Xi Ju Hai closed her eyes. There was not much consolation in knowing that their sect’s disciples had managed to escape for the most part just because of Feng Bai Xiao’s relationship with the sect. No, it only made her worry for the future.

This man wouldn’t give up any benefits, after all. So if he hadn’t managed to grab enough disciples yet to gain this advantage of knowing the future … he’d just do so later on, preferably while everyone was fighting a foe much stronger than them. What were they to do about that?

She rubbed her forehead, not sure what to do or say. She had wanted to counter whatever Feng Bai Xiao had come up with but currently, she couldn’t see a way. Protecting Yun Bei Fen likely wouldn’t work. And even if it did for a while, they couldn’t have eyes on him all the time. Sooner or later, they’d miss a moment and then, it would be too late.

What else could they do though? How to stop this plan from happening after the other side had Yun Bei Fen? She didn’t think that they could get Mei Chao Bing to ignore his lover’s plight. That man would do anything for Yun Bei Fen. That was precisely why his Master was planning in this way.

She tried to look at everything she knew for sure now but there only seemed to be two options: To somehow defeat Feng Bai Xiao before he could implement this plan or to find a way to defeat the person trapped beneath the great array. Neither of these seemed likely though.

Mu Qing watched her expression and could only smile wryly. “I think you’re seeing now what I’ve been telling you the whole time. There just is no way to deal with this. We’re … we’re completely at his mercy. He’s made sure of that.”

Xi Ju Hai shook her head. Indeed, she couldn’t see a way forward but … she refused to accept this. “It’s not just you and me. With everyone working together, we can solve this. I am sure of it. Didn’t we also manage to get all of this information in time? That has to mean something.”

Mu Qing didn’t respond. He didn’t want to rain on her parade. If possible, he indeed wanted her to win. It was just that he saw no way that could happen.

Xi Ju Hai kept quiet and finally, her expression changed a little. “Say … if that person is freed from beneath the great array, then how does he intend to deal with them? Sure, they’ll attack the righteous sects first since those were the ones who imprisoned them but what about after that? If the sects can’t defeat them or imprison them again, he’d have to deal with them.”

Mu Qing shook his head. “I don’t know about that which is precisely why I’m saying the demonic sects will likely not end up any better than the righteous sects. I feel like … my Master has seriously underestimated the threat this person will pose. He probably believes the righteous sects will be able to deal enough damage that he doesn’t need to worry about this but … I can’t see it.”

Xi Ju Hai narrowed her eyes. Was that really it? Could a person who had planned everything so meticulously really make such a big mistake? It didn’t seem likely. Could it be … “Do you think he has some kind of information we don’t? Like, a weak spot of that person he can use to defeat them easily after everyone else has failed?”

Mu Qing could only shrug. “I wouldn’t know. This kind of thing, he’d have only shared it with Qu Yijun, not me. If you’re asking for my best guess though … I’d say it’s likely that he has considered it. After all this time, he has to have something planned for the worst case.

“I don’t think it would be as easy as a weak point though. If such a thing existed, the cultivators from back then would have found out. They had direct experience with that person, after all, while my Master could only go by what was written down.”

Xi Ju Hai nodded. This wasn’t wrong either. But what then? Was he just trusting in everything coming together? That it would be enough after the array had zapped away some of that person’s strength and the righteous sects would exhaust some more and then the demonic sects, after leveling up their elites would be able to easily do the rest?

She thought back to Feng Bai Xiao as she had gotten to know him in the Teng Yong Sect back then and had to admit that this might be possible. He had always been a little arrogant, unwilling to put anyone in his eyes. It had driven the other Elders up the wall but there was nothing they could do.

Feng Bai Xiao had been talented and hard-working to boot. With two sects — one of the four great sects of the righteous side and the leading sect of the demonic side — pouring their resources into him, it would have been a wonder if he didn’t turn out as one of the best cultivators of his time. In fact, among those of his generation, there hadn’t been anyone able to defeat him and maybe even those older would have had to expend a lot of energy to do so.

Now, Feng Bai Xiao had gotten older, gained more experience, and likely used the opportunities given to him by the alliance of the demonic sects to strengthen himself further. Just what kind of level had he reached?

Based on the original trajectory of his cultivation, he should have long left the nascent soul stage behind and entered the demigod stage unless he encountered a bottleneck. Considering how ambitious his plan was, this was most likely indeed the case. So maybe … maybe he really thought he could take on that person as long as they were considerably weakened. In fact, maybe there was a chance of that if the energy gained from his plan catapulted him right to the end of the demigod stage, almost ready for ascension.
