Chapter 70: Birthday Party (2)

The Mason family's garden was bustling with excitement. Colorful balloons were hanging everywhere, creating a delightful contrast with the blooming flowers. Long tables were set up, and waiters in white uniforms were arranging cutlery to decorate the tables. Not far away, a chef wearing a tall hat was busy preparing for the upcoming lunch.

On the other side, a hired clown was performing various tricks making the girls watching burst into laughter. After Jessica had her turn to laugh, she looked around and then walked around the two kids to find Lindsay, who was enthusiastically watching the clown performance like the other children.

"Hey, Lindsay, where did Angela go?" Jessica patted Lindsay's shoulder and asked.

"It seems she went to greet someone who arrived late," Lindsay replied, turning around and thinking for a moment.

"Someone who arrived late?" Jessica looked around again. Most of Angela's classmates and friends, who usually attended her birthday parties were already there. So who else could be coming? If it was some adults, then Mr. Mason and the others would take care of them.

"Just now, a waiter came to her and said something and then she went to the entrance," Lindsay said nonchalantly.

"Maybe she wants to surprise us?" Jessica scratched her head.

"In a way, it could be considered a surprise," Angela's voice came from behind them. The two girls turned to look and the birthday girl was leading a boy, around 14 or 15 years old who was smiling brightly.

Jessica's eyebrows unconsciously furrowed, and she asked with confusion, "Angie, who is this?"

"Alright, let me introduce him." Angela let go of the boy's hand and pointed to Jessica, saying, "This is Jessica, one of my best friends."

"Hi, nice to meet you," Jessica greeted with a smile.

"Hello, Miss Jessica," the boy responded with a smile.

Then Angela pointed to Lindsay and said, "This is Lindsay, also my... friend, but she's a bit... too lively."

Though Angela's tone was hesitant, the boy still smiled and greeted, "Nice to meet you, Miss Lindsay."

But little Lindsay didn't answer. Instead, she pursed her lips and circled the boy, scrutinizing him as if he were some strange creature.

"Hey, Lindsay, don't be like that," Angela rolled her eyes and pulled her to stand beside Jessica. Then she pointed to the boy and said, "Okay, this is..."

"John Connor, I know," Lindsay cut in, crossing her arms seemingly unimpressed by the boy's presence.

"Haha, I thought I was the only one who liked《Terminator 2.》It's surprising to find out you've seen it too, Lindsay," Angela said with some surprise.

"No, I haven't seen it. But last year, when I was shooting a pizza ad on Gran Street, Mr. Connor happened to be shooting《Terminator 2》there. They took up the entire street for the shoot, and it took him 10 retakes to finish. So, unfortunately, I had to wait there until they were done to do my shoot. I didn't get home until the sun was almost setting in the sea," Lindsay said with no patience. Then she turned around and headed towards the group of girls, leaving Angela and the boy awkwardly standing in place.

"Oh, sorry, Edward. Lindsay always... says whatever she wants," Angela said with an embarrassed smile.

"No worries, she... is quite adorable," Edward said with a slightly bitter smile. He had a vivid memory of the scene Lindsay mentioned, as that shoot was a difficult one and he had almost been scolded to tears by Cameron. He even thought about giving up at that time, but he was glad he persevered. Becoming famous was one thing, but if he hadn't stuck it out he wouldn't be standing here today, would he?

Meanwhile, Angela tried to improve the atmosphere by bringing Jessica closer to them. "Jessica, this is Edward Furlong. You can call him Edward."

But Jessica didn't cooperate and asked in a silly manner, "Isn't he John Connor?"

A thick black line appeared on Angela's head, and Edward continued with a bitter smile.

"John Connor is a character from one of his movies. Do you understand? He played the boy in the science fiction movie《Terminator 2》"

"Oh, I get it now. So, Edward is also an actor?" Jessica blinked.

"Come on, Jessica," Angela couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Remember what I told you? The boy I met at the《The Parent Trap》party? That's Edward."

"Oh, I understand now. He's the one who writes you two letters every week and his grammar is really terrible, right?" Jessica suddenly realized.

Angela felt like facepalming, but she didn't do anything and just bit her lip, feeling helpless and embarrassed while glaring at Jessica.

At this moment, Edward lightly coughed, "Angela, there are only girls here, and I can't join in your conversation. I saw Mr. Cameron over there, I'm thinking of going to chat with him if that's okay."

Angela attempted to gesture and convey something, but Edward shook his head reassuringly, saying, "Don't worry, I just want to have a chat with him. It's no big deal. Besides, my grammar is really bad, isn't it?"

With one hand in his pocket, he smiled and waved, then turned gracefully and walked towards the adults. Angela sighed, watching his back, and then turned to Jessica, her expression full of annoyance, "Jessica, you did that on purpose, didn't you?"

"What?" Jessica blinked her eyes innocently, pretending to be clueless.

"You made me look so rude, Jessica," Angela said with some frustration.

"Is it because you're on a date?" Jessica tilted her head and asked.

"Cough! Cough! What... what do you mean?" Angela coughed a few times, glaring at Jessica.

"This is the first time in the past few years that I've seen a guy at your birthday party. Honestly, Angela if you're not on a date, then why did you invite him?" Jessica shrugged.

"Listen, Jessica, it's just that there have never been any boys at my birthday parties before, so I invited him. You know how the boys at school never pay attention to me. I thought maybe they wouldn't come anyway," Angela tried to explain but looked more like she was trying to cover something up.

"Probably because you never pay attention to them," Jessica thought to herself, then looked curiously at Angela's hand, "Angie, why do you keep rubbing your hands? Is there something dirty on them?"

"Oh, this... this... yes, I accidentally rubbed against the wall earlier, and they got a little dirty," Angela smiled awkwardly, her expression somewhat complicated. Though her hands separated as she spoke, she occasionally rubbed them together behind her back.

"By the way, have you seen my gift? I spent several days making it," Jessica changed the subject.

"Yes, I love the wind chimes! Thank you, Jessica!" Angela immediately gave Jessica a hug, smiling brightly, "I promise you'll love the gift I'll give you next month!"

"Alright, I'll be sure to say I don't like it then," Jessica said with a serious face.

"Is that so? Well, you can try, or maybe I can make you like it now," Angela narrowed her eyes mischievously, leaning closer and catching Jessica who was trying to escape. She playfully "bit" her on the cheek.

"Oh my, Angela, you're at it again!" Jessica chuckled and pushed Angela away, about to run back into the crowd. However, as she took a step, she collided with Lindsay coming from the opposite direction.

"Jessica, that hurt!" Lindsay complained while rubbing her head.

"Who told you to run around? Can't you be quiet for a moment?" Jessica retorted irritably.

"This is a party, why can't I run around?" Lindsay countered, dissatisfied.

"Alright, you two, no more arguing!" Angela quickly stopped their bickering.

"Angie, did that guy leave?" Lindsay asked at this moment.

"Lindsay, don't be impolite, you should call people by their names!"

"Alright, then, Angie, did that guy named Edward leave?" Lindsay raised her head, asking very seriously.

Angela could only roll her eyes at this and realized that Lindsay's first impression of Edward was really terrible. She didn't expect her to change, but still... She glanced at the group of adults over there and then said, "Okay, you stay here, I'm going over."

"Going over?" Lindsay didn't catch on.

"Yes, after all the adults are also guests," she paused and looked at Lindsay, "Lindsay, next time, instead of coming alone, come with your parents, okay?"

Lindsay bit her lip and after a moment, nodded, "I understand."

"Alright, I'm going then," Angela patted both of them and headed over.

Jessica wanted to say something but eventually didn't, sighing and looking at Lindsay beside her she asked, "You came over last night as well?"

"Yes, what's wrong?" Lindsay shrugged.

Jessica clenched her fists and suddenly asked, "How does it feel to sleep while hugging Angela?"

"It's warm and comfortable, makes me feel at ease. I like sleeping while hugging her, it's so much better than hugging a stuffed toy." Lindsay blurted out without hesitation, then looked at Jessica with surprise, "Why, do you...?"

"It's nothing, forget it," Jessica said and quickly walked away, leaving Lindsay somewhat puzzled, standing still.
