apologetically, “It was a crossbow bolt. It seems to have slipped into your power core area. Is your mech’s structure different from usual? The crossbow bolt entered slower than I estimated.”

“It’s different from the norm, I did modify it a bit.” Irene shook her head as she answered, then continued with a smile, “Can you help me take out the bolt? Otherwise I will have to use a spare mech for my next match.”

Without hesitation, Qiao Zhiya approached and quickly climbed onto the iron-grey mech, taking out tools and swiftly removing its outer armor in front of the audience. From the power core area, Qiao Zhiya extracted a crossbow bolt, which was also deep brown and only slightly larger than a human palm.

The audience suddenly realized why the iron-grey mech really lost its mobility. That small bolt really burrowed its way to the power core, causing it to shut-down.

But then, they got confused again. When did Qiao Zhiya shoot this bolt? They didn’t remember Qiao Zhiya launching this kind of attack.

No one seemed to have the answer to this question. After removing the bolt, Qiao Zhiya and Irene hugged each other amiably. Then he retracted his mecha and went to talk to Chu Yan outside, while Irene turned back to speak to the referees. Afterwards, the three of them walked through the tunnel back to the waiting area.

“Huh, that Irene asked you to take out that bolt on the spot on purpose. She probably did that to prevent people accusing you on the forum.” Chu Yan put his arm around Georgia’s shoulder, speaking in a mischievous tone, suggesting a speculation, “She’s so caring towards you, could it be that she…”

Qiao Zhiya wiped the sweat from his forehead because of the long fight, and looked back at him with a simple look, asking, “She what?”

“…No, it’s nothing, she’s just a really good person.” Chu Yan swallowed his suspicion, and felt that it was better not to teach this kind of bad joke to a pure guy like Qiao.

Qiao Zhiya thought he was really praising Irene, and he nodded in response. “Mn, Irene is really great, she is a good opponent.”

After a few minutes of rest, the fourth round began. The system finally regained its conscience and matched Qiao Zhiya with a less capable opponent. Chu Yan felt relieved.

The morning half of the round ended successfully. Chu Yan scored 4 points and ranked in the top spots. Qiao Zhiya lost 2 matches and won 2. He scored an overall 0, placing him in the middle ranking.

During lunch, Chu Rong’s expression looked extremely unpleasant. He reluctantly let Qiao Zhiya help him change into a pilot suit, but didn’t say much. He simply accompanied them quietly for a meal.

At 1 PM, the afternoon session of the round began. Qiao Zhiya seemed to get into the groove. While he didn’t manage to OHKO his opponents, he succeeded in making sure all his shots landed. Moreover, he picked up a trick or two, realizing the need to inflict damage on the mechas, and began to use the small crossbow-like device on his wrist more often, despite it looking like a toy.

The questions raised by the audience after watching Irene’s match were finally answered in the later matches. Unlike when he kept his hand in the face of Irene, Qiao Zhiya used the crossbow more boldly in the following matches.

——The seemingly decorative small crossbow on his wrist turned out to be a hidden weapon. Moreover, the bolts appeared to be specially made, capable of easily penetrating the weak points of the mecha’s armor and infiltrating its interior. Once inside the mecha, the arrow would move slowly as the mecha operated until it reached a critical power zone, causing disruption.

During the afternoon matches, Qiao Zhiya used the small crossbow on his wrist to quietly sabotage the power structures of opponents’ mechs in the first 4 matches, whether it was blocking the limbs or the central position, leaving opponents helpless in defeat. However, in the latter 2 matches, it seemed that his attacking methods were revealed, and his opponents paid more attention to protecting the weak spots of their mechas, preventing Qiao Zhiya from using the small crossbow. Therefore, he resorted to a combination of wild close combat and precise long-range attacks, seizing the opportunity for a decisive strike and winning the matches.

At the end of the day, he scored a full 6 points, the same score as Chu Yan, who lost 2 matches in the afternoon session. They actually tied for 3rd ranking, entering the realm of  legibility for the play-offs.

After the competition ended that day, Qiao Zhiya was extremely excited, seeming to have come up with some new ideas. He went home, had dinner, and then locked himself in the laboratory, working until bedtime. He only reluctantly came out when Chu Rong personally went to fetch him.

On the second day of the round, the audience was surprised to find that Qiao Zhiya’s giant hammer had changed. The  originally integrated grip became retractable. When he pulled it, it revealed a slender long sword.

The opponent, who was originally planning to retreat after failing to land a hit, was suddenly stabbed by Qiao Zhiyasword, hitting a key joint area of the mecha’s waist. As a result, the opponent lost balance, and the mecha tilted back, meeting the subsequent blow of the giant hammer.

Victory, victory, victory…it was a series of continuous victories. In that day’s last match,  Qiao Zhiya finally met a very strong opponent – a veteran player who was ranked first on the scoreboard at the time and was known for his cunning tactics.

The opponent used cunning tactics against Qiao Zhiya, but he still had an ace up his sleeve. His giant hammer, aside from the long sword, could be further extended at the end of the grip, revealing a hidden short dagger inside!

The opponent obviously did not anticipate this, and was accidentally stabbed in the chest-abdomen area, specifically the connector between the cockpit’s input and the mecha. As a result, the spiritual connection snapped, and the mecha fell limply to the ground.

The battle resulted in another victory. That day, Qiao Zhiya cleanly won all his matches, all thanks to his brand new two weapons!

After the match, on the forum, there were one post after another discussing his hammer. After the mecha warriors analyzed and exclaimed, they came to the conclusion: Don’t mess with a mecha warrior who is originally a mecha maker, because they know all the hidden weaknesses of mechas that you don’t.

Looking at all of Qiao Zhiya’s performances in the qualifying round, they found that his attacks were particularly tricky. He wouldn’t destroy your mecha outright, but he would disable it in various ingenious ways, making it a sitting duck for him to finish off.

For example, in today’s last match, who would have expected Qiao Zhiya to suddenly draw a dagger and attack the connection between the cockpit and the mecha? He managed to hit such a hidden and hard-to-find spot with a single strike, showcasing his terrifying insight and accuracy.

They couldn’t match him. Qiao Zhiya’s victories were not based on overwhelming strength, but rather on his cleverness and deep understanding of mechas. The feeling of not being able to predict the opponent’s fatal weaknesses was truly terrifying.

Then came the third day, the fourth day… Qiao Zhiya actually broke into the top 5 of the total points as he kept winning more than losing. Even Chu Yan was two places lower than him, only staying in 6th. Moreover, this is already a good result that others have never imagined!

The audience is becoming more and more amazed and gradually realizing that this high-intensity combat seems to bring out Qiao Zhiya’s potential even more. His progress is evident, and everyone who has fought against him has become his teacher. He instinctively absorbs the strengths of his opponents and then incorporates them, further enhancing his own abilities.
