Chapter 79: Inner Musings

"God, even if we haven't seen each other for half a year, there's no need to be so enthusiastic," Kate said with a chuckle as she lay on the ground. She then patted Angela, who was pressing on her, and said, "I mean, do you plan to stay on top of me forever?"

Angela was a bit dizzy, and upon hearing this, she quickly propped herself up, but Kate's laughter and crying made her exclaim, "Angie, what are you doing!"

The girl finally came to her senses and realized that she was straddling Kate's belly, with her hands resting on her chest – a rather awkward position, at least for two girls.

"I'm sorry, I got too excited," Angela quickly got off her and helped Kate up. "You promised to come during the summer vacation, and I've been waiting for so long, so it's natural to be a little excited."

"Alright, that's quite a unique way of welcoming someone," Kate smoothed her hair, laughing. In the six months they hadn't seen each other, Kate's hair had grown to touch her shoulders, slightly wavy with large curls. Together with her long legs and 5 feet 7 inches in height, she looked very charming and quite different from her previous tomboyish appearance.

"Hey, what are you staring at?" Only when Kate waved her hand in front of her did Angela snap out of it, feeling a bit embarrassed as she rubbed her nose. She then introduced Jennifer to shift the topic, "Kate, this is Jennifer, our housekeeper. Jennifer, this is Kate, the one who found me that day."

Both ladies chuckled at Angela's serious tone and shook hands, exchanging greetings.

"Hello, Jennifer. Angela often mentions you to me."

"Likewise, Kate. Welcome to Los Angeles."

Then Jennifer clapped her hands, "Would you like something to drink?"

"Coffee, please. Thank you," Kate politely nodded.

As the female housekeeper headed to the kitchen, Angela pulled Kate to sit on the sofa, "I'm so glad you could come to see me, dear Kate! Well, it's a bit late now, so how about tomorrow I act as your guide and show you around Los Angeles? We can visit Chinatown, Disney Concert Hall, Kodak Theatre, Getty Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Boulevard, and more. There are plenty of places worth seeing and we can take our time exploring each one, and..."

"Wait a minute, dear," Kate quickly interrupted Angela, who was counting on her fingers, "I... I'm only staying in Los Angeles for two days."

"Two days? Why?" The girl immediately exclaimed, "You finally came to the United States, and now you tell me you're only staying for two days? That's so unfair!"

"No, no, no, let me explain, Angie," Kate hurriedly raised her hands, sensing that Angela was getting upset.

"Okay, okay, I got it. So, you're not here just for me, you're going to New York after this because you chose a subject related to early 17th-century British immigrants in America. I know, the East Coast is where they initially arrived."

"So, you're not here in the States just because of me?" Angela leaned back, crossed her arms, and pretended to look displeased.

"Angie!" Kate emphasized, showing signs of impatience.

"Alright, alright, I know. If it weren't for me, you would have gone directly to New York, and you picked that topic because you were coming to the U.S.," Angela laughed, her eyes sparkling. She then embraced Kate's neck, leaned in, and planted a kiss on her cheek.

"But can't you stay a few more days in Los Angeles? I've planned everything in advance, you know, the places we would go if you came," Angela said again.

And she was correct. Angela had begun devising this plan when Kate assured her of her visit during the summer break. However, this scheme was not solely focused on having fun, Angela yearned to keep Kate near within her line of sight, particularly after her awakening. This longing had grown even more intense. Angela couldn't help but wonder if it might be seen as a form of possessiveness.

Speaking of which, Angela had known Kate for at least 7 years. Although they hadn't met frequently during this time, the connection between Angela and Kate was not much different from the one she shared with Jessica. Thus, after her awakening Angela's desire for Kate was just as fervent, particularly since Kate was currently at the age of blossoming presenting an entirely different kind of allure to Angela.

Anyway, Kate also loved performing and was undoubtedly destined for Hollywood in the future. So why not bring her over now? As for Cambridge University, there would be a way to manage that, right? Of course, Angela didn't dare to make any advances until she had resolved her own physical issues.

"Angie, you know I have to take care of what I need to do first," Kate said as she lifted Angela and placed her comfortably in her lap, shrugging her shoulders.

Angela pouted but didn't insist further. After some thought, she said, "How about this? I'll also go to New York and join you! Besides, I have something to do there too."

"You're going too? Angie, this isn't like going to Edinburgh!" Kate was surprised. "Will Mr. Jared agree to it? And what do you have to do in New York?"

"It's okay, dear Kate," Angela waved her hand dismissively. "Didn't I tell you? My grandfather lives on Long Island, New York, and my godfather is there too. So, going to New York is no problem at all! As for what I have to do, I won't tell you."

Then, something seemed to occur to her, and she sat up excitedly, "Kate, let's go right now! We can take a flight and arrive by 8 or 9 in the evening at the latest."

"You must be kidding, Angie. In a way, this would be like running away from home and I don't want to be your accomplice!" Kate said with a wry smile, glancing around. She suddenly realized that Jared and Elena were nowhere to be seen.

"Don't bother looking, dear," Angela said triumphantly, "They're attending a party in Beverly Hills and won't be back until late."

Then she leaned in again, her hands clenched in front of her chest, and her eyes shining brightly. She looked like a little kitten in need of care and said in a somewhat melancholic tone, "Please, Kate, take me away from here!"

Kate didn't respond, she simply stared into Angela's eyes without uttering a word. Angela felt a bit strange, she had no idea how alluring her current appearance, inspired by cute characters from certain Japanese animations in her past life could be. If it were not Kate in front of her but any random creep, she might have already been pinned to the ground.

So, the saddest thing in this world is not mistakenly choosing the wrong gender when entering an irreversible role-playing game. It's when you recognize that you've chosen the wrong gender and yet continue to enjoy playing it! Poor otaku.

Just then, a voice interrupted, "Hey, little troublemaker, forget about your wild thoughts!"

"Oh, darn it, I forgot about Aunt Jennifer still being here," Angela said regretfully, jumping off Kate as the housekeeper came in holding a coffee pot. Once again, she pouted, "I should have dragged Kate and run away before!"

"Is that so? Do you really think you can escape?" Jennifer still wore a smile as she handed the freshly poured coffee to Kate.

"Thank you," Kate didn't say much. She listened to Angela and the housekeeper quarreling while absentmindedly sipping her coffee.

Just a moment ago, when Angela had made that melancholic expression, a strange and impulsive thought popped into Kate's head – she felt the urge to throw the little girl on the bed and do things, similar to what she had done with her female dormmates at Cambridge.

"Damn it, why would she have such thoughts!" Kate couldn't help but touch her forehead. In truth, these thoughts had faintly crossed her mind since the trip to Edinburgh. However, they had only resurfaced now and she couldn't figure out why.

She suddenly realized that she had started changing after meeting Angela. For instance, she gradually stopped hanging out with boys. By the time she reached high school, she had never been on a date with a guy. There were even rumors that she was frigid and lacked romantic interest, merely a bookworm who buried herself in books.

It was a sad time for her, but Angela, who visited her during the summer vacation in England, had consoled her, making her feel much better. It was also around that time that she started adopting her tomboyish image.

After that, she developed a stronger interest in girls. Hugging and kissing between girls made her feel incredibly comfortable. And when she got to Cambridge, she finally did something she had never imagined before with her two-year senior dormmates. Yet, she didn't find it strange at all, instead, she felt natural and delighted. The only problem was that she felt like something was missing.

And today, she suddenly realized what that missing piece was. Whenever she did those things, she would imagine what it would be like if it were Angela she was holding! This was deeply disturbing. Angela was just a... child. How could she have such thoughts about a child?!

"Kate! You're spacing out!" Angela's voice suddenly broke her reverie, startling her.

Feeling somewhat guilty, she glanced at Angela, then turned her head and took a big sip of coffee gathering her wits before playfully saying, "Yes, you seem to be having a delightful conversation. I don't want to interrupt."

"Well, I regret to inform you, dear Kate, that our plan to elope and fly far away together has completely fallen through," Angela shrugged, sitting back down on the sofa with a mournful tone.

Kate couldn't help but laugh, temporarily pushing those thoughts aside. "Alright, let's see what I brought for you."

"Really? What is it? It's not the usual stuff, right!"

"You'll like it. Look, here's a letter from Rowling... and her latest revised magical novel!"
