He stood there motionlessly for a while and looked at them, then he turned his attention towards the blue-colored dust that was drifting on the ground. He knew that this was once a living being but to his surprise, he did not feel anything. Not even a single hint of regret or remorse could be found in his eyes.
Though he had killed the black colored beast before, that was just an animal, not an intelligent being. Also, though they were elves, they still looked a lot like humans, so there should have been some reaction.
"Well, now it's confirmed. Something is really changing my mentality. I should not have been like this in the past after killing something, even killing an animal would have been hard for me. I need to make a log about the change in my personality in the future to see what changes compared to the past and how it is affecting me. It would be better to let Qing analyze it and make a report for me," Fu Yan thought, while looking at the blue-colored dust which was once a living being.
He then shifted his attention towards the armored men. When he looked at them, he could see vigilance in their stance, and the guns that were pointed at him were ready to fire at any moment.
Fu Yan sighed when he saw this.
"Well, the first impression is not good. I hope it won't make them hate me. HATE! Well, I am going to be hated for sure but that's for later. First, let's try to talk to them and make them understand the situation." Fu Yan thought and decided on his next course of action.
He tapped on the book that was embedded in his suit and the armor covering his body disappeared. Though the armor disappeared, the shields were still surrounding his body and could block any kind of attack if the situation arises.
"Hello!" He greeted them but this did not relax the mood. Fu Yan could not help but smile, embarrassed. He did not know what to say now because the other party was still pointing guns at him and he could see their tense expressions under their masks.
Finally, after a period of silence, one gunman lowered his gun a little after Fu Yan had taken down his armor and asked in a hard voice that sounded as if an old man in his 90s was speaking.
"Who are you and why have you come here?"
Fu Yan gave a heartwarming smile and replied with a calm and gentle voice as if he was speaking to a friend.
"I am the Librarian of the Galactic Library, and I am here to collect a book that was borrowed from us 100 years ago. Now that the time limit has expired and the book has not been returned, it falls on me to get the book back and collect the late fee."
When Fu Yan said this, he could see the shocked expressions of surprise on their faces that were hidden under the armor. The other four standing behind the one talking to Fu Yan, started to whisper to each other. They pointed at Fu Yan and talked in a low voice to each other.
The man who was talking to Fu Yan looked back and then raised his hand. All whispers immediately stopped, and then he turned to look at Fu Yan.
"I don't know what you mean by 'lending a book,' and who borrowed it from you? All I care about right now is that you killed two of my men, and if I don't get a satisfactory answer, I will make sure that you don't leave intact. So tell me. Who are you and why have you come here?"
Fu Yan's expressions changed when he heard this. He was trying to show goodwill and talked to them in a friendly manner because he accidentally killed their friends. He was not using his cold Librarian attitude with them, but a warm and welcoming tone, but it looks like it was not of much use.
Fu Yan's voice immediately turned cold and he gave a snort.
"It was your men who fired at me first so it was natural for me to fire back. I won't be giving any more explanation regarding this. Now I will say for the last time. I am here to collect back the book that was borrowed from us. If the book is not returned, then don't blame me if this planet of yours ceases to exist."
The atmosphere turned cold and the leading man trembled for some reason. He did not know why, but he felt that if he continued messing with this man, something bad would happen, and it would be something that he wouldn't be able to stop. So after thinking for a bit, he took a step back and asked in a neutral voice.
"Ok, I understand what you are trying to say." He thought that it was best to understand the whole situation first before acting.
"So who was the one that borrowed the book from you? Tell us, we will immediately bring the book back to you. Also, can you tell me what this book was about, so that it will help us find its whereabouts?"
Fu Yan smiled and replied with a cold voice while pointing towards their backs.
"That is what the book is about."
All of them looked back where Fu Yan was pointing but saw nothing other than the giant tree where they lived.
"What is it? There is nothing but the mother tree there. Please be serious. Tell us who borrowed the book and what it was about." The leading man said while trying to control his voice.
Fu Yan shook his head and said.
"That mother tree of yours is built from my book and the one who borrowed the book was a woman named "Nouvis Erfie." She borrowed the book from us a century ago and it's one month past the due date now, so I am here to collect the book back."
When Fu Yan said this he saw the confusion in the four men behind the leader and their loud whispers. From what he heard, they were confused about who this "Nouvis Erfie" was, why she borrowed the book, and why this man was claiming that their mother tree was built from the book.
Fu Yan was also confused because from what he knew, anyone who could borrow a book from the library would be a known figure on their planet. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to pay the fee for borrowing the book. After thinking for a while, he shifted his attention towards the leader and saw that he had been silent ever since he heard the borrower's name.
Fu Yan smiled when he saw this. He knew from this reaction that this man knew something about the borrower. Fu Yan did not urge him and just waited.
As for the leading man, when he heard the name "Nouvis Erfie", it did not ring any bell, but after a while, he suddenly thought of something and cold sweat started to drench his back. He silently took a peek and Fu Yan's face then towards his men. Then he closed his eyes and started to think.
He was not surprised that none of his men knew about "Nouvis Erfie" because only a selected few knew about it, and they all belonged to the royal family. He also had some connections with the royal family and had only heard about her accidentally.
His aunt had married into the royal family and when he was there to visit her, he heard the queen mentioning this name and the way she spoke it was full of respect as if she was talking about someone who was above her. He was confused at that time and started to wonder who this person was who could even make the queen call her with respect, but now he understood why it was.
He tried his best to control his emotions and then looked at Fu Yan with respect and some fear, because if what this man said was true, then he could not afford to offend him in any way.
After a while, he calmed down and said in a low and polite tone:
"Sir, please come with me. I will take you to the royal palace. I think you will be able to find the person you are looking for there."
Then he turned towards his men and said:
"All of you, go back to the barracks and none of you is allowed to say anything about this. If even a single word got out, then I will make sure it is counted as a capital offense and you will be beheaded. Now go."
After saying this, he turned to Fu Yan and led him towards the tree.
