Mei Chao Bing left the courtyard, grateful that Yun Bei Fen was understanding. He knew that this wasn’t how his little bunny had imagined their relationship but what could he do? They had to see if they could make it through this matter first.

Anyway, for now, what he needed was a person strong enough to give the effect of his constitution a try. He might have asked Zhi Guan or Shen Lei but they were both out. Among the others, while there were several strong disciples, he needed somebody that he could trust wouldn’t breathe a word about this. In that regard, there was really only one person left.

Mei Chao Bing soon reached the place slightly outside the town where the younger disciples were still trying to grow spiritual herbs to aid in the upcoming fight. They still thought it would be a drawn-out battle and had no idea what truly awaited them.

He almost wanted to sigh when he saw them look so optimistic but in the end, he simply walked up to the fence around the field where Song Mu was standing. “Can you leave here for a while?”

Song Mu turned around and raised his brows. “Did something happen?”

Mei Chao Bing simply looked at him. He definitely couldn’t speak about it here.

Song Mu smiled and shook his head. “Of course. I’ll tell one of the others and then grab somebody to help guard the younger disciple. I just need a moment.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded and stepped aside to wait. His gaze followed Song Mu as he organized things but his thoughts couldn’t help but travel to the past. The two of them had been really close. It really was a pity it had turned out like this but it couldn’t be changed. Things had already come to this. Still, he trusted Song Mu because he knew what kind of person he was.

Back then, if not for his sister being involved, he never would have distanced himself. He was loyal like that to his friends. So, of course, if he told him, Song Mu would never give this information to his Master. He would keep it a secret for him and that secret would die with the few of them one day. This was something he didn’t doubt for a moment.

Song Mu soon returned and raised his brows. “Alright, I’m done. Where to?”

Mei Chao Bing motioned to the small hill on the south side of the town where he and Shen Lei had tested the collar Yan Hong Min had made for Xiao Hui.

Song Mu nodded and the two of them headed over there, finally going all the way to the other side where they were out of sight. Song Mu raised his brows again and turned to look at Mei Chao Bing. “Did something really happen?”

Mei Chao Bing hesitated about how to say it but finally shook his head. “Not really. It’s just that we received some new information and have managed to roughly figure out the other side’s plan.”

Song Mu’s expression turned solemn. He wasn’t sure why Mei Chao Bing came to him personally instead of the Elders making a big announcement but it didn’t seem like a good thing. It was almost as if they were trying to stop panic from emerging by keeping it on the down low. Were things really that bad?

“Well, the gist of it is that I apparently have a special constitution I didn’t know about and my Master wants to use that to strengthen the other side.”

“That simple, huh?” Even Song Mu himself didn’t feel like he sounded convinced of those words.

Mei Chao Bing’s lips twitched. “The process was more complicated than that but … well, I guess it comes down to this, yes.”

“So there is no way for you to escape.” Song Mu sighed and shook his head. “Well, what can I do for you?” No matter what, he wouldn’t hesitate. As the one pulled into this through no fault of his own, Mei Chao Bing deserved whatever support he could get and he especially owed him that.

“I’ve been thinking … my Master can’t force my hand unless he has something to pressure me with. Right now, I don’t think there would be anything but Yun Bei Fen to do so. As a result, I need to ensure that he is as safe as possible. One possibility might be using my Master’s plan again him: If he can have me strengthen the demonic side, then I can do the same for Fen’er. I first need to figure out how to do it though but I don’t dare to experiment with Yun Bei Fen. His level is too low for that so …”

Song Mu nodded. “I don’t mind. Although I am surprised that you’re coming to me.” He also understood the implications of what Mei Chao Bing was saying and since Elder Baili’s disciple was involved, he would have thought Zhi Guan would be the safer bet. Or maybe Shen Lei since he was involved with another one of Elder Baili’s disciples.

Mei Chao Bing licked his lower lip. “Elder Baili sent senior martial brother Zhi and senior martial brother Shen out on a mission. I don’t think they’d return in time.”

The implication was: It’s not like I want to ask you for this but you’re the only one left at my disposal.

Song Mu nodded. It stung a bit but he knew that he deserved this. Anyway, the fact that Mei Chao Bing came to him and didn’t go to the Elders themselves who would have been a safe bet as well showed that he still trusted him somewhat. That was alright.

“Well, how do you want to try this? Just say the word and I’ll do what I can.” Anyway, even if their relationship wasn’t good right now, it didn’t have to stay like that forever. They could mend this. He still believed in that.
