When the two of them left blue butterfly’s dreamscape this time, they accurately landed in the courtyard of the building Elder Baili was currently occupying. Thus, they stumbled upon the sight of Yun Bei Fen and the red priest squatting on the ground together while the former threw small balls of spiritual energy into the dirt in front of him.

Mei Chao Bing felt startled but didn’t interrupt them. Instead, he looked at the other people in the courtyard. Zhi Guan and Yang Wu Huang still hadn’t returned and Shen Lei and Luo Lin had disappeared in between. White jade also couldn’t be seen anywhere. Elder Baili was standing to the side with a blank expression while the black warrior had closed his eyes and seemed to be meditating as he leaned against the wall.

Blue butterfly also glanced around but then focused on Yun Bei Fen and the red priest again. “What are you doing?”

Yan Jian Hong looked up and smiled brightly with even his eyes curving up. “I’m teaching a junior, ah.” To be honest, he was having fun doing this. He hadn’t really gotten to see any of the young disciples in the Zhen Yan Sect since he became a guardian. It really was a pity. He loved teaching others.

Before he was put into the position of guardian, he had always dreamed of being promoted to the status of an Elder and having a bunch of small disciples he could teach patiently. He had thought about it clearly, making up his mind on which skills should be taught earlier and which could wait, writing down his own experiences both in regard to the skills of the sect and also with his ability. Unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to try it even once.

Blue butterfly was naturally aware of his aspirations. Her gaze rested on Yun Bei Fen for a moment who was still throwing small balls of energy at the ground with wide eyes. Then, she looked back at Yan Jian Hong. Somehow, she doubted he had imagined having this type of disciple.

After a moment, blue butterfly shook her head. No matter what type of disciple Yun Bei Fen was, that wasn’t important right now! She turned to the black warrior instead, pulling Mei Chao Bing along. “There is something you need to know.”

Tong Chen nodded. “Did something happen at the chasm?”

Mei Chao Bing hesitated for a moment. “Not directly.”

As soon as he spoke up, Yun Bei Fen raised his head. Seeing his lover, the ball of spiritual energy he had just created diffused but he didn’t care. He jumped to his feet and rushed over, tackling Mei Chao Bing and wrapping his arms tightly around his waist. “You’re back!”

The corners of Mei Chao Bing’s lips couldn’t help but rise. He reached down and patted Yun Bei Fen’s hands. “I am. It seems like you were busy as well.”

Yun Bei Fen nodded and then squeezed around Mei Chao Bing, not wanting to stick to his back only. “I practiced a lot and made some progress!”

Mei Chao Bing nodded and then reached up to pat his head. “You did well.”

Behind them, Yan Jian Hong got to his feet and strolled over as well. “So, what about the chasm?” These two were cute to watch but he didn’t think they had a lot of time left.

From the plan these disciples had come up with, it was more than clear that the person Yun Bei Fen’s first senior martial brother was breaking out of the demonic practitioner’s prison couldn’t be trusted. In that case, the four of them would have to leave before the person could reach the border town. Who knew how long they still had until then?

Mei Chao Bing gave a hum, hugged Yun Bei Fen to his chest, and then explained in detail what he had experienced in the chasm.

Tong Chen’s expression was usually solemn but it seemed even graver at this moment. “Judging by that feeling, I’m afraid we might have been almost too late.”

The others all turned to him, not sure if they were catching his drift.

Tong Chen hesitated but then sighed. “The array the sects are grounding was supposed to imprison and slowly neutralize a person that was a big threat. There is a certain chance this person used something that wasn’t quite spiritual energy but something we’d perceive as twisted. Don’t forget that this person came from another continent and managed to destroy it completely.”

His brows furrowed while he explained. “If this guess is right, then that means the energy Mei Chao Bing perceived in the chasm came from that very person. This might be a sign that the array was indeed impacted by the creation of the chasm. Maybe not directly when it appeared but blue butterfly said the energy of the chasm seemed to have spread out. Maybe that weakened the array where it wasn’t strong enough to withstand an attack in the first place.”

Everyone’s expressions didn’t look good when the black warrior finished speaking. Even Yun Bei Fen who usually needed to longer figure things out realized that this didn’t seem to be good. He looked up at Mei Chao Bing, hoping that he would have a solution.

Mei Chao Bing looked back and gently rubbed his head, thinking that his little bunny should be afraid. He didn’t take the time to immediately reassure him though and instead turned to look at the black warrior again. “I was able to get rid of roughly half the vengeful spirits in the chasm and did so mostly on that side. If it really is the chasm’s energy that is causing this, then it shouldn’t be as dangerous any longer.”

Tong Chen nodded but his expression didn’t turn for the better. “That should be the case … unless it is already too late. In that case, the demonic sects allying will be the least of our worries.”
