Chapter 9.2: "I give you the permission"

It was raining heavily that day

Even the umbrella was so useless that I was soaking wet on my way home to school, thus I took a shower as soon as I reached my apartment.

Afterwards, I ate dinner and relaxed a bit, as usual, listening to the sound of the rain.

As night came by, the thunder began to rumble loudly and the view of my city from my window was now dark and gloomy.

On a night like this, the only thing to do is buy a manga.

By the time I finished reading the first volume of the manga I had bought on my phone, I was completely hooked on it.

I’m going to buy a bunch of them tomorrow, on Saturday.

By the way, I’m an ebook type of person.

BOOM!

As I was pondering about this, the violent thunder boomed as the ground rumbled.

I was 100% sure that the lightning reached the ground.

It seemed to be considerably close.

Being able to stay at home in such a downpour makes me feel like I’m getting something out of it.

And so I thought to myself as I flipped the pages of the manga on my phone.

“…”

hmm…?

I feel like I’m forgetting something important.

No, it’s not really important, but kind of…

AH!

It’s Tachibana.

This lightning. Tachibana is surely shivering in her room.

Last time she came to ask for help herself, but this time there Is no sign of it.

Our relationship is much better than last time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she actually came.

…No, that makes it sound like I’m waiting for her to come.

No news is good news.

If she hasn’t come means she’s alright.

Tachibana is a very diligent person.

Perhaps she came over her fear of thunder after reflecting on it the last time.

ah, crap

I grabbed my umbrella and left the room in a hurry.

I think I better check it out.

The rain, driven by the strong wind, slammed down directly at me with a small angle.

My umbrella was heavy and I had completely given up on keeping myself dry even though I had just come out of the bath.

I aimed for building B where Tachibana’s room was located.

When I reached in front of her room, I couldn’t hear anything.

How could it be that there were no screams?

Normally, she wouldn’t be here.

But I had a bad feeling, that’s why…

Unfortunately, I didn’t have Tachibana’s number

If I knew this was going to happen, I’d have asked Tachibana for her number but I’m a beginner at making friends so there’s nothing I can do about it.

I have Susami’s contacts though, which I was somehow forced to give her.

I never thought it would come in handy.

The weather had shown a 90% chance for precipitation so it was unlikely that Tachibana would be alone.

Susami’s reply came quickly.

“No, what’s wrong?”

Is there any chance that she is with Hinata?

No, I don’t think so, Tachibana went straight home. And it doesn’t sound like Hinata is here.

It was too quiet.

There is thunder, but no screaming.

(TL-I’ve been suppressing but… wtf is this logic??, I just had to comment)

When I asked her about Hinata, the text was only read but no reply came.

Instead, my phone vibrated and showed “Incoming call”

“Hello…”

“Are you in front of her room”

“Ah, yes, I’m here on business.”

The first thing that came to my mind was an excuse.

But Susami didn’t respond to that.

“Where’s the key?”

“Eh?”

“Is it open?”

“No, wait, I didn’t check that.”

“Check”

“Ah…yes”

I did what I was told, I put my hand on the door handle.

It opened easily.

I wonder why the key was in the…

I couldn’t just open it without permission, so I decided to report to Susami first.

“It’s open”

“Come in, I give you the permission”

“Eh? You can’t do that?”

“Rika had been sick since morning, she might be…”

“Seriously…”

If I remember, when I saw her at school for a while, she looked a bit pale.

However, is it safe for me to go into her room without her permission?

If it’s just the case of forgetting to lock the door but being out…

“I’ll explain to her what happened and apologize with you later. So please, Kusuba-kun”

Susami was different today.

I couldn’t feel the usual composer in her voice.

“…I’m sure you’ll understand, so please…”

“Alright, got it”

Then, she hung up.

I put away my phone and opened the door.

I felt like a burglar but I can’t really say that.

“…?!”

When I opened the door, I saw Tachibana laying right in front of me.
