Yellow Leaf Wood was one of the parts needed in the second page of the blueprint. Qiao Zhiya ran to Elder Tree-xiansheng with a blushing face, and put his hands on it, pouring out a little magic. The ancient tree quickly responded to him, and immediately after he received a request, the root system arched, and a large piece of dark wood flew out from the pit they dug when getting the jades.

With a delighted exclamation, Qiao Zhiya leaned in to nuzzle the trunk, then happily ran over to lift the black wooden piece, which was twice his size. He trotted over to the purification array on the side and placed the wood inside.

As soon as Chu Rong came out of the pit, his eyes glued to that piece of black wood, and suddenly felt that he was not even as good as a piece of wood. He frowned and dragged the youth into his arms, asking, “What is this? It doesn’t seem to be the stuff I gave you. “

“This is a mutant Yellow Leaf Wood, a gift from Elder Tree-xiansheng,” Qiao Zhiya replied excitedly, gesturing with his fingers still on the wood. “These are the most essential parts of the tree, accidentally broken off and left in the soil by Elder Tree-xiansheng. Don’t be fooled by its dull appearance; the power it contains is definitely much greater than other grade ten materials! At least double! Hmm, maybe even triple.”

Chu Rong likes the color black very much, but now he has decided not to like this black piece of wood for the time being.

Suppressing the inexplicable sourness in his heart, he dragged Qiao Zhiya away from the array and brought him up onto the mecha, flying towards the edge of the forest. It was time to find some food to feed this silly Bald Chicken who forgets to eat even when engrossed in his studies.

In the Federation, the Zerg tide surged again after a short retreat.

Long Ruifeng was playing the battle of public opinion, and the pressure on the Chu family was increasing. Everywhere, he fueled the fire, provoking the worry of the public.

Just when the boiling public opinion almost spilling over into resentment towards the Chu Family, Chu Huai finally stepped forward and held a press conference, his face pale, expressing his sickness, stating that due to his prolonged coma, there was no one from the Chu Family to take charge, which led to a delay in responding to the President’s “thoughtful suggestions.” He expressed deep regret for this.

Immediately after, he stated that the military indeed couldn’t remain unmanaged indefinitely. Therefore, after consultation and seeking the opinions of the soldiers, he decided to divide the Chu Family’s military into three parts: one part would remain stationed on major planets to guard their basic security; another part would be placed under the command of Yuan Lie, temporarily assuming the position of Marshal in place of Chu Rong, to guard the border defenses; and the remaining part would be placed under the command of one of the four Marshals, He Hongjun, to safeguard the security of the central planet together with Marshal He Hongjun.

After saying all this, his complexion visibly worsened, appearing as if he could barely hold on. However, he still managed to straighten his back and finish the press conference. Towards the end, he even bowed deeply for an extended period, expressing profound self-blame for suddenly collapsing before the impending war.

The little resentment brewing in the hearts of the people immediately dissipated as they looked at his pale complexion, and they all felt a sense of discomfort and self-blame.

The Chu family is not like other families; only Chu Huai and Chu Rong are capable of taking charge. Now that Chu Rong has disappeared in public to protect the people, the situation looks grim. Chu Huai fell ill because of this, and although he was already feeling distressed, he was pressured by the President as soon as he woke up to deal with the situation. It’s really pitiful.

And the Chu family had clearly fulfilled its duties. Even when Chu Huai fell ill and lapsed into a coma, the planets where the Chu family’s army was stationed immediately implemented the strongest defenses when the Zerg tide erupted, effectively safeguarding the safety of the people even in the absence of their commander.

The public opinion, under the control of the President, gradually turned biased, and criticisms of the President’s lack of empathy began to emerge. Just as Long Ruifeng was eagerly trying to stir up more trouble, another piece of news broke out — Chu Yan, on behalf of his second brother, went to the front line! He is currently on Lieutenant Admiral Yuan Lie’s spacecraft, serving as a new recruit soldier!

The hearts of the people immediately became even more sympathetic, and some emotional people even couldn’t help but cry.

More than a decade ago, the Chu family fought to the end for the Federation, for the safety of the people, until only the three brothers remained to support each other. Now history repeats itself: first, Chu Rong and his fiancé were sucked into a black hole while protecting the people, their fate unknown. Then Chu Huai, enduring illness and the grief of his missing loved ones, stepped forward to oversee the situation and protect the Federation. And now, even the youngest, Chu Yan, has personally gone to the front lines to confront the terrifying swarm of Zergs.

Time and time again, the Chu family has done enough. Is it true that everyone is forcing the Chu family into a corner until they can only die? Must the Federation’s security be exchanged for the blood of the Chu family?

“Damn it!” Long Ruifeng slammed the table in frustration, his once amiable demeanor now completely vanished in private.

Long Ruizhang looked at him with concern and helplessness, sighing deeply before speaking, “Dage, let it go. The Zergs are approaching, and now is not the time for internal strife. Even Chu Yan has gone to the front line. If you continue to press on, it may provoke a backlash from the people.”

Chu Huai played the sympathy card perfectly this time, striking a chord with the public. The people wouldn’t delve into the intricacies of power struggles; they would only see the “tyrants” forcing the newly adult Chu Yan into desperate combat. In this round of public opinion warfare, it was ultimately a victory for Chu Huai.

“What step have they taken? The Chu family hasn’t suffered any losses at all!” Long Ruifeng refused to listen to his brother’s advice, his expression contorted as he said, “Dividing the military power into thirds might seem like a significant concession, but look at how Chu Huai distributed it! The troops stationed on the planets haven’t budged at all, and the ones that can be mobilized have been partly given to Yuan Lie, significantly boosting his status and granting him a quasi-Marshal position, enhancing his authority! The remaining portion was given to He Hongjun, who always playing the fool! And it was explicitly stated that they would help He Hongjun safeguard the safety of the Capital Planet! How is this safeguarding the safety of the Capital Planet? This is clearly aimed at me! He openly and transparently created a military force to hang over my head, over all the major families’ heads! Who forced him into this situation? He’s the one forcing me!”1Just a reminder, there are four Marshals in the Federation: Chu Rong, one marshal from the You family, one marshal from the Xiang-Wei coalition, and one “neutral” marshal, who is originally a civilian. He Hongjun in this neutral marshal.

Long Ruizhang couldn’t help but sigh again at his words, saying, “But the people won’t understand these things, Dage. Once the news of Chu Yan going to the frontlines spreads, the Chu family really can’t make any moves. You need to stop now. Dealing with the Zergs is urgent. If you handle this situation well, the people might start leaning towards you. After the war, when the presidential election restarts, you might even be able to…”

“It’s impossible!” Long Ruifeng interrupted him, his face darkening, “Those foolish people will never lean towards me. With the Four Great Families in power, no one will ever lean towards me!”

Long Ruizhang was almost going crazy with his paranoid stubbornness and frowned, “But Dage, have you forgotten the help from the Ning family this time?”

“Ning family?” Long Ruifeng sneered, then with an ironic tone, he added, “Ning family is not helping me, he is helping himself2Long Ruifeng is using the pronoun “他”, so it’s singular male (can be gender neutral though)! The people who really help me are–“

With that, he suddenly looked startled, closed his mouth, and glanced at Long Ruizhang with apprehension. Then, he suddenly looked weary, waved his hand, and said, “Alright, I’m feeling a bit tired. I’ll consider the matters concerning the Chu family later. You’re right, dealing with the Zergs is the priority for now.”

Long Ruizhang thought he was finally willing to listen to his persuasion. Feeling relieved, he nodded, “You have a good rest, Dage, I will come to see you tomorrow.”

After Long Ruizhang left, Long Ruifeng immediately got up and went into the inner room. He activated all the security measures and then carefully took out a communicator. He dialed a number through a special channel. After a while, the communication was connected, and an elegant figure appeared, leaning on a sofa.

Long Ruifeng involuntarily straightened his back, and a slightly ingratiating smile appeared on his face as he spoke, “Prince An Xei, sorry to disturb you at this late hour. The thing is, recently there have been some developments in the Chuo family—”

“No need to explain,” Prince An Xei waved his hand lightly, dismissively saying, “I will increase the investment. You handle it yourself. Also, I’ve been quite busy lately, so don’t keep bothering me. If you have any issues, call the Ning family first. I’m hanging up.”

The call interface disappeared. An Xei didn’t have a good expression.

The smile on Long Ruifeng’s face disappeared, replaced by a grim expression. He stood there for a moment, then suddenly snorted coldly and threw the communicator away.

Chu family.

Both Chu Huai and Gu Yan’an were stunned by Chu Yan’s sudden enlistment, and even Yuan Lie didn’t know when Chu Yan was mixed up with his solder. But then, Yuan Xiu took the initiative to confess their schemes.

So it’s not just Chu Yan who sneaked onto the warship as a new recruit, but also Yuan Xiu. The rapid spread of the news was also their doing in secret.

“Nonsense!”

Chu Huai and Yuan Lie simultaneously scolded over the communication, while Chu Yan and Yuan Xiu, standing in front of Yuan Lie, remained silent and listened to the reprimand. One had a calm expression but exuded stubbornness, while the other wore a guilty look but surprisingly maintained a defiant attitude.

Chu Huai and Yuan Lie looked at each other and both got headaches.

Just a while ago, they were saying that these two young ones had grown up, become sensible, and wouldn’t cause trouble for the family anymore. But now… it seems that boasting too soon is never a good idea!

“Chu Yan, go back to your room and make a private call to me. We need to talk,” Finally, Chu Huai spoke, not saying anything in public. He still had some sense of propriety; disciplining children should be done in private.

Chu Yan immediately gave Yuan Lie a standard military salute, calling him Lieutenant General properly, then turned and left.

Seeing this, both Yuan Lie and Chu Huai became increasingly worried. If even Yuan Lie couldn’t intervene, it meant that Chu Yan was truly determined to go to the front lines.

After returning to his room, Chu Yan immediately initiated a communication request. Chu Huai answered the call and found himself face to face with his youngest brother, who stood in the new recruits’ room, dressed in military attire with his hair cut short, appearing somewhat unfamiliar. Countless words flooded Chu Huai’s mind, but suddenly, he found himself unable to speak.

“Dage.” Chu Yan opened his mouth first, his back straight and his eyes firm, and said earnestly, “I have grown up and know what I want to do.”

“But…” Chu Huai began, trying to say something to discourage him but couldn’t say it. He suddenly felt frustrated.

More than a decade ago, Chu Rong helped carry the burden of the Chu family, and now, more than a decade later, Chu Yan has taken the first step forward. As the oldest brother, does he always fail to protect the safety and stability of his younger brothers?

“Dage, you are already stretched very thin,” Chu Yan tightened his grip on the military cap and said, “The responsibility of the Chu family does not rest solely on your shoulders. The President is pressuring you, and other families are watching the show. Erge hasn’t returned yet, so I’m just doing what I can do at the moment, and what I must do.”

Chu Huai was speechless. Indeed, Chu Yan going to the frontline was really a good political maneuver – with this one move, he was able to block everyone’s criticism instantly.

‘However…’ he looked at Chu Yan’s mature and steady demeanor, and suddenly felt a bit dizzy. His vision doubled, as if the figure of Chu Rong standing stubbornly superimposed with Chu Yan’s figure. His throat tightened, and after a long silence, he spoke gently, “Come back safely. Please.”

Chu Yan’s eyes softened at his brother’s words, and he nodded firmly, showing a hint of reliance on Chu Huai as he used to at home. He replied, “I will.”
