CW: particularly gory description of human experimentation

Ning Tianxing and Ning Tianya both had lower spiritual power levels than the elder, and Ning Tianya, with a less steadfast personality, seemed to be the easier target for the search. Therefore, Chu Rong and others decided to start with him.

This time, Chu Rong didn’t give Ning Tianya the chance to know what he was about to face. Before entering the room, he used sleep gas to render Ning Tianya unconscious. Then the team entered and began the standard search procedure.

Chu Rong sat in front of the mental projection device and nodded at the elder when he was ready, indicating that he could begin.

The search commenced, with the elder’s spiritual power fluctuating in the air. After a few flickers, images began to appear on the screen of the device.

In the image, there was a large laboratory. A younger Ning Tianxing was walking out from the door, dressed in a white lab coat. Ning Tianya seemed curious about the laboratory and glanced inside as Ning Tianxing emerged. It was this glance that made all the officials gasp in shock.

What a terrible scene!

In the massive nutrient tanks against the wall, various corpses of organisms were soaking. On the central examination table lay a dissected human subject. In cages in the corner were some emaciated creatures with lifeless eyes, resembling neither humans nor animals. Further away were numerous Zergs specimens. The floor was littered with a mixture of unidentified liquids and blood.

Although they could only see one glance, it was a horrible sight they couldn’t forget once they saw it!

Ning Tianya was clearly startled by the scene inside. He only took a quick glance before immediately retracting his gaze. The impact of this image on him must have been significant, as it was the first thing that came to his mind during the mental search.

The Ning family was really doing human experiments.

Chu Rong’s eyes became heavier and he sat up slightly.

The elder who was conducting the search on Ning Tianya’s memories showed a look of discomfort on his face. He, being a gentle and kind-hearted man, had never witnessed such scenes of evil before.

In the scene, Ning Tianya reported some information about the Ning family’s medications to Ning Tianxing. Then, he turned around, preparing to leave. As he turned, one tightly arranged laboratory door after another came into view, extending into the distance seemingly without end.

Some of these doors were closed tightly, while others were half-open. The scientists with masks – their faces weren’t seen – were busy entering and exiting. They were holding various strange human specimens in their hands.

Were there many similar laboratories?

The officials couldn’t help but turn away, unable to bear the impact of this scene.

The elder who searched also seemed unable to withstand the impact of such a picture, his power shook, and the mental projection suddenly fizzled out.

“Sorry.” The elder apologized immediately, his face clearly showed signs of discomfort.

Chu Rong shook his head to express that it was all right. He stood up, poured a glass of water for the elder, and handed him a vial of Yellow Leaf Tree potion, comforting him, “You’ve worked hard. Take a break.”

The elder nodded appreciatively, took a sip of water, and sat down. He curiously examined the vial of golden liquid in his hand and tried to unscrew the cap.

A soothing and healing scent emanated from the vial. Upon smelling it, the elder felt a surge of vitality. He glanced at Chu Rong, who was speaking with the investigators, then sensed the comforting power once again. Trusting it completely, he tilted his head back and drank the potion with full confidence.

After a short break, the search continues.

The subsequent scenes finally returned to normal. It seemed that Ning Tianya intentionally avoided focusing on anything related to the laboratory and instead concentrated on the Ning family’s external affairs. Memories mostly revolved around the decisions and clandestine plans of the Ning family over the years, all of which were laid bare.

As the memory search reached the incident involving the pharmaceutical scandal during last year’s festival, the other officials couldn’t help but look sympathetically towards Chu Rong, who was seated at the front.

Ning Tianya’s memories were filled with animosity towards Chu Huai and Chu Rong. Even during times when the Ning family appeared most neutral and harmless, they were secretly plotting against the Chu family. For instance, some of the special medicines Chu Rong received when his spiritual power was polluted had been tampered with by the Ning family.

Chu Rong didn’t appreciate being looked at with sympathetic eyes. He frowned and said, “All the medicines I use come from Chu family pharmacists. Except for the spiritual purification solution provided by the Federation, all the other medicines I used are sealed and stored in our warehouse.”

Even the spiritual power purification solution undergoes thorough inspection by Zhuang Yu before it reaches his hands.

It is indeed Marshal Chu – his work is thorough.

The official investigators looked back, sighing inside.

The investigator from the judicial team approached Chu Rong and requested to take possession of the batch of medications for detailed investigation. Chu Rong nodded and provided him with Zhuang Yu’s contact information.

Several hours later, the search concluded, and everyone’s expressions were grim.

Although there was some incriminating evidence regarding treason and the Ning family’s schemes against other Great Families in Ning Tianya’s memories, they were not very clear.

He was actually just a pawn, a puppet who had not been in contact with the true core of the conspiracy. Ning Tianya only knew the surface of the Ning family’s major crimes, such as human experimentation, the production of harmful medicines and drugs, the creation of fake Zergs, and collusion with the Empire. Throughout, he passively obeyed Ning Tianxing’s orders and was not involved in the planning of the conspiracies.

From his memories, it appears that the Ning family’s main center for human experimentation was located on a remote, obscure planet. Surprisingly, Ning Tianya didn’t even know the detailed location. Additionally, all the harmful medications produced by the Ning family originated from Ning Tianxing. Each time a new medication was introduced, Ning Tianxing would roughly explain its effects, where it should be used, and how to use it, and then Ning Tianya would obediently follow his orders.

He was completely unaware of the details of the fake Zergs creations. He solely relied on Ning Tianxing’s coordination and operation. Ning Tianya only knew how to use specially crafted medications to avoid the attacks of the Zergs and control them.

In regards to the crucial collaboration with the Empire, although Ning Tianya had contacted An Xei before, he always remained in a subordinate position. His situation was only slightly better than Long Ruifeng, who was treated purely as a tool. The only one who could engage in equal dialogue with An Xei was Ning Tianxing.

For these past years, it seemed that Ning Tianya held the highest position in the Ning family while Ning Tianxing remained in the background, appearing to be merely a simple pharmaceutical researcher without any real authority. However, in reality, every decision and action of Ning Tianya was shadowed by the manipulation of Ning Tianxing. Ning Tianya himself was nothing but a puppet who couldn’t think for himself.

“First, investigate the human experimentation laboratory from Ning Tianya’s memories. There should be one on this planet. Send people to thoroughly search all of the industries under the Ning family’s name,” Chu Rong ordered. Then, he stood up and turned to the elder, saying, “I’m sorry to trouble you again, but please continue searching Ning Tianxing’s memories to prevent any unforeseen complications.”

The eldery man looked dignified. He readily nodded. “Let’s go on. I only can’t stand it if I have to stay up all night.”

“I’ll be troubling you.”

Chu Rong expressed his gratitude and handed over another vial of medication. Then, he gestured for the team to secure Ning Tianya’s mental projection and proceeded to Ning Tianxing’s confinement room.

It was already midnight, and Ning Tianxing had been forcibly sedated earlier. However, for added security, Chu Rong had someone release the sleep gas once more. After confirming that all the monitoring devices indicated Ning Tianxing was in a state of deep sleep, he led the team inside.

With the procedure repeated three times, everyone had become proficient at it. Moreover, now that they likely knew Ning Tianxing was the mastermind behind everything, the team’s actions became particularly efficient.

After the equipment was set up, the elder immediately started searching.

Ning Tianya’s spiritual level was high, reaching SS level, and his spiritual power reserves were substantial. The elder had been working tirelessly all day, and even with SSS level spiritual power, penetrating his spiritual sea still required considerable effort.

The projection screen flickered for a long time, but it was grey.

The officials were initially puzzled, but when they noticed the instability in the elder’s spiritual power, their expressions changed, realizing that something was amiss.

Chu Rong acted swiftly, moving forward to forcibly sever the spiritual connection between the elder and Ning Tianxing. Then, he used his own spiritual energy to block Ning Tianxing’s involuntary spiritual power lashing. Afterward, he retrieved a vial of Yellow Leaf Tree potion and administered it to the elder.

The elder’s complexion turned somewhat pale. After drinking the medication, he regained a bit of composure, albeit with a hint of fear and disbelief in his voice. He quickly spoke, “It’s a mental lock, a very powerful one. The person who placed it has a higher spiritual level than me. I can’t break it.”

Higher than SSS-level? It could only be… SSSS-level – something of which never appeared in the history of the Federation.1T/L: psst. In the previous chapters, Chu Rong’s mother’s dying message (written in blood) is… SSSS

The officials began to stir, while Chu Rong furrowed his brows deeply, gesturing for others to support the elder. He then approached the unconscious Ning Tianxing and projected his spiritual energy towards his spiritual sea.

He was young and much more aggressive than the elder, with a sharper and more offensive power. Also, due to consuming the Flesh of the Stone and his relatively young age, his spiritual energy reserves were higher than that of an ordinary SSS-level. Although he refrained from acting previously to ensure the fairness of the investigation, the current situation was too dire for him to consider such concerns.

After his spiritual energy entered Ning Tianxing’s spiritual sea, it indeed became increasingly difficult to proceed. An invisible barrier obstructed his search, and as he attempted to penetrate it, a surge of formidable spiritual energy immediately counterattacked.

He immediately increased his spiritual energy output, relentlessly engaging in the confrontation. The two streams of spiritual energy began a fierce struggle.

On the bed, Ning Tianxing’s face contorted in agony, but at this moment, nobody cared about how he felt, and in fact, everyone wanted him to suffer and die. They only want to know the truth!

As Chu Rong’s attack intensified, some fragmented images finally appeared on the projection device.

Blood, severed human and Zerg limbs, various grotesque artificial creatures, and densely packed eggs of small Zergs. Then the image gradually stabilized, revealing a young boy lying on an operating table. The boy was struggling in pain, and what’s even more horrifying is that half of his skull had been opened, with some wire-like objects connected to it.

Then a slight noise suddenly came from outside the door. Ning Tianxing, who was experimenting on the young boy, immediately turned to look, then quickly stepped out and caught a slightly older boy who was standing in shock outside the door.

“Kongran, why are you he—”

“Click.” The image disappeared, and the officials were left with an image of the boy called Kongran’s fearful and hateful gaze.

Unable to withstand the psychological pressure, some people couldn’t help but turn their heads and retch a few times. Others clenched their fists in anger, and one particularly hot-headed official even attempted to rush forward to attack the prone figure of Ning Tianxing on the bed, only to be restrained by others.

“This scum of earth! He didn’t even spare his own children!”

These normally composed officials couldn’t help but burst into angry curses, their rage making them sound like irrational lunatics.

As long as someone still possesses a shred of humanity, they wouldn’t harbor evil intentions towards children! Ning Tianxing simply isn’t worthy of being called a human being! He’s nothing but a beast!

Chu Rong, with a stern expression, withdrew his spiritual power and also took a dose of Yellow Leaf Wood potion. He commanded, “Let him remain unconscious, don’t let him wake up. The mental lock in his mind has become powerful enough to control some of the host’s thoughts. It was to the extent that when I attacked it tonight, it might provoke Ning Tianxing into self-harm.”

It could control the spiritual power and people’s thoughts?

The agitated officials were shaken by this statement and immediately calmed down, feeling a shiver run down their spines.

His thoughts were under the control of another person. Is “he” still “himself”?

“It’s late. Go and rest.”

Chu Rong waved his hand, indicating for them to leave, and then turned around and walked away himself.

T/L: Fun fact! in earlier chapters, Ning Kongran did state that he stayed in the Ning family (despite his hatred towards them) to retrieve what “remains of his younger brother”.
