She felt even more stifled and tried to bite his lips. However, Lian Jing did not give her the chance. He smiled and raised his head to stroke her head consolingly. “Alright, why are you letting your imagination run wild? Didn’t we agree on the Mid-Autumn Festival? Huh? You can’t wait anymore?”
“Who can’t wait!” Shen Yin glared at him and glanced at the dining room, afraid that someone would suddenly come out and see the two of them kissing in the living room.
Lian Jing grabbed her hand in amusement. He suddenly took something out of his pocket and put it on her slender finger.
Shen Yin was shocked when she felt something cold around her finger. She raised her right hand in disbelief and looked carefully. Only then did she realize that it was actually a heavy diamond ring!
“What… what does this mean?” Shen Yin’s mind suddenly went blank as she stared at the ring on her finger in a daze. It took her a long time to react, and her face instantly flushed red.
Lian Jing was amused by her reaction. When he saw her come back to her senses, he pulled her hand lovingly and walked towards the dining room. “Alright, you’ve already put on the ring. If you let your imagination run wild again, I’ll punish you.”
“How will you punish me?” Shen Yin’s brain had only just restarted and she asked this question without much though. She did not realize that she had fallen into the trap that he had specially dug for her.
The corners of Lian Jing’s lips curled up slightly, and a trace of desire flashed across his eyes. “Your punishment is to let me do whatever I want.”
Shen Yin glared at the back of his head and looked down at the ring on her finger. She actually felt incredulous that Lian Jing had proposed to her!
But shouldn’t he get down on one knee and wait for the woman to agree before putting the ring on her?
How could he be so domineering! He had suddenly slipped it onto her hand when she was unprepared!
Seeing that she was about to walk into the dining room, Shen Yin was forced to shut her mouth and temporarily swallow the questions at the tip of her tongue. She absent-mindedly finished her dinner and could not wait to pull Lian Jing’s hand and get back to her room.
Lian Jing let her hold his hand. When he saw her enter the room and lock the door, the smile in his eyes deepened. “Yin Yin, what does this mean?”
Shen Yin ignored his cloying way of addressing her and raised her hand to show him her ring. “Do you understand the signifincance of giving a woman a ring?”
Lian Jing nodded in confusion. “Of course I do. Do you think I’m a fool?”
Shen Yin sighed and lowered her eyes to hide her embarrassment. She continued to stammer, “Then, why did you give me this?”
Lian Jing’s voice was low. He undid his tie and threw it aside. “It means that you can only sleep with me in the future.”
Shen Yin instantly raised her head to look at him, her heart pounding. Although he had given her a clear answer, he had not yet given her the assurance she was seeking, so her imagination continued to run wild.
Did he mean that he wanted her to wear the ring and be his bedmate for the rest of her life? Did he want her to act as his wife until he found someone he really wanted to marry?
She knew that this was not the case, but she could not control her thoughts. She kept trying to misinterpret his meaning so that she could find evidence that he was not committed to this relationship.
At the end of the day, she was still too insecure. A failed marriage had made her lose her ability to love and trust men. She hated this fickle side of herself, but she just wanted a clear answer.
She wanted someone who would tell her clearly that he only wanted her and no one else.
Lian Jing frowned when he saw that she was in a daze and had fallen silent. He reached out and pinched her cheek. He felt much better when he saw her grimace in pain. “What are you letting your imagination run wild again? Have you forgotten what I said before dinner? Hmm?”
Shen Yin shook her head and was about to say something when her vision suddenly spun.
He had caught her off guard and thrown her onto the bed!
Lian Jing trapped her between his arms, confining her to that narrow space. Only then did he feel comfortable. “It seems that you really want me to punish you. Yin Yin, I, Lian Jing, have been chaste for more than 20 years. I only have improper thoughts about you. How dare you doubt me?”
Shen Yin looked up at him timidly and stared into his exceptionally serious eyes. Suddenly, she felt confident. Tilting her head, she mustered her courage and asked, “Then were you proposing to me just now?”
“No.” Lian Jing denied. Seeing that Shen Yin was about to lower her eyes again, he sighed helplessly and said, “I did plan to use this ring to propose to you. I kept it in my office drawer, but I kept wanting to take it out to look at it, so I simply put it into my pocket. I didn’t expect to give it to you in such a way today, but I thought this would give you more assurance than words.”
“You’re saying that you originally planned to… propose to me?” Shen Yin suddenly widened her eyes and stared at him in disbelief.
Lian Jing could not help but laugh and shake his head. “What else do you think I planning to do during the Mid-Autumn Festival? Just flap my mouth and tell everyone that you gave birth to my only son? Shen Yin, do you think I’m heartless enough to treat you so badly?”
