Shen Lei held his head, not knowing what else to do. He had really put all his hope on whatever Taishu Min would be able to tell them. Now, it seemed that even though she knew something about what might have caused this, it couldn’t change anything.

For a moment, the whole room fell quiet, once again making it even more obvious how much pain Luo Lin was in.

Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows and then turned to Tan Xin, looking at her hopefully. "Junior martial sister Tan, hearing what martial sister Taishu said, do you have any idea what could be done?"

Tan Xin froze but then gave it a thought. "I would agree with what martial sister Taishu said about how using spiritual energy to try and solve this might possibly backfire. After all, I thought from the beginning that this was related to senior martial brother Luo’s spiritual energy. Using more could indeed aggravate the symptoms in such a case, what more if there is something firing the process on inside of him.

"But come to think of it, maybe the reverse would also be true. If the basic problem is that his spiritual energy has gotten out of tune, then maybe we could work with that. No matter the reason, the treatment should be similar. If we could quell the onslaught of his spiritual energy inside, then no matter what the red priest’s blood does, it shouldn’t hurt him as much."

Shen Lei looked up, not sure if he should actually put any hope in this. So far, they had only ever run into difficulties. He just couldn’t believe that things would be this easily solved.

Mei Chao Bing was afraid of the same but they didn’t have much of a choice. "Then if we wanted to try that, what would we need? Would we have everything here?"

Tan Xin furrowed her brows, unsure about that part. While she was learning some refinement, she also wasn’t that advanced in it. After all, she was still pretty young and alchemy was something that needed decades to learn well. The most she could do was prepare a simple potion. And in that case, the efficacy would be low. She wasn’t sure if it would do much in this situation.

She thought for a moment and finally shook her head. "I don’t know for sure. I will go and take a look at what is in the garden. If all the necessary herbs are there, I could make a potion. If any of you still have herbs or — even better — a potion to calm spiritual energy itself, I would also like to take a look at that when I come back."

Zhi Guan immediately stepped forward and motioned at the door. "I’ll accompany you to the garden. It’s not safe to go out alone."

Tan Xin nodded and the two of them rushed out while the others started to dig through their bags, trying to look for something that might be able to help.

Just like before, there wasn’t much that they had in terms of resources. And healing potions were actually much more common to carry around than the kind of potion Tan Xin had suggested.

When it came to cultivation, then it could happen every now and then that people would encounter a problem with their spiritual energy. Sometimes, because of an injury or because of a mental barrier, it would happen that the energy either dried up, leaving them a normal human if not treated in time, or bubbled up, straining against its confines and causing internal injuries. In the latter case, one could take a potion to calm the spiritual energy so the storm subsided.

That was pretty much what she was suggesting to try with Luo Lin as well. In his specific case, it wasn’t clear if it would help but it was the best they had. And there were enough similarities between the two situations to make this something worth exploring.

Yun Bei Fen had quite a few resources but he had no idea what most of it was so he just shoved it into Mei Chao Bing’s hands, letting him take a look.

Mei Chao Bing looked through it, but there wasn’t the right potion among them. Yun Bei Fen was of a low level so this kind of potion wasn’t really necessary for him. As for himself, his Master had probably thought that if he got into a situation where he couldn’t control his own spiritual energy and needed something like that, he would be better off dying so he had never gotten any of those potions either.

After a moment, both Shen Lei and Elder Baili straightened up, holding up a vial almost at the same time. They immediately sagged in relief, turning to the door to see if Tan Xin had already come back.

Mei Chao Bing also looked over his shoulder and then let go of Yun Bei Fen, getting to his feet. "I’ll go and get them back."

Elder Baili nodded and then turned to his third disciple. Seeing Luo Lin like this, he also felt pained. He hoped that this would be enough to help. Really, they could use some luck.

Mei Chao Bing didn’t need long to reach the garden and found Tan Xin looking through the herbs while Zhi Guan had raised a hand, shining a light on everything. "Elder Baili and senior martial brother Shen found two potions that could be used."

Tan Xin immediately jumped to her feet, not looking any further. "Let’s go back immediately! So far, I didn’t find any herbs and most of them aren’t even close to maturing anyway. It’s better to use a potion that was already pre-made."

Mei Chao Bing nodded and the three of them rushed back to the room.

Elder Baili and Shen Lei had Tan Xin look the potions over. Even though they knew what they had, they weren’t too sure which of them would be better for Luo Lin right now. Tan Xin probably had a better grasp on that.

She turned them in her hands for a moment, also opening the lid to take a short whiff before she handed Elder Baili’s potion back. "I would suggest using senior martial brother Shen’s potion. Yours is even stronger and I’m afraid that too much might be dangerous. We aren’t sure if we are actually on the right path so we shouldn’t be hasty. In fact, giving him half of the potion might be better."

The two of them nodded and then turned to Luo Lin.

Shen Lei furrowed his brows and then gently picked him up, trying to shake him again. "Xiao Lin, little fairy, you need to wake up. This potion can help you. Just open your eyes, please?"

Who knew if Luo Lin had actually heard him but, at the very least, his eyelids fluttered. He didn’t open his eyes but Tan Xin still handed the vial back to Shen Lei. "I think he is barely conscious but it might be enough to swallow this. Don’t give him too much. Just a few drops to try first. We’ll see how he reacts."

Shen Lei nodded, and then carefully started to pour the potion into Luo Lin’s mouth drop-by-drop, checking first whether he would actually swallow.

Thankfully, he did. It seemed that for once, they were actually in luck.
