Caution: if you read this as it updates (so, 15 Feb 2024), this chapter ends with a cliffhanger.

Starnet audiences found that Cao Xia, who had been following the Third Imperial Prince, finally moved. He directly took out one of his most lethal artillery and fired at the platinum mecha protected by the other three mechas.

The hearts of the Federal audience were all on edge, while the Imperial audience first exclaimed in shock, then turned to anger—how could someone dare to blatantly target the Imperial Prince in such a high-profile broadcasted competition, following and ambushing him all the way! This was truly unreasonable!

Although this competition requires participants to attack and eliminate each other, it was too outrageous for Cao Xia to clearly target the Third Imperial Prince from the beginning!

This must be foul play! Something’s afoot!

Conspiracy! This is a plot against the Third Imperial Prince!

The Star Network was in an uproar, with all the dignitaries who were following this competition showing subtle changes in expression.

Fortunately, the Third Imperial Prince was alert and quick to react. Upon sensing the attack targeting himself, he immediately evaded it. Meanwhile, the three mechas guarding him also took action. Two of them swiftly moved to protect the Prince, while the remaining one unexpectedly aimed its weapons at its companions. At close range, it fired a shot that brutally eliminated one of the Third Prince’s guards, targeting the cockpit directly.

Oh my God!

The audience widened their eyes and shouted in shock – this is indeed a conspiracy against the Third Prince!

The Third Imperial Prince inside the platinum mecha seemed caught off guard by the betrayal of his guard. After a momentary pause, he turned and swiftly fled into the distance. Meanwhile, the remaining mecha that hadn’t been attacked reacted quickly and engaged with the traitor, attempting to subdue them.

Cao Xia missed a shot and put away his weapon and chased the Third Prince who fled.

The audience subconsciously leaned forward, staring closely at the movement between these mechas.

Qiao Zhiya, halfway through channeling his magic, sensed the sudden movement coming from the forest and turned his head to look diagonally ahead.

Ah!

A platinum-colored mech emerged from behind a cluster of trees, followed by a low, warm voice emanating from the mecha’s speaker, colored with a hint of urgency: “I am Imperial Prince An Mhu! Get away quickly! There’s an assassination attempt! A traitor has already injured one of my subordinates severely!”

Assassination?

Qiao Zhiya and Chu Yan were startled by the revelation, then they saw the gray mech emerging behind the platinum-colored one. Having battled with Cao Xia before, they immediately recognized the identity of the opponent, frowned, and hurried to protect the platinum-colored mech.

——The situation was currently being broadcasted live, and the Imperial Third Prince has already called for help. If they remain indifferent, public opinion will surely turn against them! Moreover, this Cao Xia was a participant from the Federation. If the other side is indeed an assassin, the situation will become even more complicated!

The two cooperated tacitly, Qiao Zhiya went to protect the Imperial Third Prince, while Chu Yan engaged with the enemy. As Chu Yan and Cao Xia fought, another three mechas emerged in the forest. THey raised their artillery and indifferently bombed them, no words were exchanged beforehand.

This is disastrous! The loud noise from the battle has attracted the attention of other hidden participants, prompting them to take action.

Qiao Zhiya pulled back the platinum mecha, and stared at Chu Yan, who was fighting with Cao Xia, with a tense expression.

The Imperial Third Prince, who was being pulled along, was deeply shaken inwardly — could this famed fiancé of the Marshal be a monster? He was able to drag his medium-sized mecha easily like this, preventing him from getting close to help Chu Yan in his scenario.

“Bam bam bam!!”

The noise of explosions surged and ebbed, overpowering the standoff, and the situation dissolved into chaos as the melee began.

Some took advantage of the chaos to rush out and engage with Ling Yingxu and his group, attempting to seize advantageous positions. Others circled around to the vicinity of Chu Yan and Cao Xia, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Some simply charged out, vigorously stirring the muddy waters.

Various forces clashed in the forest, including the spiritual energies of the participants. Qiao Zhiya’s magical detection became chaotic, and seeing Chu Yan increasingly embroiled in a precarious struggle with Cao Xia while dodging bombardments, Qiao Zhiya felt urgency. With a quick glance at the Imperial Third Prince standing dumbfounded, Qiao Zhiya immediately erected a protective barrier around him. Firing several arrows to drive away assailants taking advantage of the chaos, Qiao Zhiya then moved towards Chu Yan.

The Third Prince was both angry and anxious at the scene. ‘What are these participants up to? They’re just a bunch of lowly commoners causing trouble!’

The audience watched in shock as the chaotic scene unfolded on the live broadcast. They were bewildered by how the situation had escalated to this point. And those who were taking advantage of the chaos to launch sneak attacks left them questioning whether this was still a competition or something far more dangerous.

“Boom!”

Qiao Zhiya swung his giant hammer to intercept the fatal blow aimed at Cao Xia from behind, forcing him back, then swiftly triggered his small crossbow to block his escape route. With his sword drawn, he moved in quickly for the attack.

Cao Xia agilely evaded the hidden weapons and attacks, attempting to retreat.

But Chu Yan had somehow maneuvered to his other side, sandwiching him together with Qiao Zhiya.

On the other side, Ling Yingsu and his group finished off the two assailants and, upon seeing Qiao Zhiya and Chu Yan’s figures, immediately rushed over to help. The Imperial Third Prince also finally reacted, turning off the protective shield and joining the counterattack against the other assailants.

As a result, the situation evolved into a cooperation between the Imperial Third Prince, Chu Yan, Ling Yingxu, and their side, as they worked together to confront the remaining participants. The fire seed lay nearby, forgotten and unattended.

Cao Xia’s strength was indeed formidable, and Chu Yan narrowly avoided being injured in the cockpit once again. It was Qiao Zhiya who intervened at a critical moment, pushing Cao Xia aside and taking the brunt of the attack for him. Then, wielding his giant hammer, he launched a counterattack on Cao Xia, forcing him to retreat further away from Chu Yan.

“Qiao!” Chu Yan screamed, clearly very upset.

“Look for a chance to attack!” Qiao Zhiya reminded him, keeping Cao Xia stuck in the air.

On the other side, the muzzle of a sneak attacker suddenly aimed at Qiao Zhiya in midair.

All the audience were tense, their gaze darting back and forth between the various fights, unsure of which one to focus on. Their palms were sweaty with nervousness—this was exactly the kind of intensity they expected from a competition! Fight on! Fight on without cease!

“Ss—”

Amidst the sounds of mecha battling and weapons firing, there was a faint, strange noise. Qiao Zhiya’s ears twitched, and the unease he had suppressed due to the battle suddenly intensified.

“Ss sst—”

Ling Yingxu promptly halted the attack of the assailant, delivering a fierce kick that severely injured the assailant’s waist power zone, eliminating them from the competition and securely guarding Qiao Zhiya’s flank.

“Ss ss sst—”

The sound of the wind suddenly intensified, swirling up dust and smoke. The movements of Cao Xia’s mech faltered strangely, its body swaying as it narrowly avoided being struck by the giant hammer. The communication channel fell silent abruptly, with no more reminders from Chu Yan.

A piercing ringing sound erupted suddenly, accompanied by a vaguely oppressive atmosphere. A whirlwind materialized out of nowhere, descending from the sky to the ground. It swept through all the trees, carrying with it a mournful howling sound, before dissipating into the surroundings and swiftly converging back into the sky.

The sound of mecha fighting ceased, and the artillery fire also came to a halt. Cao Xia’s mecha, after a slight tremor, crashed heavily to the ground like a marionette with its strings cut.

The wind swept in, carrying leaves and pressing down, the light dimming imperceptibly. Above, clouds billowed and everything seemed like the harbinger of an impending storm.

Qiao Zhiya maintained his posture, hammer raised for attack, his heart slowly quickening its pace. The previously lurking sense of unease expanded rapidly, like a balloon being inflated to its limit before suddenly bursting. A suppressed memory surged fiercely back into his consciousness.

The same ominous wind, like an omen, like a harbinger of a storm. What followed closely behind was—

His eyelashes trembled, his arms clenched tightly, and he looked up at the sky.

On the Starnet, a terrifying oppressive atmosphere that hadn’t been felt in a decade quickly spread. Everyone stared fixedly at the live broadcast where suddenly all the participants collapsed to the ground, their bodies trembling, moving their gaze slowly like stiff puppets, looking up towards the gathering clouds and mist where the hurricane was converging.

No, no, this is just a bad weather, no–

“Ss ss sst—”

At the gathering point of the clouds and mist, a black dot slowly appeared, then rapidly expanded. It seemed like in the blink of an eye, a massive black hole emerged amidst the swirling edge of the clouds and mist, devoid of any light in the center.

A newly adult dwarf, while seeking shelter from the storm, collided with the suddenly appearing black hole in the forest, and then, the space itself twisted, revealing an unfamiliar world before his eyes.

The terrifying scene from memory tore through the façade of warmth and reappeared before Qiao Zhiya’s eyes. He stared wide-eyed at the familiar yet incredibly unfamiliar black hole, and for the first time since a long while, he felt a bone-chilling fear spread to all the veins in his body.

Why does this appear? Is it coming to take him home? Is it… about to come and expose his origins in public?

The brown mecha involuntarily took a step forward, as if the paused scene suddenly resumed. At the edge of the black hole, a thin, elongated insect-like segmented body suddenly popped out, firmly gripping the rolling mist, followed by two long tentacles-like feelers extending out.

“Ah-! It’s the Zerg!”

On the Starnet, a sharp, trembling scream shattered the tense atmosphere. Bang! Like fuel into a fire, moments ago enjoying the fun of the match, the audience panicked and began to scramble like headless flies.

The system sensed their instability and immediately launched an emergency plan to force them offline.

On the flagship, the friends and relatives of the participants stirred with fear, all turning to rush towards the organizers to seek help for the trapped participants. However, they found that the room where they were watching the broadcast was locked behind a protective barrier.

Outside the flagship, a black-gold mecha was rapidly descending towards the competition arena.

“Swish swish swish!”

The black hole expanded for a moment, and then suddenly, a horde of grotesque and massive figures burst out of the hole, carrying with them a terrifying hunger that had been pent up for ages. They rushed towards the motionless brown mecha in midair as if it were frozen in place.

Below, Chu Yan struggled to free him from this spiritual pressure that paralyzed his mecha. He tried to scream, but only could gasped out: “Qiao… run…”
