Someone’s killing us, the soldier said. Someone out there is hunting us down. Some of our buddies not back after going after the bastard. I thought the place was secured.

“Does anyone copy us, over!?” one of his comrades said.

Everything was going fine minutes ago! There was suddenly gunfire, an explosion and the two guys near the broadcasting area shouting. He and his comrades tried to see what was happening when they heard another shot. The first shot broke the head of their friend, and carved the calf of their comrade.

Their comrade shouted, but they knew that there was a sniper trying to take them out. They waited for a second, and even tried to get someone to send some of their contacted magi, but that magi didn’t appear. There were more shots coming that they had to lie down on the ground to avoid their heads bursting.

Each shot took lives. And the men that were able to climb up were targeted by well-aimed shots! He didn’t know what was happening but they had assumed that there was a team of snipers killing them!

“Sir, what should we do?” The soldier asked. Their leader, Elric, who had been leading their operation glanced at his men.

“We’ll call a helicopter to distract him, try to make him think that we’ll extract the hostages, some of the Udo’s guys are going to get up, and try a suppressive fire, but that would be impossible seeing how this team is shooting us down with extreme accuracy.”

Colonel Elric looked down. “We all know that some forces are going to be coming for us, but it was too quiet. There’s a high chance that they sent my magiborne brethren to fight us. It’s only good that I’ll fight my indoctrinated brethren.”

Colonel moved away after saying that. He made his way out of the building and hurried to the next building while the helicopter was making an appearance.

As expected, the helicopter had been shot down, and some parts of the helicopter broke one side of the building. They tried to get some cover for the Colonel, and suppress the snipers, but they saw it.

How their War God, the undefeatable Colonel in their eyes, was easily defeated by this six-foot-four monster that wasn’t even equipped with a powered exoskeleton. How their hearts trembled seeing that monster cut him by limb. The Colonel who would even swipe away shells and defend himself from tanks was easily done in.

Dread crept in their hearts. And any thoughts of rescuing their Colonel were dispelled by the two cruel shots that were directed to the Colonel's head. Some of the soldiers spotted a flying object and suspected that it was the vessel that transported the sniper. They had long confirmed that it was only one sniper doing them in.

They would call it out as absurd, but seeing how powerless the Colonel was against this thing. They knew that they were facing someone who was lethal. Their knees were buckling, and fear was freezing them into inaction.

“Men,” Lieutenant said. He was the second-in-command after the Colonel, “from the looks of how he was going, then he’d be coming after them hostages. Colonel, he led the way as always, and he’s dead...not even in glory...so you think we’re going to let this fucker go?”

“No Sir!” the soldier felt his blood boil.

“Good, we got that traitor Thomas in the head already. Nine’s team confirmed it, but that doesn’t matter right now. I want that magiborne dead, and if he’s coming here then we’ll turn this place into his fucking death trap. Do you understand?”

“Yes Sir!”

“Good, you!” the Lieutenant pointed at the soldier. “You manned the security cameras and kept us warned where he’s going. Expect him to come in sooner or later! Rest of you with me! We’ll keep the bastard stationed and deal. Traps are going to be useless and we don’t have time! You, keep the powers shut down! We’ll take the bastard here and now!”

“Roger!”

“Good. Move out, lads.”

The team started to take position in one of the antechambers alongside the shaking hostages. The soldier manned the security footage while his buddy kept his eyes on the door, rifle ready to shred anyone trying to get in.

“All units, prepare in the antechamber, we’ll overwhelm this fucker.”

On the security footage he saw that the entrance of the rooftop breached. “Enemy just entered the rooftop entrance. He's armed with an assault rifle and some sort of combat suit, Lt!”

The headgear of their enemy was wearing welding-like glasses that covered his eyes and a ballistic face mask that resembled that of a skull missing the jaw. “Lt, he’s heading, and is equipped with manpack, probably in-contact with someone--”

The man in the video footage spotted the camera and shot it. “Shit, Lieutenant, he shot the rooftop entrance’s CCTV!”

He switched to another camera, and was unsure how the man was blurring. The soldier trembled at how when the man entered the shadow, it felt like the camera could barely perceive him, leaving only a blur before he shot down the CCTV’s that he spotted.

“He’s a Ghost,” the soldier muttered as how fluid and precise the enemy’s movement was.

The soldiers waiting in cover were waiting to ambush the man. The soldier radioed them how many meters the enemy was and prepared them. Before they could engage the enemy, they were shot down right in the torso, and were down for the count. He had a fast draw, and his reaction time was absurd.

He took the LMG that the one of the soldiers carried, and reloaded it. He then let his own assault rifle hang after changing the magazine. The bulk he was carrying didn’t slow him, and he didn’t spray and pray as others would.

Though some of his fellow brothers were able to take the first shot. They were shot down twice, and killed in action before they could ever react. The soldier continued to relay what was happening to the Lieutenant. “Squad 7 is down, Lt, over.”

“I see. Keep us posted when he gets near the antechamber.”

The soldier looked at the three still working footage. The soldier found his hands shaking. They might not look like it, but they were still one of the hardened veterans in the field. They fought in skirmishes, guerrilla raids, and yet the enemy coming after them made them feel like they were helpless children being picked on by a rough adult.

He had seen his comrades tore through enemy forces and came out unharmed. He was sure that there was nothing about their aim, their tactics, and how they acted either. But in an exchange of gunfire, the enemy was able to always place a well-aimed shot that killed them.

“Shit, he’s massacring everyone,” his buddy said. There was utter fear in his voice as he saw the enemy continue to move with a fluid pace that displayed no hesitation.

“What do we do?” his buddy said. “He must be here because we fucked with Thomas and that Otto girl. Shit, how about we hand over Wendy Otto?”

“We let the Lt decide this,” the soldier said. “Let’s just calm down, maybe they’ll turn this fucker into a sponge.”

They looked at the RPG that was facing the doors to the antechamber and the LMG that were settled. The other teams had four groups, but this time there was an entire weapons squad composed of the squad leader, two gunners, two assistant gunners, two ammunition handlers that supported the team. The Lieutenant was with the squad designated marksman, and was ready to pop the head of the enemy.

“He’s closing in, Lieutenant!”

“Got it, open fire, weapons free!”

The enemy who was rushing in suddenly stopped, and agilely dodged the incoming gunfire. For the first time, the enemy took cover, and didn’t move. “Sir, you’ve pinned him down!”

“Sergeant!”

One of the heavy weapon specialists fired an RPG in the direction of the enemy. The soldier thought that it would at least force the enemy out, but he saw something unbelievable even by magiborne standards.

He caught the rocket-propelled grenade, handled it without making the cap detonate, and threw it before it self-destructed. He was so baffled by this, that he forgot to report, and because of this he saw the enemy throwing four stun grenades in the only entry point of the antechamber, and quickly slammed one of the walls with his shoulder as the stun grenades detonated.

“We have to help them!”

The soldier and his buddy rushed with their rifles.  Entering the antechamber, they saw a gory sight, their squad leader’s brain juices painted on the glass walls, and the rest of the team being manhandled, and bludgeoned by the LMG that he swung like a bat.

His buddy tried to shoot while he was not looking, but he simply swung the LMG around, blocked the bullets with the LMG like a shield, and took a crack shot on his body, and hit the soldier right in the plate carrier.

The ghost’s movement was inhumane and his fighting ability was focused on disabling his opponent by breaking their limbs, and using his superior strength to do it in mere seconds.

The rest of the team were beaten down half-dead on the ground. The squad leader was dead and all the gunners were shot dead by the enemy. The soldier laid on the ground with his arms and legs shaking.

The hostages were fine, and with the help of the enemy. He armed them after freeing them. They were demanding the man who he was or who sent him. The man didn’t answer, just staring them down with that skull-like headgear of his.

“Someone’s alive here!”

The soldier raised his arms. He didn’t want to die. That was it. And even if he acted right now, he didn’t think that a shot would land. The enemy moved next to him and had him tied up behind the back.

“We should kill him.”

“Not yet,” the enemy spoke for the first time. “City is burning, and this person could identify him. I'll be back, guard him and don’t rough his eyes out.”

The ghost left the antechamber. The soldier readied himself as he faced the spits, cursing, and the beating of the hostages. When the ghost returned, he was carrying a limbless body tied like a hog. The soldier saw who it was. “Colonel...you fucking butcher...what have yo done!” The soldier screamed.

The ghost ignored him. “We’ll have to move to the broadcasting station. You two,” he pointed at the two men. “Carry that soldier to the broadcasting area, the rest will help me in making sure that the broadcast stays on. The story will be this.”

He told them how they were able to successfully defend themselves, and free them. At the same time use their wits to destroy the leader. It was an absurd story, but for the people who would see the broadcast, it would be something they would remember.

The soldier wanted to escape from his ropes, but he couldn’t do it as one of the hostages presented the body of the Colonel while the broadcast was going. The proud leader of the antiwar movement was dead, cut apart, and was shown on live television brutalized and defeated.

“What now?” one of the hostages asked. The ghost who was watching from the back said. “Defend yourselves, the building is clear, and there is rescue coming for all of you soon. I  am here for Wendy Otto.”

The ghost squatted next to the soldier. “Is she here?”

“Go to hell.”

“She must be here then. What happened to the rest of the people with her?”

The soldier didn’t answer. The woman named Melia was shot by one of the marksmen, causing the vehicle they rode to crash. Thomas Strongarm gave a good fight, but the Colonel was easily able to subdue him.

“Then they are dead,” the ghost said, as if he had seen through his mind. “Wendy Otto is my target here, and if you have any problems with that, then come on and tell me.”

The hostages shuddered. Who in their minds would come and tell him that? After seeing the carnage, and the inhumane things he had done. No one could. The soldier knew he wasn’t going to be well after this ghost leaves him alone with a group of hostages.

“Defend yourselves until help comes,” the ghost retreated out of the broadcast room while leaving no sound. Though the hostages clearly hated it, there was simply no way they could disobey after seeing what the Ghost could do.

He was like a violent ghost that came and just disappeared.

And it wouldn’t be long until the soldier becomes a ghost after the hostages are done with him.
