Before their second kiss is over, the couple finds themselves interrupted by a WeChat call. Mu Mu’er sounds quite dissatisfied, and isn’t going to go get his phone at all. He’d rather lie in Bai Yao’s lap.

That said, there’s probably only one person who’d call Mu Mu’er on the phone. His phone calls are to be ignored at their peril.

Bai Yao sighs and supports himself up, using his long arm to grab the phone from the bedside cabinet.

Mu Mu’er has his arms wrapped around Bai Yao’s waist. He doesn’t let go even when Bai Yao is answering the phone, nor does he speak at all.

Bai Yao can only open the speaker mode and tell him to greet Mu Yi. Still, Mu Mu’er tries to pretend not to be home, burying his head into Bai Yao’s neck.

Finally, when the phone calls out “Mu’er,” he mumbles a “gege” back.

The voice probably came across as much more muffled than he usually speaks.

“Were you still asleep just now?” Mu Yi asks, “or were you busy with something?”

Mu Yi’s question raises alarms in Bai Yao’s mind. Oh no.

He thought about how to interrupt by answering immediately, but Mu Mu’er has already answered without thinking. His tone is definitely joyful, “kissing!”

Mu Yi “?!”
“What?! Who kissed you?!”

“Kisses with Yaoyao!” Mu Mu’er is now almost yelling into the phone, “Mu’er kissed Yaoyao!”

Then, perhaps feeling that was insufficient, he adds, “on the mouth!”

Mu Mu’er is so happy he could dance. He still wants to tell more, as they didn’t just have kisses, but also touches, and also lots of things very, very close together. It hurt a little, but he was happy. He wants to keep doing these with Yaoyao, every day.

He finally got the kisses he was hoping for, and they were a hundredfold better than he could ever imagine them to be. He desperately wants to share the joy with Mu Yi.

Bai Yao, though, can see how the little guy still isn’t finished. His hand at least manages to cover his mouth in time.

Not that it’s much useful now that the most important news broke through.

He actually wanted a day or two to figure out how to tell Mu Yi to entrust his younger brother to him, for life.
And there’s also a hidden part to him that doesn’t even want to tell him at all.
Worried he might refuse, that he might try to take Mu Mu’er away.

Mu Mu’er appears confused, blinking at Bai Yao with eyes clear as a pristine lake. He doesn’t struggle against the hand on his face, but merely waits patiently to see what Bai Yao is trying to do. He’s truly a treasure.

The phone is quiet still. Mu Yi is still waiting for an explanation.

Smiling, sighing, Bai Yao ruffles Mu Mu’er’s hair a little and pinches his face first, “Mu’er, go brush your teeth and wipe your face now. Yaoyao will come to you later.”

Mu Mu’er puffs his cheeks out a little, unhappy, but follows his request regardless. He leaves the bed.

When the bathroom door is closed, Bai Yao clears his throat for Mu Yi to speak.

“Together now?” His tone sounds unchanged. Largely devoid of emotion as always.

“Yes. Only confessed last night. Your younger brother wants to be my boyfriend,” Bai Yao can’t help but smile saying this. He curls up a leg to put his arm on it.

No response comes for now.

Then Bai Yao makes a promise with earnesty, “Mu Yi. I like him. I like him so much I can’t go an hour without seeing him, or I’ll be heartbroken missing him. I can’t control myself not to think about him all the time. I will take care of him as best as I can. He is not just a boyfriend, but he’s also my family now.”

He takes a breather, before continuing, “not just now, but in the future. I will only ever love him more than I did in every moment past, and never less.”

“Do you love him?” A simple 4-word question. Mu Yi’s tone is still largely inscrutable in emotion.

“I don’t know if it isn’t, but for his sake, I don’t mind woofing like a dog,” Bai Yao chuckles, “I even turned back into my animal form to be a big plushie for him. I’ll be glad to cook seafood fried rice for him for the rest of my life. Is this what you call love? I’ve no idea anymore.”

The little guy doesn’t like the smell of cigarettes, and Bai Yao has already decided to do whatever it takes to overcome the addiction. Snow leopards are highly territorial, but now, he found himself letting a little sea otter take over most of his own bed.

He doesn’t know if these fit the textbook definition of love, but he knows that, for Mu Mu’er, there is nothing he will not do. He can give him all that he has, and protect him with the rest of his life.

Is that love? It has to be.

There is chuckling coming from the phone now. Bai Yao finds himself quite nervous all of a sudden. He listens with knit brows; his posture is quite stylish still, but his fingertips are betray his anxiety, knocking incessantly on the surface of the cabinet.

Mu Yi’s laughs only stop after a long time. When he speaks up again, there isn’t the slightest hint of his earlier break in disposition, “I see. Nice to meet you, brother-in-law.”

‘Di-xi‘?

He must have misunderstood, huh.

Still, Bai Yao is able to lift a big boulder off his chest. He’s in huge relief.
