"Excuse me!"

She raced through players and ran towards the south of the town, opposite its northern gate. When she reached it, after winding through streets of dirt, she found her foot squishing against soft ground as the sound of running water echoed in her ears. She stopped, recognizing that crops lay left, and animals—cows, chickens, pigs—lay right as a river laid a good distance in front.

"A farm!" She said.

"No friggen duh Sherlock!" Another playing replied and ran past her.

She rolled her eyes and continued moving.

The area was circular, practically a segmented section of the forest which surrounded Acron as trees laid at its outskirts. She ran past the farm being cared for by NPCs, who took a moment to glance at the rushing players. In moments, she reached the crowded riverbank and stopped.

". . ." The group of players stood in silence while avatars rolled upon the floor, wrestling as quacking rang.

"Hey let go I got here first!"

"Well I don't see it in your hand, do I?"

"Unhand me you *quack* heathens!" An annoyed voice bemoaned.

Lucy gritted her teeth at the mess.

She threw herself into the pile.

In a game where real-life physical strength didn't matter, her short stature gave her an advantage as she worked within the mass of players, ducking below elbows and arms, and grabbed the duck.

Then she pulled herself out and her face met mud, falling.

"Give me the quest!" She glared at the creature which she held with both hands.

It was a duck. Yup. A duck. Nothing special about it. An orange beak. A white body. It was simply a duck.

It cocked its head and stared at her.

"Are you really a traveler? *quack* Where's your weapon?" It scratched its head and bobbed to glance over her. "You wouldn't happen to have an Armament, would you? Wouldn't think they exist at this stage yet, do they?"

Lucy felt her anger boil, and the impatience of the players surrounding her didn't help either. 'Hurry up,' they all but said in a unifying voice.

She was enraged. Here she had struggled over and the duck was wasting her time with its nonsense. So what if she didn't have a weapon? She shook it with all her might as her fingers dug into its feathered body.

"You dang duck, give me my quest!" She yelled.

It quacked and its wings flapped about, trying to get out as she stood, foot finding mud.

"Fine *quack* you wretched woman *quack* I'll hand you your next quest *quack* just let me go!"

[You have reached level 2!]

[Two new skills available for activation!]

[Baby Steps, Part 2]
—to get a quest with as little dialogues said as possible? Amazing. Go find Dafy's lost eggs and return them to him before his wife comes looking for him. He thinks the Frenzied Rabbits mistook them for food and are trying to bury the five for later. Try killing some of them, would you? They might have it.
{Clear Conditions: 0/5 eggs
Rewards: 10 exp, 1 egg}

"Now go find them *quack* you little scoundr—"

Dafy flew through the air, words lost to the wind as Lucy threw it, vein twitching on her forehead.

". . .what the hell?" An angered voice rang.

She glanced around her.

". . ."

Players stared at her figure, enraged.

"Did she just threw away what I spent the past ten minutes tracking down?!"

Lucy ran for her life.

"I'm sorry!" She yelled as blades chased her figure.

An arrow flew beside her head and she jumped past the farm.

"Dangit, my Starter Bow just broke!" A player raged.

At that point, Lucy couldn't help but laugh as she ran with all her might. They might have been chasing her to smack her—as this was a safe zone and no damage would come to her—but she took it with seriousness as she grinned, finding the act fun.

"Goddammit, is she grinning?!"

"Of course she's grinning! She doesn't fear a beating! Don't you see her name?! She was the first player to die!"

Was that how they thought? She was merely enjoying her time.

"We can't catch her! These weapons are grabbing our ankles!"

Since she didn't have her starter sword which granted a negative status bonus to speed, she was actually a step faster than those behind her and they quickly realized that fact. Eventually, the players thinned out because, well, they still had a duck to re-find.

Lucy stopped, hiding behind a small house, and catching her breath. As this was a game, the mud on her person had already started to dissipate.

She summoned her Traveler's Book and checked her swordsman skill tree—a tab below her character page. There were two unlocked for purchase.

[Heavy Slash: Deal a damage equal to 150% of your physical strength.]
{Activation Cost: 1 Soul
Requirement: Blade
Type: Active
Consumption: 10 mana points}

[Pensive Block: Negate 25% of magic damage by successfully blocking with your blade.]
{Activation Cost: 1 Soul
Requirement: Blade
Type: Passive
Consumption: None}

She tapped to realize that the activation cost for them—what essentially 'purchased' the skill and allowed her access—was 1 Soul each. A currency that could only be gained from killing beasts. Though the game hadn't released many details, most players supposed the amount gained was based on the level of the monsters you killed. Though, with the experience she had had so far with the game, she thought she wouldn't put it past the devs to make gaining even 1 Soul a task of killing multiple beasts.

"Darn game," She muttered.

Right now, both skills were utterly useless to her as she had no blade-type weaponry. A requirement for executing the moves.

Sighing, she double-checked the updated 'Baby Steps' quest before vanishing the book from her grasp.

It was now time to slay some rabbits and get her revenge.

However. . .

She would have to figure out how to do so without a weapon.
