Chapter 25: London Chronicles (3)

As a sliver of sunlight slipped through the gap in the curtains, delicately illuminating the bedroom, Kate Beckinsale began to stir from her peaceful slumber. However, she didn't move immediately. Instead, she took two deep breaths, savoring the sensation of a restful slumber after long nights of bad sleep. She let out a contented sigh, she carefully sat up and cast a glance at the small figure sleeping beside her.

Angela's sleeping position was far from ideal. With flushed cheeks and tousled golden-brown hair gracing the pillow, Kate noticed a slight trace of drool at the corner of her mouth. Surprisingly, she clung to Kate's body with a tight grip, using both hands and feet as if she believed she was embracing a koala!

However, Kate just watched her quietly, occasionally caressing her hair affectionately. The memory of their first meeting was still vivid in her mind—the little girl who sneaked out of her house, sitting on a bench at the street corner with an injured leg, staring at every passerby with a fierce look. They rarely fought, but when they did, it was earth-shattering.

Take for instance, the time the little girl demanded she quit smoking. Yet, every argument only increased their bond and trust in each other. That was why Kate rarely saw her as a child. Yet, what frustrated Kate the most was that even though she was seven years older, she was always the one being taken care of.

Last night, they chatted until late into the night. The little one explained in great detail the reasons and consequences of visiting London, which surprised Kate. Listening to her vividly narrate those interesting stories, she forgot all her troubles. She thought she should pick herself up as well. But that darn little girl even inquired about Kate's love life. What on earth was going through her mind?

Just then, an unexpected tingling sensation permeated Kate's chest. Caught off guard, she nearly let out a moan. Clenching her teeth, she glanced downward. The little girl had reached beneath Kate's undershirt and was nibbling on her breast.

"Damn, Angela!" Kate found it simultaneously amusing and exasperating. "Is she still fixated on breastfeeding at the tender age of eleven?!"

She contemplated pushing her away, but she feared rousing her from sleep. Thus, she delicately tried to disentangle Angela's hand. However, the half-asleep girl murmured incoherently and continued her playful nibbling and licking, occasionally smacking her lips as if relishing a delightful treat.

Kate endured the urge to moan from the sudden pleasure, struggled to free her arms and legs, and then managed to move away from the little one's mouth. However, the bed they were on was just a single bed, not spacious at all. Inadvertently, Kate tumbled to the floor, while Angela, who wanted to continue, lunged at empty air, mumbled something unintelligible, and rolled over to resume her slumber.

Kate, now on the floor, peered at the damp spot of saliva on her chest, feeling a mix of frustration and irritation. She contemplated giving the mischievous brat a good smack on her backside, but after a moment's reflection, she couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, she scratched her head, made her way to the bathroom to freshen up and then headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

As a result of the "indecent" behavior displayed by the little girl, Kate abandoned any attempt to be quiet and began making a ruckus in the kitchen.

The noise stirred Angela from her slumber, causing her drowsy eyes to finally open. Sitting up in bed, she stretched her body to its full extent, letting out a deep yawn and vigorously shaking her head, resembling the iconic lion that appeared before MGM movies.

"Hi Kate, good morning," Angela greeted her cheerfully as she hopped out of bed and made her way towards the bathroom, slightly stumbling along the way.

Kate emitted a brief snort, not acknowledging Angela's greeting, and remained oblivious to the presence of the little girl. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and sleepily made her way to the kitchen door. With a hint of drowsiness in her voice, she offered, "Do you need any help?"

"Just wait at the table obediently, there's milk," Kate replied without looking at Angela.

The little girl nonchalantly shrugged, took a seat at the table, and opened a bottle of milk. Then, as if recalling something, she abruptly turned her gaze toward Kate and inquired, "Hey, Kate, is there a Chinese restaurant nearby?"

Kate glanced over her shoulder and replied with a hint of indifference, "I don't know, what's the matter?"

"I was wondering, if it's possible, could you help me buy some baozi?[Note: buns]" The little girl gazed at Kate's back, her eyes filled with hope.

"Baozi? What's that?" Kate inquired, still facing away.

"It's a type of food made with flour, round in shape, with a pointed top, and filled inside. It's really delicious," Angela explained, gesturing as she spoke. However, Kate showed no intention of turning around.

"Why would you suddenly want to eat... baozi?" Kate asked, her brow furrowing. The description of its round shape with a pointed top seemed to resemble something else.

At that moment, the little girl chuckled awkwardly and admitted, "I had a dream this morning about eating baozi. They were fluffy, white, and perfectly round, but the filling was a bit scarce. I took a few bites, hoping to find more filling, but it was missing."

Unaware of the frustration building on Kate's face, Angela continued to narrate her dream, lost in her own thoughts. "I thought if I kept eating, I would eventually find the filling. But then, in my dream, I lost my grip and the baozi slipped out of my hand. It was such a disappointment."

As Angela kept speaking, she suddenly heard a loud clatter. A porcelain plate was forcefully placed in front of her, and Kate glared at her with an expression of anger, gritting her teeth. "There's only fried eggs! No baozi!"

Unaware of what she had said to upset Kate, Angela was taken aback by the unhappy expression on her face. Feeling a tinge of intimidation, she quickly fell silent and shifted her focus to the fried eggs and sausages on her plate.

Once breakfast was over, in accordance with the agreement they had made with Mr. Sparrow the previous night, Kate accompanied Angela back to the Ibis Hotel.

"You can come up with me and take a look," the cautious voice of the little girl finally broke the silence as they stepped out of the car.

Witnessing Angela's pitiful appearance, any trace of anger within Kate dissipated instantly. Instead, a smile spread across her face as she shook her head. "No, I've already missed almost a month of classes. I don't want to risk failing high school."

"Come on, Kate," Angela shrugged, "As a young female writer who has won the W.H. Smith Writing Competition twice, the possibility of you failing is practically nonexistent. Besides, it's Sunday today, my dear."

Just then, a familiar and pleasantly surprised voice echoed from behind, "You're back, Angela?!"

"Hi, Jessica!" Angela turned around to greet her, but before she could react, Jessica rushed over and leaped into her arms, both feet leaving the ground. They embraced tightly, and if it weren't for Kate supporting the little girl, they might have tumbled to the ground like a pair of rolling gourds.

"Oh my, you nearly suffocated me," Angela exclaimed, recalling the incident from early yesterday morning. Strangely, she no longer felt discomfort instead, she found it rather pleasant.

"Who made you stay out all night? You left me alone in an empty room!" Jessica pulled a playful face, expressing her joy.

Following closely behind them from the hotel were Aunt Jennifer and Mr. Sparrow. Angela quickly greeted everyone. It seemed they still planned to continue their sightseeing in London today, and that meant Kate couldn't be left out. They wanted to ensure she relaxed and enjoyed herself.

"Kate, come along with us for a stroll. You know, even though I come back every year, I'm still not as familiar with this place as you are," the little girl urged, pulling Kate along to introduce her to everyone.

Angela wanted to introduce her to her Elder Sister, but Jessica mentioned that she chose to stay in the hotel after being recognized by fans yesterday. Though Angela didn't know the details, she understood that something had upset Julia, so she let it go.

Reluctantly, Kate became a tour guide after exchanging greetings with the group. Jessica had already visited famous landmarks like Westminster Palace and Big Ben the previous day, so they spent the day wandering through the streets and alleys of London. Throughout the tour, Kate grew more cheerful, a stark contrast from when Angela first met her, which put the little girl's mind at ease.

"Alright, Angela, I have to go now. Thank you," Kate said, gently kissing the little girl's forehead. After accompanying them back to the hotel, she had her own matters to attend to.

"Okay, take care on your way. If you have time, come visit me. I'll still be here for a few more days," Angela walked Kate out alone, hailed a taxi for her, and raised a finger in a serious manner. "No more drinking!"

"Alright, Angela, don't use that big sister tone with me. I'm older than you!" Kate scolded, giving her a stern look.

"Fine, fine. Goodbye." Angela hugged her happily, she watched as Kate got into the taxi, and waved goodbye as the car started moving. She then turned back towards the hotel.

At that moment, Nancy's voice suddenly echoed from a corner of the hotel. Unlike her usual gentle and elegant tone, Nancy sounded stern like never before. "Mark, that's not an excuse! I specifically instructed you to arrange the filming location in advance. And now, when it's time to shoot, you're telling me that the homeowner doesn't agree. What on earth is going on?! Do you have any idea how much money we'll lose if we delay the shoot for a day?!"
