Baili Chao gritted his teeth. Mei Chao Bing might have said ‘several’ but they were all aware that this was the most conservative guess he wanted to make. The truth was: Whoever had something to say in the demonic faction would likely end up seriously strengthened. This would start with each of the Sect Masters and important Elders and might not even end with the promising disciples of the younger generation.

Yes, depending on just how much energy this was, even the regular disciples might receive some of that power, putting the demonic faction not just a notch above the people on the righteous side. If the demonic faction then launched an all-out attack on their side … it could be imagined what kind of horrible future would ensue.

The Elder closed his eyes and tried to think it through. What Mei Chao Bing had said was the truth: If they took everything they knew together, this was likely the plan the demonic faction had come up with.

Even if some details were different, the result at the end shouldn’t differ much. After all, even if the demonic faction had found a different source of energy … they would still use it to strengthen themselves. Maybe it would take longer and the effect wouldn’t be as pronounced but the overall trend would still be the same.

And even if the energy the demonic faction was after was a different one, that might even be worse. After all, if Mei Chao Bing managed to take away the energy of that person and distribute it toward a large swath of people, then at least there wouldn’t be one terrible enemy to fight against. They might be unable to win but at least they wouldn’t have a tyrant nobody could win against. There would still be a chance of turning things around one day in the future.

If they had decided on a different source of energy though, strengthened themselves, and then eradicated the righteous sects … then nothing would be there to keep the array in place that was currently holding that person down. What then?

Somehow, he doubted that the demonic sects would care about the well-being of the common people. They certainly wouldn’t fight for them. And whether they would be strong enough even if they did was a different question altogether. After all, nobody had an accurate grasp on just how strong that person was.

Baili Chao rubbed his face when he thought of all this. He didn’t even want to think about this but what could he do? He lowered his hands with a sigh and looked at Mei Chao Bing and his disciples with a gloomy look. “Well, you heard it. I assume Mei Chao Bing is right. In that case …” His lips parted but he finally didn’t speak. To be honest, what now? He wasn’t sure. Whatever decision he made, he didn’t feel like he’d be able to prevent any of this from happening.

Mei Chao Bing smiled wryly. Actually, there were two ways to deal with this but he didn’t want to say that out loud in front of Yun Bei Fen. He rubbed his little bunny’s neck and gave him a reassuring smile when he turned around. “Well, these are all just my thoughts. It would be best if we could make sure of them before planning anything else. Senior martial brother Zhi said that he believed senior martial brother Mu might be willing to share more. Do you think I should try and go to see him?”

He was afraid of entering a trap but Mu Qing had been closer to him than Zhi Guan. There was a certain chance he could convince him. Especially since they both were in a similar situation.

Elder Baili furrowed his brows further. “I don’t think that is a good idea. While Mu Qing might be willing to disclose something, you going to the other side … I don’t think it would be wise in this situation.” In fact, thinking of how they had originally planned to send Mei Chao Bing over there to be a spy, he couldn’t help but shudder. If they had really done that, it would have been like creating their own death sentence.

Mei Chao Bing sighed. “I know what you mean but … can we really not do anything? We need to have certainty.”

Next to them, Zhi Guan cleared his throat. Everyone turned to look at him he motioned to Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen and then to Shen Lei and Luo Lin. “I don’t think a junior martial brother would be the one to convince him.”

Mei Chao Bing looked at the little bunny in his arm and his lips twitched. Well … this might not be wrong. “Then we should tell senior martial sister Xi what we’ve discovered. She originally volunteered to be a spy as well so she should be willing to do this.”

Zhi Guan inclined his head. “The problem is how to get her over there without anyone noticing. After all, junior martial brother Mu isn’t alone right now. There are several of the demonic faction’s elite disciples with him at the underground palace. It wouldn’t be wise to let her walk in just like that.”

He hesitated for a moment and then turned to his third junior martial brother. “The ability you copied from senior blue butterfly … is it able to carry a person over there?”

Luo Lin shook his head. “No, not from what I am currently able to do. The dreamscape I can open isn’t like that of the senior. It’s … barely big enough for two people.” And, as usual, the only other person he seemed able to pull in was Shen Lei. Taking another person along … he was afraid it was impossible.

Zhi Guan frowned. “That won’t work. Still, we need some way to get these two in contact. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s a chance to convince him.”

Everyone fell silent, trying to think of a countermeasure. Finally, Mei Chao Bing’s lips twitched and he pulled something out of his spatial bag. “Well … Could this work?”

Of course, what he held up was nothing else but a paper duck.
