Ch95 - Brain Invasion

Translator-Rhapsodite

Editor-CherryApple, Proofreader-adjective

Jiang Fang looked at the blonde girl’s snow-white face and smiled calmly. “Of course.”

The blonde girl glanced at him with curious eyes, he had remained unfazed by the sudden change of attires and landscape. “Do you have any questions?”

Jiang Fang, “Will you answer honestly to any of my questions?”

The young lady smiled slightly and said, “Please ask.”

Jiang Fang, “Why thirteen doors?”

He remembered that there was indeed a story about thirteen doors in a fairy tale.

Going against the Virgin Mary’s warnings, the young girl had opened the forbidden thirteenth door.

However, the girl refused to admit to her wrongdoing and hence was severely punished.

Jiang Fang had to be careful that the doors he would open were indeed doors to survival, and not a trap that someone had laid for him.

The blonde girl laughed and said, “Because I like the number eleven. And you have two friends. The number of doors is never fixed. After all, the more significant a person is to you, the longer the journey you must take to get to them, right?

Jiang Fang nodded.

The princess in the fairy tale had eleven brothers who were turned into wild swans.

It was a valid point.

He continued to ask, “Will all of the thirteen doors lead directly to the end? Is there a fork in the middle? Do I need to make a choice?”

The blonde girl replied “Yes. No. No need.”

Jiang Fang, “When I reach the end, will I still see the real Nan Zhou?”

T/N- JF please don’t forget about LY. T_T

Hearing this question, the blonde girl’s eyes showed a faint light.

Instead of answering this time, she asked seriously, “Why don’t you ask about that girl?”

T/N- Even the game is aware of the double standards LMAO!

Jiang Fang, “What’s the difference? They’re together.”

When she wasn’t talking about the mission, her eyes had a different glint to them.

A little ambiguous and gossipy.

She put her hands behind her back and asked with a straightforward smile, “You and that Nan Zhou, are lovers?”

Jiang Fang thought about it for a moment and shook his head mildly.

——Not yet.

“Friends?”

Jiang Fang shook his head very firmly this time.

——He was getting sick of the word “friend”.

The young girl still wanted to guess, but Jiang Fang made a gesture to stop.

Realizing she had gone off track, she blushed and fixed her fluffy, curly hair, returning to her initial state.

She said, “There are no forks in the road. So, when you reach the end, you will be able to meet and take away the person you want. Besides, you’ve seen Nan Zhou in his transformed state, so you can recognize him.”

She paused, “Time is running out.”

Jiang Fang got the hint, and said politely, “Okay.”

He put on a gentle smile that was no different from the previous one and asked his last question:

“If I kill you here, can I clear the level directly?”

“You’re amusing. I am the guide and the only person who could open the doors to victory for you. Although no one has tried this method before, you are more than welcome to try.”

As she spoke, she raised her slender neck slightly and used her index finger to point at her fragile throat.

Surprisingly, it was a very generous invitation.

Jiang Fang laughed, “Sorry. It’s just a joke.”

The blonde girl’s index finger slid down her throat and landed on her collarbone, “I guessed as much.”

The two people who were masters at fake smiles looked at each other and laughed.

The blonde girl gave an elegant farewell salute, “Then, I’ll see you at the finish line.”

Jiang Fang gently picked up his skirt and bowed down to return the salute, “Thank you.”

The roles of gentleman and lady switched.

Even when he was seriously considering whether to use [Right Hand Light Finger Chain] to break the girl’s neck, his smile didn’t waver in any way.

He not only obtained the information about the instance, but also managed to probe into the girl’s heart.

Aside from a gentle false smile, she was curious and had her own selfish desires.

But she did not possess the emotion “fear”.

Jiang Fang could see that she was really not afraid that he could kill her.

Why?

Was it because she was strong? An NPC of the same level as Nan Zhou?

Because she was really innocent enough to believe that he was joking with her?

Or was it because…

Jiang Fang thought about it and remembered the sentence in the mission description.

“There will not be any ‘foreign objects’ that will threaten the life or safety of the ‘Princess’…

Did “life or safety” here mean absolute immunity?

As he thought about it, he went to look for the most important prop of this mission.

The nettle clothing was not difficult to find.

Four or five steps away from him, there was a beautifully decorated box.

The words “Nettle Clothes” were written on the box.

It could be said that it was very considerate.

Jiang Fang picked up the box and opened it to check.

Inside were a pair of neatly folded clothes in a light brown color, once the box was opened, a faint scent of fragrant dried plants floated up.

Instead of picking them up with his hands, he instead used the handle of the dagger to lift them out of the box.

The box was an ordinary box, with no built-in mechanism.

There weren’t any written or pictorial messages inside or outside the walls of the box.

The clothing rustled from Jiang Fang’s movements.

When he tried to touch the nettle dress with the back of his hand, there was a burning pain, just like the description in the fairy tale.

Even after a careful and thorough inspection, Jiang Fang couldn’t find anything amiss.

Such an important prop was lying out in the open without any underlying traps.

As if it were a puzzle-solving type treasure hunt game for children to play.

Jiang Fang closed the box and stored it away in his storage slot.

It went unimpeded.

He wasn’t required to wear the nettle clothes, nor hold it in his hands.

The game even provided Jiang Fang with a box.

This way he only had to use one storage slot to store it.

It could simply be said that the game was full of good intentions.

The first level looked far too easy.

Jiang Fang, however, did not take it lightly.

Because he knew it would never be this simple.

He raised his skirt, bathed in the dazzling golden light, and stepped on the lush green, moving towards the square black spot in the distance, one step at a time.

Jiang Fang observed while he walked to the end.

Because this world was rectangular shaped, it followed the same layout as a side-scrolling game like Super Mario, just going from one end to the other.

The difference was that there were no walking mushrooms, no turtles, no hidden bricks, and no piranha plants that could swallow people along the way.

There were no obstacles, no danger.

Jiang Fang intentionally suppressed his pace and rhythm.

Therefore, he took nearly six minutes to reach that small black spot at the end.

It was indeed a door.

A square-shaped, Western-style doorway.

The door was a stately dark red color, and the door handle was made of dazzling pure gold.

The main body of the Damascus Door was engraved with exquisite carvings of eleuthero.

Jiang Fang placed his hand on the door handle.

The handle was made of pure gold, when touched it gave a cold metal feeling.

He applied some force and turned the door handle.

The doorway opened.

Immediately, a light penetrated, engulfing Jiang Fang’s whole figure.

When his feet stepped back onto the soft grass, Jiang Fang realized that he had successfully cleared the first door.

Jiang Fang looked back and was faced with a dark blue door with an enticing luster, like the starry sky.

Inside, it seemed to hide a galaxy, or a black hole.

This should be the door that the blonde girl said he could use to leave at any time.

Jiang Fang took a step back and kept away from it, cutting his fingertips with the dagger he carried at all times, using pain to verify that he wasn’t hallucinating.

Looking back, the scene behind the second door didn’t differ much from the one he had just walked through..

Only the terrain had somewhat changed a little.

He was on top of a small, undulating hill.

Except for the slightly rugged road beneath his feet, the rest looked exactly the same, the sky was still a velvety blue, and the grass a luscious green.

Around 800 meters away, there was another small black dot.

He looked around and in all directions, everything looked clear.

All the external information was telling him to walk ahead with confidence.

He walked all the way to the second door but did not rush to enter.

He lifted his skirt, got down on one knee, and pressed the land underneath with his palm.

It was soft to the touch.

On the turquoise like turf, even with his thin little heels on, Jiang Fang could feel the same softness as stepping on a carpet made of fur.

Everything seemed so calm and peaceful that it was difficult to feel afraid or stay vigilant.

Jiang Fang, on the other hand, was never distracted by such deceptive beauty.

He raised the dagger, and in front of the door, which stood just a step away, he thrust the sharp object into the ground.

Clang…

The sharp blade of the dagger easily pierced the turf, then collided with the ground, resounding with a harsh metallic noise.

Jiang Fang’s expression changed.

——Anomaly, found.

The land here was extraordinarily hard.

So hard that it couldn’t be destroyed with ordinary props.

If it had been Li Yinhang who came, she might not have been able to detect such an abnormality so quickly.

According to Jiang Fang’s observation, she preferred to wear flat heels and sports shoes.

Suddenly wearing high heels, and stepping on a layer of soft and thick turf for cushioning, most people had no way to immediately notice the abnormality of the ground.

He still had some expertise evaluating the softness of the ground after stepping on it with heels on.

The soil and rocks here were unusually hard.

Although he didn’t know what effect this would have on his future journey, Jiang Fang made a silent note of it, while pushing open the second door.

After the third door, the sloping angle of the ground became more and more obvious.

Followed by the fourth door.

The fifth door.

The sixth door.

There was indeed no danger on the way for the “Princess”, but it was getting increasingly difficult and precipitous to walk on the ground.

By the time he got to the seventh door, the small black dot 800 meters away had completely disappeared from his field of vision.

Towering in front of him was a cliff about eight meters high.

The cliff did not have a curved road nor gaps that could be used to climb it.

It was a straight mountain wall.

Probably in order to make the “Princess” feel better, the mountain wall was full of brilliant grass and mountain flowers.

But apart from serving as decoration, there was no other function to it.

Jiang Fang said to himself in his heart, “Here we go”.

He went forward and tested again with his dagger to see if he could penetrate the wall.

Sure enough, the mountain wall was as hard as a diamond.

It was impossible for the dagger to pierce through.

There was no way to use the [Right Hand Light Finger Chain].

There was no object above or below the mountain wall to help the climber climb.

The S-class prop [Silent Burst] only had one chance left for usage.

Jiang Fang didn’t know whether it would be able to destroy the mountain wall with one punch with its instant strength concentration, or if there would be harder scenes in the future, or if it was even worth wasting it here.

Fortunately, before he set off, Nan Zhou and Li Yinhang had given him all the props that might be useful.

… Including [Ma Liang’s Sketchbook] which only had two more chances left to be used.

Jiang Fang stood at the foot of the cliff, and after a moment of contemplation, he drew a ladder.

When marking the data next to the ladder, he initially wrote down ten meters.

However, after thinking about it, he scribbled off the original data.

The next second, a twenty-meter ladder was erected on the cliff.

Without any hesitation, Jiang Fang stepped on the ladder and climbed upward with flexible movements.

When climbing, Jiang Fang’s eyes were almost closed.

He “forced” himself not to look down as much as possible, convincing himself that a height of eight meters was still bearable to him.

He also remembered that anything produced through [Ma Liang’s Sketchbook] had an effective duration of only 3 minutes.

Therefore, after he climbed to the top, he immediately took the ladder back to the storage slot, took off his high heels, carried his skirt, and ran to the end.

The good thing was that after climbing over this eight-meter-high cliff, there was no other mountain wall.

The 800-meter road was completed in 2 minutes and 14 seconds, which was not very difficult for Jiang Fang.

Running to the eighth door, Jiang Fang immediately pressed down the door handle.

After pushing open the eighth door, the sight that greeted Jiang Fang was a vertical cliff around twenty meters high.

Mountain flowers and green grass were everywhere.

Jiang Fang took a deep breath, set up the ladder and immediately started to climb.

When he was just a few steps away from the top, Jiang Fang’s instinct tingled quickly.

As soon as the danger radar sounded in his mind, he immediately responded, exhausting all his strength he leapt upward, and grabbed the edge of the cliff wall with one hand.

Not a moment later, the ladder beneath his feet disappeared into thin air.

Hanging onto the edge of the cliff, the intense sense of weightlessness made Jiang Fang grasp at the rock beside the cliff, making his fingers go sore and soft.

The overwhelming ringing in his ears came and went like a tidal wave.

He himself didn’t know how he managed to scale the top of the cliff.

He sat for a long time before easing over the numbness of nerves and muscle tension brought on by his fear of heights.

Jiang Fang chose to conserve his physical strength and breathe smoothly, then stood up and slowly walked towards the finish line.

The feeling of soft grass rubbing over his toes could barely calm down his unsteady breathing.

When he pressed his hand on the handle of the ninth door, Jiang Fang already had an inkling about what he was going to face behind that door.

But after pushing open the door, what appeared in front of him was not what he expected.

——Behind the door, there is a cliff about 30 meters high.

Just by gazing at it, Jiang Fang had the illusion of panic and a shortness of breath.

He smiled bitterly in his heart.

Perhaps, it would have been better to let Nan Zhou come this time?

——No, it wouldn’t work like that.

If Nan Zhou came instead, the challenges would’ve been different from his.

Jiang Fang thought that he probably figured out which part of the brain they were currently in.

——The Amygdala, the “fear center” of the brain.
