About half an hour later, Qiao Zhiya, who had been playing alone for a while, was picked up by Chu Rong and taken to the door of Ning Kongran’s room.

“I just conducted a mental search on him, and he requested it voluntarily,” Chu Rong said as he raised his hand to brush Qiao Zhiya’s bangs. He didn’t hide what he had just done, looking at the pure eyes that had remained unchanged since they first met. He leaned down to kiss his forehead gently and said, “Go on, accompany him for a good meal.”

Qiao Zhiya knew what a mental search entailed. He felt a tightness in his heart. Without asking further questions, he hurriedly pushed the door and entered Ning Kongran’s room.

Chu Rong thoughtfully opened the door for him and stayed outside.

Ning Kongran, who was already awake in the room, was sitting quietly at a table filled with steaming hot food, waiting calmly. When he saw Qiao Zhiya enter, he quickly smiled, as if the two of them were simply meeting for a meal in a normal restaurant. He waved and said, “Come on, the food’s getting cold.”

Qiao Zhiya looked at Ning Kongran’s pale complexion, furrowing his brows. Without mentioning that he had already eaten, he approached and sat opposite him. With a serious expression, he directly held Ning Kongran’s hand as he was about to pick up the utensils, and sent his wood-elemental magic into him for exploration.

Ning Kongran paused for a moment, looking at Qiao Zhiya’s serious and worried expression. His heart softened. He relaxed his arm and allowed the blond youth to explore with his power.

After using magic to confirm Ning Kongran’s physical condition and ensuring he wasn’t injured by the mental search, Qiao Zhiya breathed a sigh of relief. He took out a small box containing twelve vials of Yellow Leaf Tree from his storage ring and pushed it over, saying, “This, one vial per day. Finish them all.”

Ning Kongran smiled and readily accepted the gift. “Thank you.”

Seeing him like this, Qiao Zhiya opened his mouth, hesitating on what to say. After furrowing his brows for a while, he finally managed to say, “You should take care of yourself.” It was clear that Ning Kongran could have left the Ning family early and lived his own life, so why did he choose to stay and suffer alongside those guilty Ning family members? It was just not fair.

Ning Kongran saw his concern. His smile got deeper, then he nodded and said, “Okay, thank you.”

“It’s just some potion, no need to keep thanking me…” Qiao Zhiya replied somewhat gloomily. He stood up and ladled a bowl of soup for Ning Kongran, saying, “Have some soup first, warm your stomach. You need to learn to take care of yourself properly, don’t treat your body as a child’s plaything.” Like, for example, requesting a mental search.

Ning Kongran reached for the soup without speaking.

He didn’t just thank him for the potion, but for Qiao Zhiya’s presence. The hermit’s prophecy was indeed accurate — Qiao Zhiya was the one who could save his clan. Without him, the Ning family wouldn’t have fallen, and those other recluses and Exoplanet Natives who were secretly tortured and experimented on would never have escaped the clutches of the Ning family.

So, he wanted to thank Qiao Zhiya for making his road to revenge smooth.

After finishing their meal, Ning Kongran walked to the door in Qiao Zhiya’s puzzled gaze and invited Chu Rong in. He then gestured for Chu Rong to take a seat and handed him an address, saying, “The people living here are all victims of Ning Tianxing’s human experiments. If there’s a need for witnesses in a public trial, Marshal can go to them. They will cooperate fully.”

The victim of human experiments?

Chu Rong immediately realized the weight of the evidence and frowned.

“Please also ensure their safety, Marshal,” Ning Kongran said, looking at the two figures sitting side by side, looking particularly harmonious. He smiled suddenly and continued, “Next, I’d like to share some of my speculations.”

The more Qiao Zhiya looked at Ning Kongran’s smile, the more he felt uneasy in his heart. He wanted to comfort him but didn’t know how to start. Feeling at a loss, he poured a cup of hot tea and placed it by Ning Kongran’s side.

Chu Rong looked at him from the side, and took his hand in order to comfort him.

Ning Kongran glanced at their clasped hands, picked up the tea cup to warm his hands, and continued, “The history of human experiments in the Ning family is definitely much longer than we thought. In fact, everyone in the Ning family is a special type of spiritual power user. Some are more prominent, while others are weaker. Ning Tianxing is among the most outstanding.”

When Chu Rong heard that, his frown deepened.

“They deceived everyone. They, who once advocated for the persecution of special spiritual power users, are actually the largest family of special spiritual power users,” Ning Kongran revealed this secret, feeling a sudden relief in his heart, unable to help but sigh.

Great, he doesn’t have to hide these dirty things anymore.

At the beginning of the establishment of the Federation, the Ning family was not one of the four. At that time, the only real Great Family was the Chu family and the Xiang family. The Ning family and Wei family developed later.

The Wei family members might lack in strategy, but they were talented, so the Wei family has been firmly standing by the Xiang family’s side for a long time, seeking development. The Ning family, on the other hand, was different. They climbed to one of the Four Great Families’ positions by continuously producing new drugs and quickly seizing resources in several major wars.

The reason why the Ning family has been able to continuously produce new drugs was precisely because of the special spiritual power users of the Ning family members. They have a unique advantage in apothecary.

In the beginning, the Ning family members were just ordinary high-level spiritual power users. At that time, the concept of special spiritual power was not very clear, and there was no term like “hermits” or “recluses”. They’re only classified as Exoplanet Natives, and there were many of them.

At that time, a high-level spiritual power user from the Ning family happened to marry an Exoplanet Native with unique abilities. A year later, they gave birth to a child with exceptional special spiritual power. The Ning family members quickly realized this and began to use these special spiritual power people to create wealth.

After tasting the sweetness of success, members of the Ning family began consciously pairing with special spiritual power users to artificially increase the number of special spiritual power users in the family. Moreover, to ensure absolute authority within marital relationships, many of them married Exoplanet Natives with naive personalities, in order to easily control them.

As generations passed, the Ning family grew stronger and stronger. Gradually, others also discovered the uniqueness of special spiritual power users and began to explore their potential, admiring them. Influenced by these changes, the Exoplanet Natives controlled by the Ning family began to rebel against their control.

Fearing the situation would spiral out of control, the Ning family instigated a campaign to persecute special spiritual power users. They demonized their abilities, exaggerated their distinctive appearances, and dispatched people to hunt them down. In secret, they captured them for research purposes.

With wars raging and no one to restrain the Ning family’s atrocities, the number of special spiritual power users dwindled rapidly. Those who survived went into hiding, seeking refuge from persecution – and such, they became known as “hermits” or “recluse”.

After the wars ended, the attention of other Great Families shifted back from the frontlines to domestic affairs. At this opportune moment, the Ning family ceased their persecution and diverted attention by producing a large quantity of new medicines.

“Perhaps it’s karma, or maybe it’s because there are no longer any Exoplanet Native people providing excellent genes to the despicable Ning family. Over these generations, the number of special spiritual power users in the Ning family has decreased significantly,” Ning Kongran sneered, glancing at Qiao Zhiya, who looked worried, before quickly regaining his composure and continuing calmly, “Fearing the loss of the Ning family’s advantage, Ning Tianxing went mad and devised his own way to conduct research by having children. Because in this generation, his special spiritual power is the strongest.”

Qiao Zhiya didn’t expect the truth to be so cruel. He frowned deeply.

“Therefore, the history of Ning family’s human experiments must be very long, and there must be more than one human experimentation lab under Ning Tianxing’s command. If possible, Marshal, it would be best to also capture Elder Ningand interrogate him. He must have been involved in these matters,” Ning Kongran concluded.

Chu Rong squeezed Qiao Zhiya’s hand, trying to comfort the blond youth. He nodded to indicate his understanding, then said, “I will have someone take care of these matters. Additionally, although I can’t disclose the details of the investigation, there’s something I believe you have the right to know. There’s a mental lock inside Ning Tianxing’s mind, and it has been there for a long time. The person who placed this lock has a spiritual power level of SSS or above.”

According to Ning Tianya’s memory, Prince An Xei joined forces with the Ning family about twenty years ago. An Xei’s spiritual power level was only SS, so it’s impossible for him to be the one who placed the mental lock. This meant that behind the Ning family’s human experiments, there was still someone lurking in the shadows.

This plot of Zerg and human experiments was far more complicated than what they originally thought. What they have uncovered might just be a piece of a big puzzle.

Ning Kongran was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, then his expression changed drastically. He stood up abruptly and said, “Are you suggesting that the person who harmed my mother and brother is not just Ning Tianxing? Was he just an accomplice?”

“It’s possible, but not certain,” Chu Rong said as he stood up, helping Qiao Zhiya to his feet. “So, you have a lot to do. Someone will come to take you to witness protection in half an hour, to a safe place where you can rest and do what you want. You are free.”

After he finished speaking, Chu Rong left with Qiao Zhiya, who was reluctant to leave. Ning Kongran looked at the closed door, then sat down heavily on the bed. His expression was a mix of confusion as he pondered various matters. Gradually, the deep-seated desolation in his eyes disappeared. He quickly took out his communicator and began to contact the outside world.

On the way back, Qiao Zhiya kept frowning. He then asked, “What you just said, is it true? Is there really a bigger conspiracy?”

Chu Rong snapped out of his reverie and nodded, replying, “Although it’s currently just speculation, as far as I know, there are no people with SSSS-level spiritual power in the Federation. If we want to know more, we’ll have to capture both Elder Ning and An Xei and conduct a thorough mental search.”

Qiao Zhiya felt a heavy weight in his heart and said, “But An Xei is an Imperial Prince. How can we capture him? And as for Elder Ning, he’s in the Empire. There’s no way we can get our hands on him…”

“So I have to ask for your help.”

Chu Rong patted his head, squinting to hide the coldness in his eyes, and said, “An Xei is now hesitant to make any moves because the Imperial Royal flagship has yet to return to the Empire, leaving him uncertain. When the black hole behind the Ning family’s flagship disappeared, the black hole behind the Imperial Royal flagship suddenly expanded, sucking it in. I suspect that the shot I fired damaged some kind of teleportation device inside the black hole behind the Ning family’s flagship, inadvertently affecting the black hole behind the Imperial Royal flagship, causing it to deviate from its original direction and end up in some unknown location, such as a meteorite belt. Without your guidance technique, it would be extremely difficult to navigate out of an undefined meteorite belt.”

Now, as long as they find the Imperial Royal flagship before An Xei does, he’ll have a way to pin An Xei down as a criminal of the Empire, and have him transported to the Federation for a joint trial between the two civilizations.

Qiao Zhiya immediately understood what he meant and said, “You want me to use the bloodline tracing array to find the Imperial Royal flagship? But to use this method, we must obtain blood from someone related to the Third Imperial Prince, and all those who meet the criteria are now in the Empire.” So it’s still a dead end.

“No, there is one more person not in the Empire that can help us.”

Qiao Zhiya froze and asked, “Who?”

“Jian.” Chu Rong replied, holding his hand.

Although not born to the same parents, Jian and the Third Imperial Prince – now Emperor – were both from the Royal Family. They are quite closely blood-related.

That night, Chu Rong took Qiao Zhiya to the Chu family flagship. Jian also secretly entered the flagship under the protection of Fan Xiangnan and other soldiers.

In the darkest hour of the night, the Chu family flagship set sail silently. In the central area of the ship, Qiao Zhiya completed the magic array. He glanced apologetically at Jian and carefully cut his finger with a small knife.

After Jian’s hair was enveloped by the blood, it began to spin rapidly, eventually pointing straight towards the location of the border between the two civilizations. However, unlike when it happened to Chu Rong, the hair did not transform into a red line wrapping around Jian’s wrist; instead, it turned into ashes.

“The blood relation is not close enough, so the effect cannot be sustained. After reaching the border, I’ll need to draw a few more times to determine the precise location,” Qiao Zhiya explained, looking at Jian, whose finger was bleeding, with a hint of apology in his eyes.

The array required fresh blood, which meant Jian will have to repeatedly reopen the wound and bleed over the next few days. Just thinking about it felt painful.
