    Chapter 119

Yu Ying felt a bit restless these past few days, not because of the clinic’s business.

The clinic had been running smoothly since its opening, with appointments scheduled for both mornings and afternoons on the second floor, so there was no need for worry.

What was causing her restlessness was Fu Wei.

She had agreed to be a real couple, but she didn't know what he was thinking.

Fu Wei had been acting somewhat strangely these past few days.

He was always busy with work at the government office, often coming home half an hour late, and then he would immediately go to the study.

Being busy at the clinic during the day, she was often tired and would fall asleep as soon as she lay down, resulting in them having little conversation despite sleeping together these past few days.

After a few days, Yu Ying sensed that Fu Wei was avoiding her.

    But what was he avoiding?

After much thought, Yu Ying guessed why Fu Wei was acting this way.

Without having officially married, how could he possibly consummate their relationship?

His behavior in recent days, especially after almost consummating their relationship that night, seemed to be driven by fear of losing self-control again.

After realizing this, Yu Ying felt a mix of helplessness and surprise. Logically, after agreeing to marry, Fu Wei should have quickly discussed the formal wedding ceremony with her.

But why was there no movement on this now?

For Yu Ying, whether they had an official wedding ceremony or not didn’t really affect anything. After all, a relationship is not sustained merely by a ceremony or a marriage certificate.

But it mattered to Fu Wei because he treasured it; hence, he cared.

It was unlike Fu Wei to do nothing at all.

Yu Ying speculated that Fu Wei might be secretly preparing something.

With this realization, Yu Ying suddenly felt enlightened.

Understanding his actions, a smile appeared on her face as she looked towards the study.

As March and April were quite humid, Yu Ying brewed red bean and lotus seed soup to dispel the dampness.

Yu Ying prepared a bowl of sweet soup to take to Fu Wei.

Upon knocking and entering the room, she found Fu Wei reading a scroll of bamboo slips. He put them down and turned his head towards her as she entered.

"I made sweet soup and noticed you didn't come out, so I brought some in for you," she said, glancing at the bamboo slips on the table, and deliberately asked, "Why have you been so busy these days?"

Fu Wei looked down at the bamboo slips, which he had picked up only upon hearing the knock, and replied, "There's a lot to handle at the office, it’s been busy."

Fu Wei could maintain a composed facade in front of others, but around Yu Ying, he was somewhat awkward.

Yu Ying, seeing through his facade but not pointing it out, placed the sweet soup on the table and said, "Drink your soup first."

As Fu Wei began to sip the soup, Yu Ying moved behind him, and soon, gentle hands rested on his shoulders.

"You've been busy these past few days; your shoulders and neck must be tired. Let me massage them for you."

For some reason, Yu Ying felt the urge to tease him.

Fu Wei, planning a surprise for her, naturally couldn't disclose it, but still said, "It's just some miscellaneous tasks, not too tiring."

"Sometimes you don't notice the fatigue. Why don't we go to the room, and you take off your upper clothes? I can use essential oils to massage your back. How about that?"

Fu Wei was startled, and then as if Yu Ying wanted to show him the method, her hands suddenly slid from his shoulders down to the lower part of his back, starting from the depressed area of the spine.

    Fu Wei tensed up immediately.

"After I apply essential oil on your back, I can massage you like this, pushing outwards from the center," she said, moving her palms outwards from his waist.

Yu Ying's face held a faint smile.

    Fu Wei: ...

No, he felt that she wasn't just explaining how to do the massage, but rather doing it intentionally.

With Yu Ying's movements, even someone as serious as Fu Wei couldn't help but have his thoughts wander on how the essential oil massage was performed.

He had been avoiding her lately precisely because he feared losing control in a moment of passion.

His eyes darkened, and then he spoke in a hoarse voice, “No need for such trouble. I won't need to stay on duty after these next two days, and you’re also tired from working at the clinic during the day. Don’t worry about me.”

Yu Ying withdrew her hands, leaned in, and hugged him from behind, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and neck, mimicking the way he usually embraced her, resting her chin on his shoulder and speaking into his ear.

“I care about you, how could I not?”

Feeling the warm breath on his ear, Fu Wei sensed that his body tensed up even more than before.

He had left her hanging earlier.

Yu Ying's lips curved slightly, then she stood up, saying, “Then I’ll massage you in a few days. Finish up your work and rest early.”

Saying this, she walked out of the room.

Fu Wei finally relaxed, looking towards the door of the study, thinking to himself that he only needed to endure for two more days.

The marriage certificate couldn’t change the name, but the marriage was indeed with her.

Fu Wei lowered his gaze, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

Perhaps because of the magistrate’s wife, Lady Chen, and some of the elite merchant wives who had received treatments from Yu Ying and had spoken about it in their circles, the business on the second floor of the clinic was thriving.

However, since she also had to see patients, she could only accept one appointment each in the morning and afternoon.

After a busy day, Yu Ying returned home with her sister-in-law and Fu An.

When they reached their alley, the neighbors curiously asked, "Lady Yu, is your family preparing for some celebration?"

Yu Ying was momentarily puzzled and asked, “What do you mean?”

The neighbor replied, “This noon, Master Fu brought back quite a few people and carried many things into your house.”

Even Wen Xing was surprised and whispered, “I didn’t hear anything about hosting a banquet?”

Yu Ying seemed to realize something, a faint smile appearing in her eyes.

Seeing Yu Ying smiling, Wen Xing inquired, “Sister-in-law, do you know what's going on?”

Yu Ying shook her head, “We’ll find out when we get home.”

As they approached their house and knocked on the door, it was opened by Wu, the young assistant from the office.

Seeing Yu Ying, he grinned and said, “Congratulations, Lady Yu!”

Wen Xing and Fu An stood there, stunned.

Entering the courtyard, they saw it festively decorated, with the character for 'joy' prominently displayed, and red lanterns hung up, clearly indicating a wedding was to take place.

Several clerks from the office were helping in the courtyard, including Luo, the historical recorder, and Huo, the clerk.

Upon seeing Yu Ying, they all smiled and congratulated her, “Congratulations, Lady Yu.”

Wen Xing and her son were so shocked by the festive atmosphere in the courtyard and the clerks' words that they were left speechless, not understanding what was happening.

Wen Xing, seeing her mother-in-law busy in the kitchen, hurried over to ask, “Mother, who is getting married?”

Luo Shi looked up with a smile and said, “Who else could it be?”

Seeing her daughter-in-law approaching, Luo Shi beckoned eagerly, "Lady Yu, come here quickly."

    Yu Ying walked over.

Wen Xing suddenly realized, "Brother Fu and sister-in-law?!"

Luo Shi nodded, saying, "Fu Wei mentioned that their wedding ceremony wasn’t complete and he didn’t want to let Yu Ying down, so they're arranging a small ceremony, just the wedding vows and a meal for the neighbors and the He family."

She added with a helpless smile, "Fu Wei and the elder brother kept it a secret from us. The grand preparation earlier scared me."

Huo's wife, helping in the kitchen, laughed, "I thought Master Fu had discussed it with you. It's a surprise he kept it from everyone."

Although Yu Ying had guessed it, seeing the festive atmosphere outside filled her heart with warmth.

Her Fu Wei always brought a sense of security.

Everyone's eyes turned to Yu Ying, eager to see her reaction. Seeing her eyes brimming with joy, they knew she was pleasantly surprised.

At that moment, Mrs. Huo put down her work and pulled Yu Ying, saying, "The bride needs to get ready. Hurry and change into your wedding dress."

Fu An looked around, "Grandma, where’s uncle?"

Luo Shi answered, "He's in your study, changing into his wedding attire."

Yu Ying was escorted by several women to get ready.

Knowing when she would return, hot water had been prepared in advance. Mrs. Huo and two other women urged her to bathe quickly.

After Yu Ying had bathed, the women sat her down at the dressing table to style her hair and apply makeup.

One of the women exclaimed, "Lady Yu, the spots on your face have really lightened. With a bit of makeup, oh my, you look stunning."

"Don’t even mention it, with Lady Yu looking like this, Master Fu won’t even remember his directions."

Yu Ying smiled nonchalantly, knowing that Fu Wei had seen her without the spots before.

After applying a layer of powder to conceal her faint spots and a thin blush, Yu Ying's lips were adorned with bright rouge.

With makeup transforming her appearance, the plain-faced woman now radiated youthful charm, no longer just a simple hairdo. The women couldn't help but express their amazement.

The thought of tonight's wedding ceremony stirred a touch of envy.

They mused how many girls were sent to their husband's home with just a few clothes, while Master Fu insisted on a proper wedding ceremony for Lady Yu, showing his special regard for her.

Dressed in a green bridal gown, Mrs. Huo handed Yu Ying a round fan, advising, "The auspicious hour hasn't arrived yet, just wait a little longer."

After finishing with Yu Ying, they left to assist with other preparations. At the door, Yu Ying overheard Mrs. Huo reminding Fu Wei, "Master Fu, the bride and groom shouldn't see each other before the wedding vows."

Yu Ying couldn't help but laugh silently to herself. She and Fu Wei had shared a room for half a year, almost like an old married couple, yet now they were bride and groom.

Once alone, Yu Ying took the time to look around the room.

The red decorations everywhere revealed the effort Fu Wei had put into planning their wedding.

After a short while, Mrs. Huo returned, announcing the arrival of the auspicious moment.

Yu Ying, initially calm, felt a surge of nervousness as she was about to step out.

After all, it was her first wedding in two lifetimes – how could she not feel a bit anxious?

Spotting Fu Wei in the wedding sedan, their eyes met, sharing a smile.

After the wedding ceremony, Yu Ying was escorted back to her room, along with Fu Wei.

A shared cup of wedding wine marked the completion of the ceremony.

As the celebration began outside, Yu Ying, putting down her wine cup, teased, "Aren’t you going to explain? I just got back and was whisked away to be a bride. Weren’t you afraid I’d suddenly change my mind and refuse to marry?"

Locking gazes, both brimming with laughter, Fu Wei replied, "You wouldn’t. Besides, you guessed it, didn’t you?"

Indeed, they both understood the unspoken awareness between them, choosing not to articulate it.

Fu Wei reached out, gently cupping her cheek, his gaze tender and his voice low and gentle, "Yu Ying, I’m finally married to you. I’m so happy."

Yu Ying tilted her head, gently rubbing against his palm.

Outside, someone called out, "The groom can't hide away; it's time to come out and toast!"

Following this, others joined in with similar shouts.

Yu Ying gently nudged Fu Wei towards the door, saying, "You should go, but drink less."

Shortly after Fu Wei left, Luo Shi brought in a meal, her eyes reddening as she looked at her daughter-in-law.

    "Mother, what's wrong?"

Holding Yu Ying's hand, Luo Shi's voice trembled with emotion, "Yu Ying, thank you... truly, thank you. Without you, what would have become of the Fu family? You are our benefactor; without you, our family would surely have fallen apart."

Tears welled in her eyes as she embraced Yu Ying tightly.

Yu Ying gently patted Luo Shi's back, comforting her.

Luo Shi, struggling to hold back her tears, whispered, "I've always known, you're not just Yu Ying to us. No matter who you are, I wish for you a lifetime of health, painlessness, and happiness."

Hearing this, Yu Ying's eyes slightly reddened, but her lips curved into a smile.

"Don’t worry, Mother, I'll lead a peaceful and safe life."

Releasing Yu Ying, Luo Shi quickly turned away to wipe her tears, laughing, "Look at me, crying on such a joyous day. I'm making a fool of myself."

Luo Shi's words stirred a memory of Yu Ying's mother.

If she were getting married, her mother would probably say the same.

Yu Ying, with a tender expression, clasped Luo Shi's hand, leaning on her shoulder, cherishing this moment of maternal love.

After a while, she whispered softly, "Mother, this is my home, there's no need for too many thanks."

Luo Shi, embracing her daughter-in-law, had gentleness in her eyes.

    "Yu Ying, be well."

Yu Ying, taken aback, slightly surprised, asked, "Mother, you..."

Luo Shi gently shushed her, explaining, "Last year, after the hurricane when you were ill, you talked in your sleep. I knew then."

Although Fu Wei took care of her, during her body wash, he had Uncle He carry him out.

It was then that Luo Shi overheard.

She cried out in her sleep, insisting she was Yu Ying, not Yu Liu Niang.

After sitting together for a while, Luo Shi went out to entertain the neighbors.

As night fell and the feast concluded.

After the neighbors helped clean up and the last guests departed, Fu Wei rose from his wheelchair, washed off the smell of alcohol, and brought hot water back to the room for Yu Ying to wash up.

Yu Ying removed her makeup and washed off the spots on her face. With proper care, her skin was even whiter and more delicate than when she first arrived.

The couple found themselves sitting on the bed, where Fu Wei gently loosened Yu Ying's hair bun. Her long black hair, slightly curly and soft, cascaded down, covering her face like the size of a palm.

Her soft, loose hair framed her face beautifully.

Fu Wei's hand gently slid from the top of her head down to her ears, and as his thumb touched her lips, he leaned in before she could react.

Their kisses grew more passionate, and gradually, her clothes were cast aside. Through the bed curtains, one could vaguely see Fu Wei's muscular arms supporting him on the bed.

Fu Wei's voice, heavy with emotion, called out, "Ah Ying, Ah Ying, Ah Ying..."

With each call, his embrace tightened, as if wanting to merge her completely into himself.

He had finally fulfilled his long-held desire, his Ah Ying.
