Lady Beatrice
“Thank you so much for your help.”

The one who bowed to me with a dignified voice was Lady Beatrice, Lord Gwenael’s wife.

When I woke up this morning, I was summoned to a room by Lord Gwenael, where him and his wife were waiting for me. After a brief introduction, the lady thanked me.

“Please raise your head.”

She slowly raised her head and stared at me.

“I was acting out of self-interest, there’s no need for you to thank me.”
“That’s not true at all. We were saved thanks to you, Young Lady Elle.”

When she said that, I had no words to reply with.
Lady Beatrice smiled gently and grasped my hands from across the small desk.

“Thank you so much.”
“You, you are welcome…”

When I received her thank you in a muffled voice, Lady Beatrice narrowed her eyes in happiness.
As soon as she released my hands, the person who summoned me, Lord Gwenael, spoke to me.

“The village girls who were kidnapped by Baptiste will be sent home today.”
“Is that so?”
“Everyone’s hearts seem to be deeply hurt. I won’t be able to apologize no matter how much I try.”

Lord Gwenael’s expression was very gloomy as he tightly clasped his hands on his lap.
Lady Beatrice, who was sitting next to him, had the same expression on her face.

“I don’t think anyone will blame you two. You are both victims.”
“That might be so. However, I can’t help but think that we should have been more firm with him.”
“Lord Gwenael…”
“I’m sorry to trouble you with my words like this. Pardon me.”
“It’s nothing…”

Regretting what you have done is something that happens at least once in your life.
So I can understand his regret.

“Oh, that’s right. The inn has been arranged!”

Lord Gwenael deliberately changed the conversation.
The smile that was forced on his face must have been a sign of concern. I couldn’t let his concern go to waste, so I smiled too and thanked him.

“Well, I better get going then.”
“You are leaving already?”

Lady Beatrice spoke up as I stood up.

“Yes. I’d like to take a look around the village.”

Many of the stores had been closed due to Baptiste’s unreasonable levy, but there were still some that remained.
I want to take a look around.
Lady Beatrice looked disappointed, but she didn’t force me to stay.

I thanked them for letting me stay the night, and then left the residence of Viscount Dahl.
