Chapter 012: Little Sage

Kailar heard long ago of Merlin being a servant of King Uther. It’s no wonder she was indifferent when he offered her a position to serve under his father’s dukedom. But however, he hadn’t believed Merlin was who she said she was.

Historically, the impression Kailar had of Merlin was that of an aged old man with a white beard and a cane in hand as he guided and mentored King Arthur but perhaps Kailar was wrong and history botched the truth.

Kailar grabbed a pair of fruit and slowly nibbled on it. He looked at King Uther and the people standing near him.

“Today, I am here to share this cup with you.” King Uther raised a glass of red wine as he held a little girl in his left hand.

“Yes, Your Highness.” The lords and dukes grew excited and cried out loud. Their face flushed a rosy red. It seemed they hadn’t expressed enough of their feelings towards their king.

Kailar looked at the shameful crowd and King Uther. He found it not his cup of tea and so he bit on the pair of fruit till he was almost full. He wanted to get out. The crowd was suffocating.

At the corner of his eyes, he saw a blonde little girl awkwardly standing and quickly ran away. The old man, King Uther hadn’t bothered with her. His attention was dead set on the crowd.

The hairs on Kailar’s head stood up. It told him that there’s quite a lot of internal trouble with the royal family. It’d be troublesome to mix and mingle with them.

It’s just that… sometimes you can’t escape what fate had planned for you.

“Oh, my little apprentice, where are you going?” An alluring womanly voice echoed.

Kailar’s body stiffened and his face grew dark. This voice. He knew this voice. This voice belonged to that annoying woman. But nevertheless, he continued moving forwards.

“Little apprentice, where are you going?” Merlin walked up to him while holding a glass of red wine.

Kailar sighed aggrievedly before turning around and smiled innocently as he bowed. “Seven years have passed since our last meeting, Master Merlin.”

“Hahaha, though I haven’t seen you for seven years you’re still quite the horrible child.” Merlin rarely used such words. Having known and experiencing Kailar’s personality first hand, Merlin found the term “horrible” fitting. If others knew of what went through this kid ’s mind, no doubt it’d frighten many people.

“Whatever do you mean? I am but a harmless ten-year-old.” Kailar smiled innocently as if he’d done nothing wrong.

“Haha…” Merlin’s forehead twitched while smiling awkwardly. This child… she could really do nothing about him. After he learned the magic of healing, it seemed like he pushed her away.

“What if I were to say that Princess Morgan will be your wife?” Merlin snarled.

“I completely refuse.”Kailar shook his head and smiled. He knew this Princess Morgan was an extremely vicious and vile character. In the Arthurian legend, she was not the child of King Uther. Rather, she was the daughter of Igraine. Before King Uther married Igraine, she bore children with Gorlois.

Though Morgan wasn’t of King Uther’s blood, he chose to keep her around out of respect for his wife, Igraine. But if ever King Uther were to find Morgan’s scheming and plot in the near future, she’d surely face death. If he were to marry Morgan, his family would rise to a new status but it’d also meant a ticking time bomb. King Uther, King Arthur… the royal family would grow suspicious of his family and Morgan.

And Morgan had always played around with Gawain, using him for her evil deeds. This sort of woman, she’s the sort of personification of a bad woman. But Kailar doesn’t really mind. He’ll shape her up if ever she’d attempt to do cunning schemes behind his back but he has plans for his parents. He can’t marry a woman who’ll bring about the death of his parents.

“Your Highness! Your Highness!” Merlin suddenly yelled which immediately attracted the attention of all the Lord’s and Dukes.

Kailar shook his head bitterly. This woman… it was best not to involve himself with her. She’s got a short temper and it looks like she doesn’t concern herself with the affairs of the world. He sighed solemnly. This Merlin… history’s a bunch of lies.

“Oh, dear Sage, what’s the matter?” King Uther was very kind to Merlin and respected her so. He walked towards Merlin with the little Morgan.

“Your Highness, what do you think of the cleverest child in Camelot?”

“I would like to see what the smartest child is capable of according to you.” King Uther smiled and joked when saw a little boy smiling comfortably. Based on the boy’s temperament, it’s easy to see that the boy was remarkably extraordinary. This interested King Uther and he wished to know what this little boy was capable of. “Oh, that’s right, Merlin. Isn’t he the cleverest child in the kingdom of Camelot and the son of Andrea Ettorek?” Kailar did not react when the mentioned the name of his father.

Three to four seconds later, Kailar bent his body while smiling. “Yes, Your Highness. If you’re talking about the heir of Andrea Ettorek who elevated the status of Red Leaf and expanded it from afar, then it’s me.”

The crowd gasped. Suddenly, noises echoed throughout the crowd like a storm. There were murmurs everywhere. They weren’t a fool. In the past two years, they watched firsthand of Red Leaf rising exponentially. They hadn’t expected the monster behind this was only eight years old. Is Andrea Ettorek running the dukedom or is he a running dog for his son? To think this little child made Red Leaf what it is now.

Such gap… envy filled the core of their hearts and their eyes suddenly turned red. Moreover, the difference in their age… how audacious!

Merlin was surprised. She hadn’t expected the crowd would react in such matter. Thereafter, her face hardened and she steeled herself with determination. She’ll show this boy’s true colors.

“Your Highness, don’t you want to use his talent for use?” Merlin threw an excited gaze towards King Uther.

King Uther’s eyes widened astonishingly. What was wrong with Merlin today? Why’s she so abnormally weird than normal…?

After a moment of thought, Kailar smiled softly. “Merlin is indeed a wise sage. Why don’t you let me be her disciple?”
