Blue butterfly smiled when she mentioned this, clearly finding the situation quite humorous.

Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but wonder how Yan Jian Hong had felt back then. Finding out that you had an ability — even if you had suspected it before — should be terrifying. If she had gloated just like this back then, he wasn’t sure if his impression of her would’ve been that good.

But then, he shouldn’t judge. It had been a long time since then and it wasn’t like she didn’t also have experience with these things. Maybe it was his impression that was wrong.

Now that she had finally gotten to this part, blue butterfly didn’t pause any longer or lost herself in details. Instead, she got right on with the story. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure at that time why Tong Chen was gathering the four of us. Actually, I hadn’t even thought about it.

“I just followed him because, for the first time, there was somebody that I felt understood me. His experiences with his ability might be different but at the same time, we at least had some kind of common ground that I often felt was lacking with others. There were things normal people just couldn’t understand. For me who had always felt that she was being ignored and not important to others, it meant a lot.

“Seeing Yan Jian Hong, I figured that it would be exactly the same for him. But I soon realized that, in fact, that wasn’t the case. After healing that person from his sect, while everyone was shocked and had no idea what was actually going on, it was clear that they had a good relationship with both Yan Jian Hong and that guy, making sure that both sides were alright.

“And even though it turned out that Yan Jian Hong had managed to heal him without a cost on his side, that didn’t change anything at all. They didn’t care that he was different. No, even after that, it was clear that they were getting along very well.

“Yan Jian Hong … he was close to the people of the Zhen Yan Sect. And that … that was strange to me. For the longest time, I couldn’t understand this. I had figured that it was our abilities that made us outsiders. But as it turned out, that wasn’t the case. Even with this kind of ability, he could still be very well-adjusted in his sect. Instead, I was apparently just some kind of weirdo while Tong Chen was so focused on honing his sword skills that he had trouble making friends.”

At that point, Yun Bei Fen couldn’t help but interject. “He sounds a lot like my first senior martial brother.”

Blue butterfly turned to look at him, not knowing what to say about that. She had always felt that Tong Chen was a bit extreme with how he dedicated several hours a day just to swinging that sword of his, so she couldn’t very well imagine that anybody would even come close to being how Tong Chen had been at that time.

But then, she had never met any of the disciples of this generation from the Teng Yong Sect other than Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen, so she couldn’t just deny it. Who knew? Maybe in every generation, there would be one or two people like Tong Chen who just couldn’t imagine anything better than training all day.

Thinking until there, blue butterfly finally nodded. “Well, they are from the same sect. Maybe they’ll meet one day. I’m sure that’d be interesting to see.”

Mei Chao Bing as the only person among the three of them who had met both Zhi Guan and the black warrior had to say that, in fact, it really would be interesting. The black warrior was clearly somebody who had a very high skill level. From how he had gotten to know Yun Bei Fen’s first senior martial brother, he would indeed be ecstatic if he met somebody like this.

Zhi Guan would very gladly go up against the black warrior to hone his skills while fighting. And if blue butterfly’s description of the black warrior wasn’t just an exaggeration coming from the perspective of somebody who didn’t like to train, then he could imagine that the black warrior would be gratified to see that there were people in their generation of the Teng Yong Sect who were as diligent as he had been back in the day. As an elder, that’d be the kind of feeling you’d have, right?

He didn’t know whether that was true or not but he also knew that meeting one of the guardians was not easy. When it came to him, if not for the fact that he had been part of the black warrior’s vision, then he wouldn’t have met either him or blue butterfly. That just wasn’t how that worked.

Whether Zhi Guan would have this opportunity or not … it was hard to say. Not to mention that right now, they were still in the border region, taking part in a mission that might very well cost many of them their lives. They had gotten lucky when they managed to save senior martial brother Shen but there was no way to say if anyone would actually make it back alive when all of this was over.

He sighed when he thought of that but then his eyes widened. Actually … after everything that blue butterfly had just told him, there was one thing he understood even less: If abilities were something you were born with and something that needed a lot of time to cultivate to a high degree, then how come Yun Bei Fen’s third senior martial brother had suddenly acquired the ability of the red priest after making use of the vial with his blood to save Shen Lei? Just what was going on with that?
