"But... I fear. I have enemies, known and unknown. They will try to use you and your family to get to me. And let's say I can handle them, I want to ask, can you? Can your dad and your mum live in constant fear?
"For the past few years, ever since I started school here, multiple attempts on my life have been made. Many times I nearly died. Then I saw you nearly die. I saw Bellatrix hitting you with a curse and you fell from the broom. Injured, yet you got back up. Then you looked for me. You could have died that night.
"That was when I realised, I am not just a danger to myself, but also to those around me. I don't want to live with the burden of your deaths. Ragnar... he's a mad dog, he has fulfilled his wishes and does not care if he dies. That's why I keep him beside me, he can fight as well."
"Is that it? Because I am weak? I will train then, much more than before." Emma firmly said, hoping for these to be the words to convince him.
Magnus sighed and held his face, "Emma... you won't understand. You can't. Ragnar, me and Severus. We are broken people. Our only healing is to move towards our goals. I... can't commit to you, as I will end up hurting you by not being able to give you my time and attention.
"My shoulders are heavy already. My last names, Emrys and Pendragon... they mean a lot to me. There are 4 billion humans and 2 Billion magical beings who are intelligent. Millions of Centaurs, Werewolves, elves, Goblins and more dream of a day when they can be equal to humans, treated with respect and dignity. I don't want to fail them.
"I do like you, Emma, a lot actually, and I don't think I will ever find someone like you again. But, I don't want to half-ass it and ruin everything. Not unless I have taken of some of the responsibilities from my shoulders."
Emma sighed and looked at her feet, her eyes watering up. She nodded as she walked towards him and put one hand on his shoulder, "I can understand you. I've seen you for this long, I know how firm your resolve is. It was selfish of me to think I could have you. Forgive me... I ruined this amazing night of ours. I hope you won't move away from me now."
Her monotonous voice hurt Magnus, scared him too, "No... Emma. Never. You are and will forever be precious to me."
Emma smiled, but it was clear she was forcing it. She then started walking away back into the castle. Magnus watched her silently, words being pressed under his lips. He was already just an inch away from shouting that he wanted her.
But, Emma all of a sudden stopped, she stayed still for a few seconds, then turned halfway towards him and looked him in the eyes. Her eyes now had drops of tears falling, her lips shivered, she must want to scream at him, but could not... the fear of losing what little was left was too much.
In a shaking and broken voice, she spoke to him, "M-Magnus, why do you keep pushing people away from yourself? Don't you see? We care about you... we... love you. I-I love you... u-unconditionally."
Her face was agonising for Magnus. His mind and heart were in chaos. Merlin's soul piece in the locket around his neck talked to him in a one-sided manner, "Son, I have made plenty of blunders in my life. But... I was never lucky enough to have someone love me so much. Arthur does not count. So, take my advice. Fuck the world, you are not a slave to it, you don't owe them anything. You do what you do out of the goodness of the heart. If you let her go now, I can feel it, that same heart will become slightly dead."
Magnus's eyes shined again as if there was a renewed resolve. He smiled softly and let out a sigh. Inwardly, he was cursing himself, calling himself a bastard to even allow Emma to cry. However, his smile infuriated Emma.
But before she could have an outburst, Magnus spoke while taking steps towards her, "Emma, do you know, when you enter any kind of human undertaking in a relationship, it's an act of faith, that, you've given yourself up. Honestly, love is an act of surrender to another person, total abandonment, meaning, I give myself to you."
Emma snorted and angrily yelled, "Here you go with your lecture again."
Magnus, now at arm's length from her, suddenly grabbed her hand and pulled her close by her waist, "I think you didn't hear me right, Miss Emma Vanity. I... give... myself... to you."
She resisted a little, confused by his words, "Wha... Ummm!"
Before she could react, shocking her, Magnus pressed his lips on her's, softly, smoothly, like a spring breeze, he didn't let go after seconds passed, as she finally felt the warmth of his lips, his cordial breath brushing off her face, his unique and strong intoxicating scent taking over her mind.
She was startled, initially, and foolishly kept her eyes open, it was a first for both. But soon, she as well closed her eyes, reciprocating the same intense passion and welcomed him.
She held his face as she showed her wild side, now pushing his face back and forcing Magnus to allow her to explore his mouth.
He was amazed but welcomed this approach. He too held her closer, tighter, and felt her mature body on his own. She was not holding back at all, climbing him and strangling his waist with her legs, and soon, he found himself holding her in the air with his hands on her bottom, his body pressed against the balcony edge while she went wild with her wet, deep and long kisses.
It lasted for minutes, but for them, they still couldn't get enough of each other, and those minutes extended to many more. With nobody to disturb them, they shamelessly expressed their love for each other that had accumulated in months and years, like floodgates being opened, they let themselves go.

"AH!" However, he pulled his lips away and looked at her face with fear, "By the way, I must tell you something very important, Emma, just to be clear and give you another chance... you can still reject me if you want... I am impotent."
"WHAT?!" She exclaimed in confusion and jumped down, releasing her leg-grip from his body and standing straight.
