When Zhi Guan finally made it to the border town, it was already late in the evening. He stopped at the outskirts and turned to Yang Wu Huang. “You go and get some rest first. I’ll inform the Elders.”

Considering the plan they had had and the fact that he had returned much later than he should have, he didn’t think it would be a good idea to take Yang Wu Huang to the courtyard where the others were. After all, some things couldn’t be hidden that easily. For example, his third junior martial brother’s literally glowing skin came to mind.

Yang Wu Huang furrowed his brows. He naturally wasn’t happy with just being shoved aside. Hadn’t this rescue mission been for him? Also, wouldn’t the Elders want to know what had happened in the last few days?

Not to mention that Zhi Guan was Yun Bei Fen’s first senior martial brother and Yun Bei Fen was Mei Chao Bing’s fiance. Could he really trust this guy to report honestly about seeing Mei Chao Bing’s senior martial brother Mu Qing? He didn’t think so.

He wanted to retort but looking at Zhi Guan’s expression and remembering how this guy had threatened him earlier in the day and once attacked him even with a big group of people around … he finally stayed quiet and simply nodded with an unhappy expression. “I will do that. I’ll tell the Elders my side later on.”

Zhi Guan nodded and waited for Yang Wu Huang to leave. Watching his departing back, he pursed his lips. This guy really couldn’t be trusted, could he? Well, at the very least, he had gotten rid of him for now.

He didn’t bother about him any longer and instead went back to the courtyard. At this time, not even his Master was waiting out there anymore, having given up hope to see Zhi Guan return in a somewhat timely manner.

A lot of time had gone by since Zhi Guan was supposed to return so he didn’t think this was strange. He simply used his spiritual sense to check the surroundings and then went to knock on his Master’s door. Everyone seemed to be gathered in the room.

Hearing the knock, the people inside fell quiet and only Elder Baili called out for the person to come in.

When Zhi Guan opened the door and stepped in, the first to react was Yun Bei Fen. His eyes widened and he jumped to his feet, actually abandoning Mei Chao Bing for once to fly straight into Zhi Guan’s arms. “First senior martial brother!”

He hadn’t understood how dangerous things were at first but when Mei Chao Bing explained just what kind of situation his first senior martial brother might have gotten himself into, he was really worried. He especially felt that it wasn’t worth it to endanger Zhi Guan for that Yang Wu Huang but he also understood that this was part of a larger plan so he only grumbled a bit.

Zhi Guan hugged Yun Bei Fen tightly, also happy to be back. Glancing at the others in the room, he nodded at his Master, Shen Lei, and Mei Chao Bing, while giving Luo Lin a similar smile as their little junior. It was good to see that they were all alright.

Elder Baili finally heaved a sigh of relief when he saw his oldest disciple again. “You’re finally back. Are you hurt?”

Zhi Guan shook his head, pulled the door shut behind him, and then pulled Yun Bei Fen back over to the table, handing him over to Mei Chao Bing again while he sat down. “I’m not. I was … lucky in a sense. In fact, I have brought back some new information.” He turned to Mei Chao Bing as he said so, his expression turning odd for a moment. Where was he even supposed to start with this?

Zhi Guan kept quiet for a moment and finally just recounted everything he had experienced while infiltrating the other side. He included his thoughts on what he had heard, especially stressing how he thought Mu Qing knew more and might even be willing to tell them more as long as they found the right approach.

When Zhi Guan finished talking, Elder Baili looked at Mei Chao Bing. “The Lin family … did Elder Feng ever mention them?”

Mei Chao Bing shook his head. To be honest, he felt surprised that he was supposedly related to that kind of old cultivation family. “I never heard of them. If not for this being something he prepared for a long time, I would even doubt it is true. I mean, I know my parents. Neither of them was a cultivator. From what I know, they are both still alive though. If there was enough time, we could probably go there and inquire but I doubt they’d know anything either.”

Baili Chao furrowed his brows. “Well, them not knowing and being related to the Lin family are two different things though. Since it has been such a long time and the necessary constitution has mostly disappeared, it’s likely they wouldn’t notice unless it happened to be strong in them.

“Remember how we thought all of this was related to an ability? And that your Master might have one himself or some kind of insight that allows him to check whether others have it? Well, I think this isn’t so far off. In fact, it makes a lot of sense. There are a few known constitutions that we know how to check for based on the body and veins.

“Elder Feng being able to find the children of the Lin family and take all of the descendants in to prepare isn’t that odd. The only difficulty he had should have been finding one whose constitution is strong enough to support whatever it is he wants them to do. It’s a pity your senior martial brother isn’t willing to talk.”

Mei Chao Bing’s brows had already tightly furrowed since listening to Zhi Guan. When Elder Baili spoke up until here, he finally shook his head. “I think … I already know what it is he wants to do. There is no need to ask Mu Qing.”
