Chapter 34: The Unexpected Envelope Dilemma

Dear Kate,

How have you been lately? I was delighted to receive your letter again, and I hope you're enjoying your time in Cambridge. I must apologize for not being able to offer any specific advice regarding stage plays. However, I can share that numerous renowned actors, including those in Hollywood, have gained valuable experience in theater. Many have even graced the stages of Broadway, as stage plays demand exceptional skill and do not allow for retakes. This aspect can prove advantageous if you aspire to excel as a film actor. As for how I guessed your thoughts, well, don't forget, I'm a genius!

Now, let me update you on my own recent experiences. Do you recall the little girl I mentioned during my visit to Niagara Falls in my previous letter? I must admit, I regret sharing my address with her. Ever since I replied to her last letter, I've been receiving weekly correspondence from her. While she always discusses music, and I don't necessarily have anything against her passion for it, she appears to be excessively fixated on the subject, which I find somewhat concerning. It's not something I particularly enjoy.

Oh, there's something else I need to share with you. Jessica and I have not spoken for a few days. The reason being... well, we kissed. Please, don't laugh; I understand that it's a normal occurrence, but ever since that unexpected kiss a few days ago, our communication has come to a halt. Every time she catches my gaze, she swiftly averts her eyes. I'm desperate to say something to her, but I'm at a loss for words. It's deeply troubling me. In the past, we had a minor disagreement upon my return from London, but we quickly resolved it. However, this time, I find myself uncertain about how to proceed. Would you be able to offer me any guidance or assistance?

Love,
Angela

...

"Alright, let's get going," Angela exclaimed, bouncing down the stairs with an air of excitement. She sported a black and white striped t-shirt and her hair was neatly tied up in a lively ponytail, adding a vibrant feeling to her appearance.

In the living room, Jack and Elena were engaged in a conversation. Spotting the little girl descending the stairs, Sparrow promptly rose to his feet and approached the door, opening it in anticipation.

"Make sure to return home early, my dear," her mother said, embracing Angela tightly and planting a tender kiss on her cheek.

"I understand, Mom, no need to worry. It's just a matter of recording three songs," Angela responded, feigning maturity and carefreeness as she made her way toward the door. However, she suddenly recalled something and called out to Jennifer, "Aunt Jennifer, could you please send the letters from the iron box on the left side of my desk? Thank you."

"Certainly, Angela," Jennifer acknowledged with a nod.

After bidding farewell to the two women, Angela hopped into the silver-gray Chevrolet MPV that her father had specifically purchased for her. Then, they slowly drove out of the driveway.

"Regarding the pricing for the two theme songs from "The Lion King" and the song "I'll be there for You," I've already negotiated with Disney. Would you like to take a look?" Sparrow, noticing that the little girl seemed a bit down since getting into the car, brought up the topic in an attempt to lift her spirits.

"Thank you, but I already know," Angela replied listlessly.

"Well, I have some invitations here. Would you like to consider them?" Sparrow asked once again.

"Invitations? What kind of invitations?" Angela inquired, not fully comprehending the situation.

Sparrow reached into his briefcase and pulled out a folder, swiftly flipping through its contents. "There are two movie productions that have extended invitations for you to join their cast, and there are also two advertisers interested in having you appear in their commercials."

"Movie productions? Commercials?" Angela exclaimed, taken aback. "Which movies? What commercials?"

"The movie titles are "Sam's New Mom" and "Mischievous Summer Camp," both are independent productions. As for the commercials, one is for children's cough syrup, and the other is for children's toothpaste," the agent replied, browsing through the documents as he provided the information.

She had never come across those titles before. The little girl nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders. Hollywood churns out countless movies each year, many of which are low-budget productions, particularly those from unfamiliar independent producers.

Even if these films are completed and well-executed, they often find themselves relegated to second or third-tier theaters, playing at inconvenient times.

Although she had gained some recognition from that perspective, she had no interest in participating. As for the commercials...

"What are your thoughts, Uncle Sparrow?" Angela inquired, seeking his opinion.

The former HR manager shrugged his shoulders. "Personally, I would advise declining the offers."

"I agree," the little girl nodded, her gaze fixed on the passing scenery outside the car window. Her mind was consumed by thoughts of how to salvage her "relationship" with Jessica.

As she had mentioned in her letter to Kate, ever since that day they shared a kiss, Jessica had been avoiding eye contact and refraining from initiating any conversations. Even when Angela attempted to engage her with a few questions, Jessica responded with only brief words.

Angela could sense that something was amiss, leaving her hesitant to address the issue directly. Although they still rode the school bus together and followed their usual routine of going to and from school, the atmosphere between them had grown increasingly strained.

Angela was both apprehensive and reluctant to confide in her mother, which led her to seek Kate's assistance through the letter. It was a desperate move that left her feeling frustrated and helpless. What should she do next?

...

"Fantastic! Outstanding! Absolutely mind-blowing, Miss Mason, that's it!" John Burns, the music director of the prominent《Hollywood Records》company, exclaimed with genuine enthusiasm.

He was utterly astonished by Angela's performance. Initially, he had been somewhat displeased, feeling that George, the representative from the film company, was intruding upon his record company's domain, which was irksome. What aggravated him, even more, was that the person George had recommended was just a young girl! It seemed inconceivable.

Had all the singing talents in America vanished into thin air? However, those two songs were undeniably impressive, but how could they have been composed by a young girl? If that were the case, all the songwriters in the pop music industry would need to consider changing their careers.

However, when he witnessed the little girl passionately playing and singing "Big Big World" all by herself, he couldn't resist the urge to embrace George and express his gratitude for discovering a true prodigy.

Her voice resonated like a heavenly sound, exhibiting a hint of rawness in certain technical aspects, yet her overall performance could only be described as flawless!

No matter what instruction Burns provided, she comprehended it instantly, effortlessly conveying her thoughts through a diverse array of instruments. She effortlessly maneuvered through each instrument, showcasing remarkable skill even with the harp, creating a breathtakingly beautiful melody.

"Miss Mason, you are an extraordinary genius unlike any I have ever encountered!" Burns exclaimed, his face flushed with awe and admiration.

"Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Burns. I am simply dedicated to working hard," Angela responded politely. Her statement held truth, as her musical talent in this life was influenced by her childhood obsession with learning.

She vividly recalled the time she had even invited representatives from the American Children's Association to her parent's home, fearing they were mistreating children. Such was her relentless determination.

"Well, let's proceed with the recording now, but are you truly not considering my suggestion?" Burns inquired once more.

"No, I believe it's fine the way it is," the little girl replied, shrugging her shoulders. Burns had suggested not rushing to release an EP but instead inviting renowned musicians to compose original songs specifically for the record. Of course, it would be even better if Angela could write her own songs.

However, Angela clearly wasn't fond of this proposal. The reason she had ultimately chosen to release an EP through Disney's record company and sell "I'll be there for You" to them was simply because she feared the original songwriter might release the same song in the future, leading to potential complications.

Though she had a deep love for music, she hadn't contemplated pursuing a singing career at that moment. The EP consisted of three songs: "Big Big World" and "Je m'appellee Hélène" from that memorable night, along with "Complicated" which she had sung during a trip. Since she had already performed all of them, she had decided to release them as a collection. As for Miss Lavigne, well, an apology would be in order.

Despite feeling a slight hesitance, Burns didn't entertain many alternative thoughts. After all, the contract had already been signed, prompting him to direct the staff to commence the recording process. The session progressed smoothly, and by 3 p.m., they had successfully recorded two songs.

The little girl was in exceptional form, completing each take within no more than three attempts. It was a pleasant surprise for both Burns and the staff, questioning whether it truly was her first time recording for an album.

Only the little girl herself understood that her seamless performance was a result of her intentional avoidance of thinking about her complicated situation with Jessica.

She desperately channeled her focus into something else, akin to how she initially pursued music and painting to evade confronting her identity issues.

Although everyone was eager to capitalize on the momentum and finish recording the last song, "Complicated," it was evident that time constraints would not allow it. Furthermore, Elena had instructed them to return early, thus necessitating a wait until the following day, Sunday, to complete the recording.

Upon arriving home, Angela's mother was engrossed in sketching a design on the balcony, while Jennifer tended to the garden, watering the flowers. Angela greeted them before retreating to her room. The moment she entered, she collapsed onto her bed, her face buried in the sheets.

"Jessica, what's going on between us?" the little girl mumbled, her words muffled by the fabric.

She turned over and thought for a moment, then got up and opened the drawer on the left side of the desk. The envelopes inside were gone. It was clear that Jennifer had already sent them out. Hopefully, Kate would receive them soon and reply to tell her what to do. Of course, it would be even better if she could come up with a solution before that.

However, a lingering unease persisted within Angela. She contemplated the matter once more, and suddenly, a realization struck her. Oh, yes, there was more than just the letters for the Canadian girl in the iron box.

The completed script for "Sleepless in Seattle" was also sealed in an envelope. The confusion intensified. Given that she was heading to record the EP today, she wondered if it was necessary to send it by mail or if she could have simply taken it with her.

Angela smiled, shrugged her shoulders, and shook her head. She was on the verge of closing the drawer when an inexplicable uneasiness washed over her. She paused, allowing her thoughts to wander until her eyes landed on the now-empty iron box.

In an instant, her expression changed, and she sprang to her feet, dashing down the stairs and towards the garden gate. Taking a deep breath to compose herself, she called out to Jennifer, who was outside with a tube of glue in her hand.

"Aunt Jennifer, did you send out all the letters for me?" Angela inquired, attempting to maintain a calm facade.

"Yes, I sent them all. What's the matter, little one?" Jennifer responded, a hint of recollection appearing on her face. She suddenly smiled and added, "Don't worry, sweetheart, I absolutely didn't read those two unsealed envelopes. I assure you, they were properly sealed before I sent them."

"Thank you," Angela managed to muster a forced smile before retreating to her room.

She ascended the stairs with a composed expression, closing the door with a click and securing the lock. As she slumped onto the floor, her back against the door, she stared vacantly at the ceiling and uttered, "This is a major problem."

Regrettably, those two envelopes held scripts that were akin to cherished novels. On occasion, she would indulge in the amusement of reading those half-story, half-script creations she had penned in the past.

They were stored in the iron box until she completed each reading session. However, she never anticipated Jennifer's sense of responsibility and that the envelopes containing the scripts bore their respective mailing addresses.

It was a colossal blunder!

One envelope safeguarded the script for "Hide and Seek," a thrilling and fantastic film from her previous life that starred Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning. It had been released in 2005.

If that wasn't unfortunate enough, the other envelope contained an even more significant script. The address inscribed on it was for Paris, and the intended recipient was none other than Jean Reno.

The script in question?

None other than "Leon: The Professional"!

[Note from the author: There are some issues with this chapter, mainly because I am not familiar with the process of recording albums. So I had to write it this way. CDs were already available before 1991, so let's consider it as an EP. If there are any major flaws, please let me know so that I can correct them.

Also, this story is undoubtedly a Yuri genre, so if you're not interested, you can leave now. Once again, I humbly request your support and votes~]
