Chapter 91: Life as a Female Student

The car pulled up and Angela got out with her backpack. She looked at the school in front of her Rosewood Girls' Private High School and sighed with emotion.

It was really huge!

This school covered an area of 6 acres with 600 students and teachers. Founded in 1960, it was one of the most prestigious private girls' schools on the West Coast.

The well-ordered buildings, tree-lined paths, and groups of girls going in and out of the school made it lively and harmonious. Angela walked briskly toward her destination but soon found herself lost after turning around a few buildings.

"Why did they build the school like a labyrinth?" she complained. Though she wasn't directionally challenged, having only been to the school on the first day of the opening ceremony wasn't enough to memorize every path.

Looking around, she stopped a girl who looked about 13 or 14 years old and asked, "Hey, excuse me, do you know how to get to classroom 45 in Building B?"

The girl frowned, lifted her chin, and showed a proud expression. "Hey, little girl, this is not where you are supposed to be. I think you'd better understand the difference between middle school and elementary school."

'Little... little kid?' No one had called her that besides Aunt Jennifer. Angela raised an eyebrow to suppress her displeasure and calmly said, "I know I may look small, but I am actually a student of this school. If you can, please tell me how to get there."

The girl looked at her with interest, glanced around, and then revealed a mischievous look. "Fine, from here you go right to the end, then turn around the administration building about 100 meters, that's the sports hall. Then turn around again and go another 100 meters to Building B. Go inside and go up to the second floor. It's the third room on the left."

Angela looked in the direction she was pointing as she repeated the route in her mind. She had a feeling that something wasn't right, but before she could ask, the girl had already left.

So rude, Angela thought, but she still went the way she was told.

...

"Regarding the use of this grammar, you can find detailed explanations on page 32 of the textbook. You can browse through it first, and then..." During French class, Miss Martha was explaining the use of certain grammar to the girls in the room when the classroom door was pushed open and a little girl peeked in.

"Angela Mason?" Miss Martha put down her book and looked at the girl with a calm expression.

The girl was a little embarrassed and nodded, "Yes, ma'am, I got lost..."

"You've already wasted 10 minutes, Miss Mason. If you linger any longer, you'll waste even more time. If necessary, I can invite you to sit down. And please feel free to call me Martha or Miss Martha; please don't use 'ma'am,'" Miss Martha said calmly, eliciting laughter from the girls in the room.

"Yes, Miss Martha," Angela replied, still feeling a little awkward as she sat down at the end of the long table.

"Hey, Angela," a girl next to her greeted her in a low voice. She was a Latina, with beautiful auburn hair. Like most people of mixed race, her features were delicate.

Her name was Lily White, and she had become friends with Angela during the opening ceremony. Perhaps because she shared some similarities with Jessica, the two girls bonded easily and became friends.

"Hi Lily, I'm glad to be sitting next to you." Angela sighed softly.

"Don't be so upset. It's just being late, everyone can be late sometimes," Lily comforted her, showing her cute little tiger teeth.

"It's not that I'm upset about being late, Lily. I'm just mad that when I got here, I asked a girl for directions and she pointed me to the health office! It's so annoying. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been late!" Angela said angrily, then raised her head to see the third girl across the long table from her, smiling and occasionally glancing over at Angela, not caring at all when she caught Angela looking at her, showing a triumphant expression.

"This is Vicky Brandon. Do you know her?" Lily asked, following Angela's gaze.

"I don't know her, but she was the one giving me directions earlier!" Angela said slightly annoyed, biting her lip. Suddenly she thought of another question. "Lily, what is she doing here?"

"She's in the same grade as us," Lily didn't understand why she found that strange.

"But..." Angela opened her mouth and then closed it. The girl only looked like she was about 13 or 14, not really that old. Maybe she just matured early? Angela sighed in frustration, feeling conflicted about growing up. On the one hand, she wanted to grow up quickly to be able to do many things, but on the other hand, as a woman, growing up would bring more troubles and worries, which wasn't a good thing.

It was a dilemma.

"Miss Mason, do you have any questions about my lecture?" Miss Martha's voice sounded.

"Huh?" Angela was stunned for a moment, realizing that her sigh had been a bit loud.

"Of course not. I was just surprised..." Angela's mind raced, "I've studied some French before, but I don't quite understand certain limited words and the pronunciation of certain letters, like é and à, which always confuse me with English. I asked a few teachers, but they couldn't explain it clearly. It wasn't until I heard your explanation just now that I understood a lot, so I sighed.

This little flattery brought a smile to Miss Martha's face and she cleared her throat. "Thank you for your compliment, Miss Mason. If you have any questions next time, please raise your hand and ask."

"Okay, Miss Martha." Angela nodded, feeling relieved inside. At the same time, the girl named Vicky also cast provocative eyes at her, but Angela didn't have time to pay attention to her. She still hadn't dealt with the prank that made her late.

Compared to public schools, private school cafeterias were more elegant. Round wooden tables were arranged neatly, and the girls sat in groups of two or three, chatting about their favorite topics.

"Angela, your drawings are amazing! Have you been practicing since you were little?" Lily asked Angela, who was sitting by the window, fiddling with the vegetable salad on her plate. However, Angela seemed absent-minded, staring blankly ahead, and she had barely touched her food. After Lily asked again, she seemed to wake up, "What's up?"

"I really want to know if you often daydream while eating," Lily couldn't help but laugh.

"Of course not. I just..." Angela waved her hand. They were far apart in art class, so Lily only knew that the art teacher praised Angela's paintings and put them on display, but she didn't know what was happening around her.

"You know what? We have a very talented girl in our class who has been drawing since elementary school. Even Mr. Hugo praised her. I wonder if her French is as good as her drawing. If not, maybe she can ask Miss Martha for help. As long as she explains, she will understand," a voice came from the next table, deliberately loud, followed by laughter.

Angela knew who was speaking without looking, but she didn't bother to answer. Was it worth it? She wasn't a child anymore. Although she didn't want to speak, Lily couldn't help but mutter, "They're so boring. Aren't you going to refute them?"

"Don't worry, Lily. They are boring. Should we follow their boredom too?" Angela shrugged.

"But Vicky's family is very wealthy, and she dresses well. A lot of people want to be friends with her, and you might end up being passive," Lily said worriedly.

Angela looked at her and Lily was indeed worried about her. She was such a nice girl. So Angela smiled and said, "It's okay. Let her say what she wants. If I worry about everyone's opinion, I'll be exhausted."

Jokingly, Angela thought her high school life wouldn't include clichéd storylines like rich girls bullying ordinary girls. It's not Gossip Girl. Oh, speaking of which, she did come from a wealthy family.

So would it be a competition between two rich girls? That would be even more ridiculous, she couldn't be bothered.

Since Angela said that, Lily could only shrug her shoulders. However, the group of girls did not seem to want to stop there. Vicky's voice rang out again, "Hey, look, she's right there. I almost didn't notice. Hey, little one, how about giving us a French recitation?"

The way she addressed Angela made her frown. Finally, she turned her head to look, and there were several girls sitting at the round table, all of them elaborately dressed. Vicky was leaning back in her chair, supporting her slightly chubby face with one hand, and smiling at Angela. Angela shrugged again and turned her head away, not wanting to say anything to them.

"What's the matter? Is she shy?"

"I think it's more like she's scared."

"Yes, French is much stricter than English. It's easy to make mistakes, and there are so many people here. It's embarrassing to mess up."

The group of girls chattered away, and although Angela had decided not to contradict them, she couldn't help but think to herself: I can sing French songs perfectly, why should I be afraid to recite a passage?

Then she heard Vicky's voice again: "If it's too difficult, let's change it. Little one, how about singing a French song instead? How about Miss AM's《My Name is Helene》? We all love it." Her companions burst out laughing again.

Was she stupid? Angela couldn't help thinking. But it was really amusing. It seemed that the instrumental EP was really going to attain platinum. If they found out later that she was Miss AM, would their jaws drop to the floor?

Thinking about that, Angela couldn't help but laugh, but she didn't really laugh. She restrained Lily, who tried to argue on her behalf and left the cafeteria with her, completely ignoring Vicky and her group.

Sigh, is this going to be her life as a high school girl from now on?
