[Trouble in the Dungeon]

“Huh? Did the ground tremble just now?”

It seemed Madeline also noticed it, but by then it was already too late.

All of a sudden, there was a thunderous sound.

Then, the ground shook even more intensely.

“Wha–”

We tried to run away, but it was futile.

The reason being, the ground beneath us suddenly crumbled, and we fell headlong into the resulting giant hole.

Madeline, Annette, and I fell through the seemingly endless hole.

We’re definitely dead the moment we crash to the ground—such a fear gripped us.

“Kh?!”

I had to do something.

With that in mind, I poured my mana into the Holy Sword.

I was going to cast gravity magic.

It was difficult magic, and I had no idea how long I could control it with my Holy Sword… but there was no other option. Rather than falling to death, I’d rather bet even on the smallest possibility to survive. I couldn’t afford to make Tayte sad.

“Haaa!”

I successfully activated the gravity magic.

Thanks to it, our falling speed became much slower, and we descended slowly.

Normally, you could use it to float up, but since I had only just learned it, it wasn’t possible for me. I’d definitely ask Miss Teixeira to help me master it once we got out.

“T-this is…”

“That’s Barrett for you! Always reliable in times of emergency, a true hero!”

“Come on, you’re making a mountain out of a molehill.”

Annette seemed perplexed seeing the magic activated by the Holy Sword for the first time, but on the other hand, Madeline expressed her gratitude, having seen my magic many times during the academy festival.

Still…

“It’s pretty deep…”

Thanks to gravity magic, I didn’t have to worry about plummeting to my death anymore, allowing me to calmly assess my surroundings.

“It was an incredibly large hole, but did you have no knowledge about it?”

“Y-yes, I never knew there was a hole like this in this dungeon.”

Given that the academy used this dungeon as a training facility, there should be thorough safety measures in place. After all, just like Astor Academy, not only commoners but also nobles attended this Randolph Academy.

But despite that, this hole somehow escaped their notice.

All three of us might have died if I hadn’t been able to use gravity magic. In the worst-case scenario, it could have escalated into an international dispute involving the Bramshal Kingdom and the Salencia Kingdom.

“I’m truly sorry about this…”

“I-it’s not your fault, President Annette.”

“She’s right. –Oh, I can see the bottom now.”

We could wait for rescue once we got down.

With such intense quakes and deafening noise… those guys outside must be panicking by now, but sooner or later they’d realize we were gone and start looking for us. Using detection magic, they would swiftly pinpoint our location.

“There’s no way we can climb up, so let’s just wait here.”

“Second that.”

“A-are both of you used to this kind of situation?”

“Well, we’ve been through a lot.”

Madeline spoke proudly, but… I personally didn’t see it as something worth of boasting.

Anyway, let’s conduct a brief investigation into the source of the quakes.
