Whether it was at the Teng Yong Sect or in the border region, it had been a long day. Everyone had finally gone to sleep, hoping that the next day would be better. But as if Heaven had conspired against them, that hope turned out to be futile soon enough.

Shen Lei woke up in the middle of the night to his arm hurting. He furrowed his brows, wanting to turn around to hopefully not put as much pressure on it when he realized that it wasn’t the broken bone that was causing his pain.

Immediately, he was wide-awake and reached over with the other arm, grabbing Luo Lin by the shoulder and shaking him. "Little fairy. Little fairy!"

Luo Lin didn’t answer. In the faint light that shone in from outside, it didn’t seem like he was awake either. No, he seemed fast asleep or maybe unconscious and trapped in a nightmare. He had curled up, his fingertips digging into Shen Lei’s skin, showing that he wasn’t doing too well. His pale skin wasn’t helping the impression.

Shen Lei tried to shake him again, but the result was still the same. He froze for a moment, unsure what to do. He himself wasn’t hurt that badly but with one leg and one arm in this state, there also wasn’t much he could do. And right now, he wasn’t even sure what was going on, not to mention what could be done.

"Elder!" He yelled, not caring who else he would wake up. Surely, Elder Baili would be here in just a second and he might have an idea how to help Luo Lin.

Indeed, just a moment later, Elder Baili barged in, his hair sticking up in all directions and his eyes darting around as if he was expecting a bunch of demonic practitioners hiding in the corners.

"Something is wrong with Xiao Lin." Shen Lei had gone over to just rubbing his back, hoping that it would somehow calm him down and make him relax, but it hadn’t shown any effect so far.

Elder Baili finally also realized that his disciple had curled up unnaturally and rushed over, using his spiritual energy to light up the room and take a closer look.

He almost regretted it when he did. Luo Lin wasn’t doing well at all. His skin had gone pale and was covered by a fine sheen of cold sweat. His whole body shook, his muscles tensed to the point where he was afraid he might break something. He looked gravely sick.

"What happened?"

Shen Lei could only shake his head. "I have no idea. I woke up to him clinging to me." In fact, he wasn’t sure if Luo Lin hadn’t managed to break that bone even further but, right now, he couldn’t care less. Something was wrong with Luo Lin, that was much more important than his own injuries.

While Elder Baili tried to figure out what was going on, Zhi Guan, Mei Chao Bing, and Yun Bei Fen also arrived, trying to find out just what was going on over here that would cause such a ruckus.

Zhi Guan rushed over, taking a look at his third junior martial brother, and furrowed his brows. He didn’t know anything about these things so there wasn’t anything he could do personally. Thinking for a moment, he rushed past the other two and then tried to go and find somebody to help. Anyway, others were more knowledgeable when it came to these things. He just had to find the right people.

At the same time, Mei Chao Bing pulled Yun Bei Fen further into the room and also took a look, his brows furrowing tightly. "Could this be because of what martial sister Taishu said?"

Baili Chao froze at that. Right, Taishu Min had said that she wasn’t sure how a healthy person would react to the blood of the red priest. In fact, she had insinuated that maybe there would be a negative effect. Luo Lin hadn’t cared though and just gone ahead. This probably shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Shen Lei looked at the two of them, not understanding what was going on. While Luo Lin had given him a bit of a rundown on what had happened over the day, he had left out the details and he also hadn’t told him what Taishu Min had said. "What happened? What is going on? No, forget that! How can we help him?!"

Elder Baili looked at his disciple, his expression tangled. "I’m afraid … I’m not sure how to help." Anyway, he hadn’t known how to help Shen Lei either when he had been injured. And at that time, he had known the cause and effect of his injuries. Now, Luo Lin was suffering but he wasn’t even sure from what. How could he do anything?

He rubbed his forehead, not sure where to even begin. They could probably ask Taishu Min but she had already said that she didn’t know what the reaction would be. Even if she took a look at Luo Lin now, would it really change anything? He doubted it.

Shen Lei also realized that Elder Baili didn’t seem to have any idea what to do. He hugged Luo Lin, closing his eyes. He didn’t want to believe this. He had barely made it out of this whole ordeal with his life intact and they had even promised to marry each other. How could it now be Luo Lin who suffered like this? That shouldn’t be happening!

Yun Bei Fen looked from his senior martial brother up to Mei Chao Bing, hoping that he would be able to come up with something. In his eyes, Mei Chao Bing had always been omnipotent. He was sure that if there was one person who could help Luo Lin, it would be Mei Chao Bing.

Mei Chao Bing noticed his gaze but he didn’t know how to react. He knew what Yun Bei Fen was thinking. He had heard that kind of thought being voiced more than once. He had tried to tell him in the past that it wasn’t like that and he also couldn’t do everything and wasn’t invincible but Yun Bei Fen had never believed it. No, to him, he was still the one who would be able to solve any situation. But right now, he didn’t know what to do. He did not have a single clue how to save Luo Lin.
