[Underground Library]

“The underground library…?”

As I muttered in puzzlement, unable to understand everyone’s reactions…

“What, you don’t it?” Jarvis looked at me with astonishment, as if it were common knowledge for anyone attending Astor Academy.

However, there was no mention of it in the original Barrett’s memory. Despite my year-long stay at this academy, I had never heard of any underground library either.

“Well, Barrett wouldn’t have been interested in such a story.” Kleine sighed, but then proceeded to explain about the underground library. I guessed even though she had been traumatized by the original Barrett, she was kind at her core.

“It’s just a rumor. We have many renowned magic researchers like Miss Teixeira at our academy, remember? People say there’s an underground room on campus where many magic books they use for research are sealed.”

“Is that so…”

It didn’t sound too unlikely.

It didn’t sound too far-fetched. I had heard that some magic books were so dangerous that merely opening a page could be life-threatening. Others could drive people insane just by reading them. Deciphering magic books containing unique curses or magical traps required a certain level of expertise, much like Miss Teixeira possessed.

“…Okay, I understand what’s the deal with this underground library now. But why did Madeline go there?”

That was the fundamental question.

Why would Madeline go into the underground library? How did she even manage to find it? Or rather, did she really find the real underground library?

In any case, there were too many unknowns at this point.

“…I guess there’s no other way.”

I slowly rose from my seat, and so did the others, seemingly grasping my intentions.

“Dorothy.”

“Y-yes!”

“Can you lead the way? — To the place where Madeline disappeared.”

Led by Dorothy, the student council members, went to the place where Madeline had disappeared.

Should I say, it was only natural?

“The library, huh?”

The four-story library stood right beside the main school building.

Students were still inside, engrossed in their studies, and from the outside, nothing appeared out of the ordinary. It was becoming increasingly difficult to believe that Madeline had disappeared here.

“So where did Madeline disappear?”

“O-on the first floor, in the section with books about water magic…”

“Okay.”

I made the decision to split the members into two groups.

The first group included Tayte, Andrei, Jarvis, and myself. Our task was to search the library. I instructed the second group—Raul, Eureka, and Kleine—to explore the campus surroundings, just in case it was a misunderstanding on Dorothy’s part, and Madeline had gone somewhere else.

“Alright, I’m counting on you,” I said to Raul, whom I had chosen as the leader of the second group.

“Yes!”

With that, Raul, Eureka, and Kleine set out to search around the campus.

Now then, where were you, Madeline?
