250 Accident

However, when he saw Zhao Wan lowering her head shyly, he felt bad for being so direct. He quickly changed the topic, picked up a large bag of snacks and stuffed it into the window. “I bought you some food. Tell me if you want to eat anything else. I’ll send it to you at night.”

“How much did you spend to buy so many things!” Zhao Wan looked at the big bag of snacks in shock. Her family was not rich. Even if her parents doted on her, they rarely bought her so many things at once.

Dong Chang beamed. He had accidentally rubbed some dust on his face while he was climbing over the wall. “As long as you like them, I’ll buy you as much as you want.”

“Where did you get so much money?” Zhao Wan knew that Dong Chang’s family situation was not much better than her own.

Moreover, Dong Chang’s father was known in the village for being a drunkard. Most of the money his family earned was spent on drink. Even Dong Chang’s clothes were washed until they were faded, but he could not have new ones. Others had two sets of school uniforms, but Dong Chang only had one.

Upon hearing her question, Dong Chang scratched his head in embarrassment and said, “I’ve been working at a relative’s restaurant these past few nights and earned some money.”

Seeing Zhao Wan’s shocked expression, Dong Chang waved his hand and said, “You don’t have to worry about me. Actually, I’m just helping out. As long as you enjoy eating them, I’m willing to do anything.”

“Thank you.” Zhao Wan lowered her eyes in embarrassment. She turned around and took out a plastic bag from behind the cabinet. She removed half of the snacks from the bag and gave them back to Dong Chang. Her smile was bright and cute. “This way, we can both have some!”

“I don’t want any.” Dong Chang hurriedly pushed the bag back.

As the two of them were arguing over the bag, Father Zhao, who was next door, suddenly woke up. When he heard the sounds coming from her room, he immediately felt that something was amiss. He hurriedly knocked on the door and asked, “Wan Wan, are you still awake? What are you doing?”

“I’m going to sleep soon. I’m packing up!” Zhao Wan hurriedly replied, her heart pounding in fear.

After Father Zhao’s doubts were dispelled, his footsteps gradually faded away and Zhao Wan heaved a sigh of relief. She looked at Dong Chang and smiled. “You had better go back first. Be careful on the way home. See you tomorrow.”

Dong Chang refused to accept the bag of snacks. He was already very satisfied to be able to talk to her for so long.

Dong Chang smiled and said goodbye to Zhao Wan. However, only he knew how reluctant he was to turn around and leave.

The days passed peacefully. From time to time, Dong Chang would sneak over the wall to see her and the two of them would enjoy some sweet, stolen time together.

Every day, Zhao Wan looked forward to growing up and so that she could make the decisions regarding her relationship. That way, she could be with Dong Chang openly and no one would stop them from dating.

On night, before Dong Chang left Zhao Wan’s window, he promised her that he would come again the next night to bring her sweet and soft braised meat that his aunt had bought for him.

Zhao Wan smiled and agreed. Her greed had been aroused by his vivid description.

However, she waited until late that night but Dong Chang did not come.

This was the first time Dong Chang had broken his promise to her. She trusted Dong Chang’s character. Her intuition told her that something must have prevented him from coming. However, she did not dare to climb over the wall and go out. She could only lie on the bed obediently and stare at the window, waiting for dawn.

She thought that she would be able to see Dong Chang in school, but when she saw that Dong Chang’s seat was still empty, Zhao Wan panicked.

Dong Chang was one of the best students in the class. He would never be late or leave early, and he always paid attention in class. Zhao Wan remembered that there was once when Dong Chang was sick and had a high fever of 38 degrees, but he still insisted on attending school.

She was in a panic. She waited until late at night. When her parents finally fell asleep, she jumped out of the window for the first time in her life and climbed over the back wall. She even accidentally scratched her palm, leaving a smear of blood.

She squatted on the high back wall. Zhao Wan suddenly felt afraid, but when she thought of Dong Chang, whom she had not seen for the entire day, she gritted her teeth and carefully climbed down.

After landing steadily, her pounding heart finally slowed.

She did not dare to waste any time. She pushed aside her fear of the deep silence and ran towards Dong Chang’s house.

Just as she was about to turn another corner and see the bright lights in Dong Chang’s room, a large hand suddenly covered her mouth from behind. The strong smell of alcohol instantly enveloped her.

She trembled with terror. She could hear the unfamiliar man’s heavy breathing.

Zhao Wan was terrified. She struggled with all her might, but she could not break free from the person behind her. When he dragged her into a field planted with crops, her stiff limbs finally regained some feeling. She crawled away on all fours, but the big hand in front of her mouth did not loosen its grip.

“Help!” Zhao Wan could only inwardly call for help. Her eyes were fixed in the direction of Dong Chang’s house. It was only when the cold wind blew against her legs that she realized that the person had taken off her pants during the struggle.
