“Explanation to the Margrave”

As I advanced westward into the Malbert Territory, the Byreus Territory, which stood on the border with the Seconds Kingdom, came into view. Byreus was normally about a three-day carriage ride away, but with the marching speed of an army, it would take less than two days. Moreover, with my ability to use flight magic, I could reach there in about an hour.

Arriving at the Byreus Margrave, which was facing the Seconds Kingdom army, at an astonishing speed, I made my way toward there.

The total number of troops that invaded in this war was 30,000. In contrast, the total number of Byreus soldiers defending against them was a little over 7,000, which was a bit concerning.

However, the soldiers of the Schells Kingdom, who had repeatedly repelled invasions from the Seconds Kingdom in numerous wars, were highly trained. They were strong enough to not be defeated even with such a difference in military strength.

Nevertheless, it was a fact that there was a threefold difference in military strength, and that was why my father, Baron Malbert, personally took command and sent reinforcements of about a thousand soldiers to the Byreus Territory.

While flying with magic, I passed over Malbert’s reinforcements heading towards the Byreus Territory, so there was no doubt about it. I thought about giving a word to my father, Baron Malbert, as I passed, but since I would meet face to face in the Byreus Territory anyway, I decided it would be redundant and ignored it.

And then, about an hour after taking flight from Malbert’s residence, I arrived in the Byreus Territory earlier than the army that had set out before me.

“Well, I should at least say a word to the Margrave.”

While I could charge alone into the Seconds Kingdom’s army without any problems, I should inform the Byreus Margrave, who was presumably responsible for defending the borders of the Schells Kingdom, just as a courtesy.

Feeling annoyed by the troublesome adult affairs, I headed towards the Byreus Margrave, who was presumably facing the Seconds Kingdom’s army.

“I, I have something to report!”

In the midst of facing the army sent by the Seconds Kingdom, a soldier rushed over to the Byreus Margrave. The words spoken by the slightly puzzled soldier surprise the Margrave, who opens his eyes wide, showing a look of astonishment.

“A boy named Rolando wishes to have an audience with you, Margrave-sama. What will you do?”

“What? Rolando!? … Let him through, bring him here.”

“Yes, sir.”

In response to Margrave’s words, the soldier immediately started moving and returned with a boy. Needless to say, that boy was me.

As always, the Byreus Margrave, with his muscular physique and slightly stern and handsome face, exuded the presence of a true warrior.

“It’s been a while, or so I’d say. Since the capital, to be exact. Margrave.”

“Heh, it hasn’t been that long since we last saw each other, but it feels like an eternity has passed. So, what brings you here?”

“You should be able to guess why I’m here, right?”

“You can’t possibly be joking about a kid like you joining this war, can you?”

“You know very well.”

As expected, Margrave seemed to have understood my purpose for coming here. His face twisted in surprise as if he had anticipated it.

“Go back. We’re more than enough on our own here.”

“Just seven thousand soldiers against an army of thirty thousand?”

“…… “

When I pointed out the difference in our forces, Margrave hesitated for a moment but quickly retorted, unwilling to equate the feeble soldiers of the Seconds Kingdom with our troops.

“I won’t allow our soldiers to be compared to the weak soldiers of the Seconds Kingdom. The difference in forces won’t mean anything!”

“Admittedly, there is a significant gap in the quality of soldiers. However, can we resolve this situation without any casualties?”

“That’s… “

“I can do it. After all, I didn’t receive the Mithril First Class Medal for nothing.”

My words caused a stir among the surrounding soldiers. It seemed they had realized that I was the adventurer who had been awarded the prestigious Mithril First Class Medal for the previous incident with the demons.

Even though Margrave excelled in valor, it would be difficult for him alone to end the war without any casualties, including among his subordinates. That was why I had received the honorable title of the Mithril First Class Medal. Also, there was nothing wrong with building goodwill with the kingdom. They could repay me several times over later.

“Furthermore, I already have permission from the king to participate in this war. It’s a decision that you have no right to object to. If you have any complaints, take it up with the king.”

“Sigh…”

When it was mentioned that I had the approval of the kingdom’s top authority, Margrave couldn’t come up with any further objections. That was how heavy the king’s words were.

While it wasn’t necessary for me to have Margrave’s permission, I wanted him to know the outcome of the war that occurred in the territory he governed. I wanted him to understand that it was out of my kindness.

“For now, I’ve informed you that I will end this war. But I’ll let you choose how we should conclude this as a favor.”

“What do you mean by ‘choose’?”

“It means exactly what I said. I told you that we can end this war without any casualties. And it doesn’t only apply to our side.”

“You’re saying you can ensure that even the enemy soldiers won’t be casualties?”

AD

“That’s right. I can do that. On the other hand, I can wipe them all out if I want to. So, what will you do?”

As I posed the question, Margrave fell silent immediately. He was probably contemplating how to shape the outcome of this war. However, now that I had taken action, I had no intention of letting the Seconds Kingdom have its way. Naturally, the punishment, including what had happened so far, was my decision.

“Well, once this war is over, I plan to impose a punishment that will prevent the Seconds Kingdom from provoking us for a while. What do you intend to do?”

“What do you plan to do?”

“That’s something you can look forward to.”

As I grinned, Margrave’s face twisted in discomfort. I don’t know what he imagined, but I have no intention of doing anything severe. It would be more of a minor nuisance.

“Uh, um…”

Just as I was thinking about such things, someone interjected in our conversation.
