- Episode 8

In the middle, a stream flowed and a strong bridge was placed over it. Seeing the people in various clothes, the wagons passing by, and the towering buildings, Estio walked blankly. While walking down his street, Tsuki disappeared somewhere. However, the black cat always disappeared and popped up like that, so Estio wasn't really worried.

People briefly glanced at Estio, who was carrying a large white-haired monkey, but then passed by without much concern. Since every day there is a circus and all sorts of strange animal shows in the middle of the city, they didn't attract much attention.

However, the security guards in charge of the city came and imposed sanctions.

"Hey, don't you know that medium and oversized animals must wear a leash?"

"Isn't that a white-haired monkey? That's like a wild beast, isn't it? He's going to make a big deal out of it."

The guards tickled their tongues and brought a supply choke chain made of crude chains into Estio's arms.

"Hmm, it looks like you came from the village, but it's illegal to walk around without a leash for the second time. Keep that in mind."

"......"

The chain made of cheap iron was so heavy that even when S.T.O was standing, his arm trembled.

As he stood without thinking of tying the choke chains, the guards fiddled with the tonfa they used as batons.

"Hurry up, fill it up. We have to patrol quickly."

"it's okay."

As Neju's thoughts flowed into his head, Estio looked up at him in surprise. The wise white-haired monkey did not use human language in front of people. And he knew how to obey the law of the majority so as not to embarrass Estio.

"Kukkuk."

Neju sat down in front of him with a gentle expression. The guards sent curious glances at the consideration that he bowed his head to make it easier to fasten his leash.

"He's a clever guy."

"That's what I mean."

Neju's furry hand rested on the back of Estio's, who was still hesitating.

"Bondage, Estio."

"But."

"it's okay. There is nothing you can't solve if you decide to solve it anyway."

Although he now looked like a gentle monkey, Neju was no ordinary white-haired monkey. When it gets angry, it turns into a monster so powerful that it can't be used with a sword or a bow. Estio was well aware of the fact that he had seen it in front of her eyes, but he could not easily put the chain around Neju's neck.

But there was no way. Estio glanced at the choke chain in my hand with cold, subdued eyes, and then slowly hung it around Neju's neck.

iron hull.

The chain was caught in the choke and tightened to fit Neju's neck. The noose-type chain had a function to make the animal more painful by squeezing its neck the more it resisted.

The security guards, who made sure they were wearing the correct leash, left the room with a grin.

"It was originally a 75-Bronze one. I'm just in Tokyo, so I don't think I know anything, so I just gave it to you as a service. You seem like a smart guy, but take good care of it."

Their last words were quite warm advice.

But Estio sat down on the floor helplessly, holding the chain in his hand.

"Estio?"

As Neju approached with a rustling sound, Estio shook his head and muttered a little.

"......do."

「?」

"Uh-huh. I'm sorry, for making you feel like this."

A long sigh flowed out in a white arc. Neju laughed out loud at his apology. She and she whispered softly like her friend sharing a secret.

"Estio is just like a mother."

"......Yes?"

When he lifted his bewildered face, he saw Neju smiling with his fangs exposed. The sky I could see behind me was cloudy as if my eyes were about to fall.

"My mother always looked at Neju and was like that. I'm sorry, I'm sorry......"

Neju wiggled her fingers as she recalled old memories.

"At first, I was curious about what I was sorry about, so I asked. No matter how much I asked, my mother didn't answer. But after hearing it often, I understand."

A cold snowflake fell on Estio's nose, who raised his head blankly.

White snow that twinkled like fireflies began to fall in the city bustling with busy people.

"I know. Mom's 'I'm sorry' means... 'I love you'."

so it's ok The young yeti let out a pleasant cry.

Estio slowly raised the corners of his lips. Her lips, which had always been rigid because she had nothing to smile, were awkward but clearly curved.

His eyes were warmer than anything he had experienced in 19 years.

* * *

Estio walked the snowy streets with Neju. First, I had to find a job. He didn't have enough money to buy a piece of bread right away. At this rate, instead of taking care of Neju, he might starve himself to death in the cold.

He ran out of town, but he didn't have a plan. If I was alone, I could have starved for a few days and recognized him slowly, but now Neju was by my side. Even if he didn't have the strength to protect him from danger, he couldn't make Neju starve.

He looked around the stores to see if there were any jobs. Of course, bakeries and restaurants chased him away with a single knife, who was carrying a large beast. There was no store that wanted to hire Estio, who was carrying a large animal and had a poor appearance.

The only income I got from selling for more than half a day was the fact that a large-scale guild was located in the center of this city. The guild they visited was in possession of the entire 7-story building.

<Customer satisfaction! Welcome to Ignis, a guild with the highest quest success rate of 99.9%.>

The letters on the building sign have been given a magical effect to keep them shining even in the dark. After taking a few deep breaths, Estio opened the door and entered the building.

"Welcome! This is the Customer Satisfaction 'Ignis' Guild. For inquiries, please take a numbered ticket from the window on the right and wait."

As soon as he entered, the blonde woman guarding the entrance kindly guided us. She was a beauty, dressed in a short leather skirt that exposed her slender legs up to her thighs, and a blouse that unbuttoned her three or four buttons to reveal her tight chest.

Estio, whose head was filled with the pressure of the job, was not surprised by her unconventional attire, but immediately brought out the business.

"I heard that you are recruiting new guild members."

"Oh, you're a new applicant. You can go up the stairs on the left and fill out the application form. If you don't know how to write."

"I learned to write. Then."

Estio nodded his head in gratitude and went up the stairs as the guide instructed. Every time he went up the stairs, the chain hanging from Neju's neck made a rattling noise. It wasn't my intention, but because of that, all the attention of the guild members who were organizing the documents on the second floor was focused on him.

"You?"

Before I could even fill out the application, a middle-aged man in a suit came up to me and asked.

"I came here because I was told that I was looking for a new guild member."

The man who glanced at Estio's ragged appearance scratched his chin as if in embarrassment.

'Hmm, you're a complete idiot.'

It was skinny and filthy in appearance, like a wrinkled donkey. There was only one peculiarity, the only white-haired monkey he had.

"Do you know what our guild does?"

"...I heard that it is a place that accepts requests and solves them."

"It's simple. Well, that's true."

The man took a business card from his pocket and handed it to Estio.

"Ignis Guild Galasia branch manager 'Hawk'."

"......This is Estio."

Estio, who took the business card that Hawk handed out, introduced herself one beat later. Hawk put his application aside and took Estio to the couch. Hawk beckoned him to sit down, who only stared blankly at the first soft leather sofa he had ever seen.

"Originally, we look at the documents first and decide whether to interview or not, but these days, there are too many requests and there is a shortage of manpower."

"Yes."

"These days, I feel like I want to borrow even a monkey's hand."

Hawk made a joke with his eyes on Neju, who was standing next to Estio. But no one laughed. When Hawke motioned for a second time to Estio, who was looking at him with expressionless eyes, he put his butt on the sofa.

Then the real interview began.

"Yes, Estio-kun. Where is your hometown?"

"It's the River Province."

"River, Rivera. Hey, is all the River region your hometown?"

"Yes?"

"Where are you referring to the River Region?"

"...Selvia Village."

"Hmm, Selvia Village."

Hawke dictated the information on a paper sheet himself.

"What's your specialty? Is it animal training?"

"...It's similar."

"It's similar? It's better not to use such expressions in the future. Let me know exactly, exactly. You need to know exactly what you are good at so that you can decide what kind of work you can put into it."

Hawk sternly asked for information, rubbing his mustache, which had grown to an eight-point figure. Estio, who had the experience of being treated coldly the more he revealed his abilities, responded with a slightly different answer instead of speaking frankly.

"You can read the minds of animals."

The pen that had been scratching the paper indifferently stopped abruptly.

'Hey, was he a superpower?'

If true, the guild would welcome it with open arms.

'But what about the ability to read the minds of animals? It's an ability I've never heard of...'

Wizard, Elementalist, Alchemist, Healer, Priest, Sword Knight.

There are many types of superpowers in the world.

There were those who manipulated the magical powers that make up the world to perform magic, those who made contracts with the spirits that support nature, and those who were born with special abilities such as finding and using special laws and healing wounds that were opened at once. Those who were not born with any abilities had the highest percentage, and those with special abilities were only a few.

Most of the talents could be classified within a broad framework. However, the ability Estio spoke of now was an unfamiliar power that did not apply anywhere else.

'It's not a human being, it's an animal. This is true.'

Since his ability was his ability, he could not immediately determine whether his words were true or false. Hawk put down his pen with a puzzled expression.

"......?"

Estio just stared blankly at the staring gaze with a complicated heart. Hawk looked at the old-fashioned old-fashioned attire once more, and sighed in vain.

"Excuse me for this. If I had told you right away that I was a talented person, this interview would not have been necessary."

In other words, from the guild's point of view, Estio was a card that was not turned over.

Depending on what came up on the card, it would be a full house or a fair-looking pair.

Hawk began to swipe to see the value of the card.
