Tang Tianyuan walked all the way to the Southern Study. Without bothering to knock on the door, he opened the courtyard door and walked in. He was just in time to see Tan Lingyin coming out of her room with a bag on her back. She heard the movement at the door and looked over. When she saw it was Tang Tianyuan, Tan Lingyin’s face darkened. She immediately retreated back into her room, and slammed the door shut.

Tang Tianyuan rushed over. He begged for forgiveness while knocking on the door. But this time Tan Lingyin just ignored him. Tang Tianyuan was anxious and wanted to knock down the door.

He turned and before his shoulder touched the door, Tan Lingyin suddenly opened the door from the inside, Tang Tianyuan almost fell into Tan Lingyin's arms. The latter seemed to have expected this as she dodged his incoming body.

Taking advantage of Tang Tianyuan staggering in the room, Tan Lingyin hurried out.

After Tang Tianyuan stood firm, he hurried out to chase her. Without thinking too much, he hugged her from behind, "My little ancestor! Even if you let me die, there must be a reason. Don’t leave me without saying anything!"

Tan Lingyin struggled. "Let go of me!"

But Tang Tianyuan hugged her tighter. "No! Unless you give me a valid explanation! I've already belonged to you, so you have to be responsible for me!"

"You, you..." Tan Lingyin was furious and didn't know how to counter him. Her face was flushed as she still wanted to break free from his grasp.

Madam Tang watched, dumbfounded, from the crack of the door. Was this really her son? Her son? Really? ...

"Yinyin..." Tang Tianyuan changed his tactic. Using his tender voice, he called out "Yinyin" repeatedly. Tan Lingyin's heart trembled at his cry.

Tan Lingyin was afraid that he would say something more shameless, so she gave up struggling. "Tang Tianyuan, do you like me? Or do you like my hands and feet?"

Tang Tianyuan was a little puzzled. "What are you talking about? Your limbs are attached to your body. What's the difference between the two?"

Tan Lingyin changed the question. "Then if my limbs were cut off, would you still like me?"

"Don’t talk nonsense, that will never happen."

"I mean ‘if’. Answer me."

Tang Tianyuan was silent for a while. His thoughts were a little muddled, as if something crucial flashed through his mind. He wanted to sort everything out.

His silence had another meaning in Tan Lingyin's eyes. She smiled wryly, "I understand." As she spoke, she pushed away Tang Tianyuan who was still lost in thought.

Tang Tianyuan suddenly grabbed her, "I also understand!"

Tan Lingyin was a little tired and remained silent. But she still held a glimmer of hope in her heart, wanting to hear what he suddenly understood.

"Yinyin, you probably misunderstood. Having beautiful hands and feet is just like having a beautiful face. Even if it’s not commonly seen, it's also not unique. What you have, others will also, and many people at that. Does that make sense?" Tang Tianyuan said as he caressed her face and smiled, "Others have it too, but I don't like theirs. I only like yours."

Tan Lingyin's eyes turned red, her heart softened a little, but her face was still firm. She turned her head and retorted, "Those are just sugar-coated words."

Tang Tianyuan persuaded anxiously, "Really! Everyone has their preferences, that is of no surprise. But I'm not a womanizer, and it's not the first day you know me. Have you ever seen me flirt with other women for this reason? Listen to me, even if these words come out crude. If my feelings for you were really so shallow, why would I bother to inform my elders that I want to marry you?"

Tan Lingyin opened her mouth, but felt that her throat was congested and she couldn't say a word.

Tang Tianyuan held her hand and clasped it on his chest. "Believe me, my heart belongs to you. I want to stay with you forever."

Tan Lingyin's tears flowed down. She raised her sleeves to wipe away the tears, and cried, "I'm just afraid..."

Originally, there was a huge disparity in family background, so Tan Lingyin was always under a lot of pressure, especially after meeting Madam Tang. She fell into self-doubt, desperately trying to find some reason why Tang Tianyuan was so adamant about her. However it was a fruitless search, she was not worthy of him at all. It just so happened she heard about his secret, she seemed to grasp the truth at once, and then became muddle headed and desperate...

As soon as she started to cry, Tang Tianyuan's heart softened. He comforted her softly, "Okay, I understand, don't be afraid. If you don't believe me, I will make a solemn oath to you. If I, Tang Tianyuan, betray you in the future—"

Tan Lingyin quickly blocked his mouth. "Don't! Don't swear! Swearing is not good."

Her fingers pressed against his lips. Tang Tianyuan lowered his gaze and wandered over her hands. He looked up at Tan Lingyin, with curved lips and a meaningful smile in his eyes.

Tan Lingyin blushed, and hurriedly withdrew her hand. After knowing his secret, her fingertips were full of ambiguity. Wherever she put her hands could be seen as provocative and seducing, it was better not to know.

The couple quieted down. Tang Tianyuan continued to look at her with a smile, the atmosphere was so ambiguous that it felt almost sticky and hot. It was a cold day, the sun had just risen, and it was not warm at all. However, the two of them stood outside and neither of them felt cold.

Madam Tang watched with great interest from outside the door of the courtyard. If she wasn't worried about being discovered, she would have probably continued to watch for a while longer, but now she could only leave first. Madam Tang looked at her son with a newfound admiration. He was a noble son who knew how to play hooligan, yet was still a natural romantic. He was much better at coaxing girls than his father. It was quite extraordinary for him to be able to switch freely between so many roles.

The girl was a little silly. She quarreled so fiercely yesterday but she was coaxed with a few words today. She didn't take the opportunity to raise any conditions.

In short, she wore her heart on her sleeves.

This showed that Tan Lingyin treated Tianyuan sincerely.

Unfortunately, just being sincere was not enough. This girl’s conditions failed in all other aspects. She came from a merchant background, her behavior frivolous. She ran away from an arranged marriage, and even had an affair with a man before marriage...

Madam Tang naturally couldn't tolerate these.
