Chapter 207 Overestimation

Xiang Ning felt awful looking at the dead black-robed man. He had never killed a man before. “How could he be so messed up?”

Then again, this Seven Deadly Sins follower didn’t look like a good person at all. Putting aside the fact that he wanted to kill Fang Rou, these people were creating hordes of berserk beasts to attack the fortress, which had led to so many deaths. He deserved death for that crime alone.

So that was why Balamu’s berserk factor could be found here, in a place far from the Great Blue River. There were people behind it all.

Time was ticking. Xiang Ning scratched his head, unsure of what to do. After some thought, he took off the man’s black outer robes and turned to look at a beast not far away, sending a flying knife at its butt. Why didn’t he send it at its leg or another body part? Xiang Ning didn’t know. All he knew was that striking a beast’s butt was great for provoking it. It seemed to be a curious feature of nature.

As expected, the beast turned and his Fury Points increased.

It roared in fury, charging at him, though Xiang Ning had long disappeared up the tree. It was a tier two, seven-star Boulder Boar. It looked at the recently-dead, still-warm body on the ground and grunted, rushing over to feed. Human martial artists were a nutritious source of food!

The two other members arrived much later, when the boar was already finishing its meal. They froze in shock when they saw the horrific scene.

“Wha-what happened?!”

“What’re you doing standing there? Kill it!”

“Are you dumb? Don’t you see that it’s already evolving after its meal? We’ll die if we go now!”

“What do we do?”

“Nothing much we can do. We’ll check on the body when it’s done eating.”

“Alright.”

After about five minutes, the Boulder Boar was done eating and left along with its heavy huffs and puffs.

When the two men went forward to check, their brows furrowed instantly at the gory scene, struggling to keep their food down.

“He was too careless!” said the man.

Xiang Ning’s mind instantly raced when he saw the man surveying the scene. He went over every possible flaw of the scene. One, there were no signs of struggle, and that was a Boulder Boar. It was a huge animal, how could he not have noticed? Two, other than a wound on its butt, the Boulder Boar had no other wounds. That was a tier two, nine-star martial artist it ate!

Just as Xiang Ning was getting ready to kill them both—

“What?” asked one of them.

“Look, the weapons weren’t even completely packed up yet. It’s obvious he wasn’t focused and didn’t pay attention to his surroundings. It’s that thing he always does.… Sigh, ever since he confessed and got rejected, he seemed normal but suddenly spaced out at random times. Sigh, he was too careless.”

“I see. What do we do now then?”

“Pack up. See if there’s any bones, we’ll take them with us. He’s still our boss after all.”

“Alright.”

Xiang Ning was speechless as he watched them leave, looking at the knives in his hand. He scratched his head. Looks like I overestimated their intelligence. He stroked his chin and decided to follow them, but if they went too far, he would give up. Activating Disguise, he followed them for about ten minutes until they arrived at an abandoned village. Most of the houses had already collapsed and had dense weeds and grass growing in them.

About ten people stood in a patch of empty ground. Sensing something, Xiang Ning hid in a dilapidated house and peeked at the black-robed people.

“Hound, why’re there only the two of you? Where’s Viper?”

“Due to his own carelessness, he was ambushed by a beast and died.”

“Tsk, what an imbecile. That’s fine, the Fang girl has already arrived at the outpost. We’ll head to where Bird is now. I heard the girl’s very pretty. It’s been too long since we arrived in the wilderness and we still haven’t gotten any action. Finally, everyone can have some fun.”

The group snickered.

“Hmm? That laughter was a little cold. Alright, let’s pack up and get ready to leave.”

They didn’t know that Xiang Ning had taken it all in.

“No, I must quickly find Fang Rou!” Xiang Ning slowly slid out of the house, then slipped away, hidden in the dense grass.

Back on the road, he got on his Windbreaker and sped toward the outpost where Fang Rou was. Looking at the pin on the map, he was half a day’s journey away from her and would arrive in the evening.

On the other side, the Seven Deadly Sins followers who were monitoring the outpost realized that the rescue team only stayed for an hour before leaving, and reported it to their leader.

“Lord Bird, they’re preparing to leave. Please advise.”

“Slow them down, attract some beasts over to attack the outpost. Not too many, just ensure that it’s continuous. Wait for Toad and the rest to arrive.”

“Yes, my lord.”

......

Within Tranquil City’s Central Tower, more than ten men and women sat at a circular table in a spacious conference room. One man had a dark, icy expression while the rest did not dare to even take a breath. This man was the patriarch of the Fang family, Fang Zhenyuan. He was a phenomenal tier seven master, with abilities equivalent to a Beast King.

“Dojo Master Fang, this is a critical period. If you leave Tranquil City, the city will be in danger!”

Fang Zhenyuan leaned back in his chair, sighing deeply. He softly chuckled, too lazy to even look at their faces. He stood up, then turned to walk out of the room while a middle-aged man next to him rushed over.

“Old Fang! Old Fang! Don’t act rashly.”

“Don’t act rashly? My children are now pawns in their scheme... all of this just to drag me into battle! How can I sit and wait?”

Why was it so rare to see masters tier seven and above in this war against the stampedes in the wilderness? That was because both sides had come to an unspoken rule that those masters weren’t to be mobilized unless the fortresses had fallen and the cities were in mortal danger. The moment a master appeared, it was guaranteed that a tier seven Beast King would appear on the other side. One must understand that a Beast King ruled over a territory that contained millions of beasts. If they were to go berserk, one could only imagine the hefty price that humanity must pay to hold them off.

This time, the Octoviolet Silversnake was located near the Great Blue River, which had at least three Beast Kings in the vicinity. If Fang Zhenyuan left the city to kill the Octoviolet Silversnake, the three Beast Kings would definitely launch an attack. However, although they would likely lose a tier seven master this way, to remove the root cause of the beast attacks, to some people, was worth it.
